Imitating Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow in the hallways at their school, Riverhead High School in Long Island, NY got twin brothers Tyler and Connor Carroll a one-day suspension according to the New York Post;
“This is not about religious discrimination,” said Riverhead School District Superintendent Nancy Carney. “It is about being sure kids are able to get to class on time and keeping the kids safe and orderly.”
Yeah, somehow I don’t think if Muslim students rolled out their prayer rugs and began praying in the halls that they would have warned or suspended. The principal said the kids created a fire hazard, because everyone knows that when a child is kneeling he can’t suddenly stand and then get away from a fire.

Yeah, it was a fire hazard alright…if some of these socialist union members every got that close to religion, they’d burst into flame like Michael Jackson in a Pepsi commercial.
Political correctness at it’s best again.
I would almost give anything to have the principal of my kid’s high school pull a stunt like that.
I would become his worst nightmare.
But then, in the 6 years my 2 kids (1 now graduated and in BYU, the other a senior) have been going there, they’ve shown a remarkable propensity towards common sense, so it’s highly unlikely they would do anything so unalterably moronic.
@Claymore…seriously? You brought socialism into this? News flash genius, socialism and religion have nothing to do with each other.
You know what else is a fire hazard? All of those damned desks in the classrooms. If it’s been proven that a kid kneeling down in an open space can’t get out of a building in case of a fire, then what chance does a child sitting in a chair behind a piece of fake granite have?
If you’re purposefully obstructing a passageway, it doesn’t matter what the cause is. Religion doesn’t give you a hall pass to act like an ass.
The students should have called themselves “Occupy Riverhead” and THEN blocked the halls. They would have received blanket A+ and embraced as Folk Heroes of the Faculty Lounge.
If this was an Army barracks and it was time for inspection and soldiers tried this, what would happen?
The school has rules. If the kids want to pray, they need to do it while walking. Making a public spectacle of yourself doesn’t earn you extra credit in heaven.
@6 and 8- They aren’t praying; it’s an internet meme.
If they crack down on this, then they sure as hell should crack down on kids chatting at their lockers, talking in doorways, or walking slowly. All violate the same ridiculous “fire hazard” standard they’ve applied to Tebowing.
I work at a school district. We had 3 broken windows today. I wish our precious children would Tebow instead.
Matthew 6:5-6 comes to mind.
I’m pretty sure that if the fire alarm went off, the “Tebowing” students would get up and leave the building. There was no fire escape emergency.
It’s a bunch of crap.
@10 – Thanks for the verse. Pertinent to the ‘prayer in school’ drama.
Maybe they should make sure that no one uses any hallway EXCEPT for emergency egress. Then no one would EVER have a hallway blocked. You know, selling something, distributing anything, chatting, playing grab ass, or any other activity which might slow down a drive by shooting or something.
One commenter in the NY Post wrote, “At least they weren’t ‘Sanduskying.'”
I would have kicked them out for supporting a Bronco. Tebowing is better than Tom Bradying, dropping the soap and tee hee while bending over… Pac Man Jonesing going to “scrip clubs”… Farving pretending to retire and sending pictures of your wang to people… I think you all see where this is going.
I would have to point out that as long as there are tests there will be prayer in schools.
Why are Liberals so uncomfortable with Christians having a strong faith. It’s all well and good for a wican to try to raise the dead (which is what they do on Halloween), but GOD FORBID anyone should actually beleive in Jesus.
Somehow a scene of a birth of a child is offensive, but putting a banner out that says that that people who believe that Jesus was the Christ, the anointed of God (we have learned from Josephus the Jewish historian that he was a real person so you can’t say he was made up) that those people believe a myth and are responsible for all the evil in the world. How is a bunch of students “tebowing” anyway as offensive as telling someone their faith is just a myth, and then refuse to allow them to display their religious beliefs.
@16 – “I would have to point out that as long as there are tests there will be prayer in schools.”
Exactly, which is why I don’t understand the religious right and their push for recognized prayer time in school.
Tebowing doesn’t offend me in anyway religiously, it’s a stupid act of obstruction.
By the way what ever happened to kids just getting led around by their ear when they do something stupid like block a hallway? Why does shit have to always have to be a suspension?
What happens to students who bend over to tie their $200 Air Jordans?
And, checking the picture, it’s horrible, all those students who couldn’t get around the four kneeling. Bodies piled up everywhere.
Why couldn’t a teacher just tell them to stand up and move along? Wait, got it, they obstructed the teachers from moving smartly to the teacher’s lounge for another cup of coffee and a Danish.
at my high school, the halls were always packed.. There literally was nowhere to move except to class. No room to fuck off like this and my high school wasn’t small. This whole thing is retarded. Kids deserve a kick in the ass.
#16 “wican to try and raise the dead (which is what they do on Halloween).” I did not know you were such an authority on Pagan religious practices? I am Wiccan. I have never tried to raise the dead on Halloween (Wiccans refer to it as Samhain, pronounced sow-wheen, which is actually the ancient Celtic New Year celebration). None of my fellow pagans have ever tried to raise the dead. I think you may have Wiccans confused with Voodoo followers. Anyway, it is a shame that liberals make such terrible attacks against Christians, but give free reign to Muslims.
@20: these kids deserve a kick in the ass for taking a knee? I’d hate to think what you think deserves reward.
@21: well the Salem coven did, I was invited to join them for a celebration. I respectfully declined. Not that I believe that they could, but somethings are better not messed with.
>Matthew 6:5-6 comes to mind.
This verse is about as misinterpreted and out-of-context as Luke 6:37.. Jesus prayed in public. He taught people to pray. He didn’t want people to pray for attention. He wanted them to mean it. There are many verses after Matthew 6:5-6 that show that Christ himself prayed in public.
I agree with you Doc, some things are better left alone. Once someone has passed onward, they should be left in peace. Communing with the spirit worlds is one thing, but to try and bring them back against their will violates the Wiccan Rede: An ere it harm None, do what Thou will. I have never taken part in something like that, and truthfully have not heard of any coven trying to do that. We certainly welcome the spirits to partake in celebration, but would not willfully force them to cross back to the mortal world. One thing I truly abhor is religious discrimination.
@24: Discrimination has become a word like Tolerance, and Justice, and other such things. it has become Orwellian in use, in that it is ironic (dictionary usage, using a word to mean the exact opposite) People who want to go on about religious freedom are sadly the first to curtail practice of religion.
As for Salem Mass. . . I don’t think they were what one would associate with Wicca. They seemed to revel in being spooky. If you complained that they were a little over the top, they would point to the Salem Witch trials as a way of beating you over the head. Really not a good way to be.
God Fearing vs Godless
melle1228 (23): Jesus prayed in public. He taught people to pray. He didn’t want people to pray for attention.
Frank: BING! BING! BING! BING! BING!
Yup, that’s what I’m saying.
Who knows? Maybe these guys weren’t “praying for attention.” But it don’t look that way to me.
Damn it! Now I hear the buzzing in this thread too.
2-17,
Wait, so you really want to come across as a petulant little kid?
Fascinating.
2-17 AirCav
Well, AC, we may have to turn down the hearing aids.
OWB,
I bet those are mental handicap radios. The HG’s office only told you they were “hearing aids.”
In which case, yes, you should turn ’em down.
