2 Americans fight off kidnapping attempt in Yemen

The New York Times reports that a CIA officer and a lieutenant colonel went to get a haircut in Yemen last month but ended the day by killing two armed terrorists who attempted to kidnap them;

A United States Special Operations commando and a Central Intelligence Agency officer in Yemen shot and killed two armed Yemeni civilians who tried to kidnap them while the Americans were in a barbershop in the country’s capital two weeks ago, American officials said on Friday.

The two Americans, attached to the United States Embassy, were whisked out of the volatile Middle East nation within a few days of the shooting, with the blessing of the Yemeni government, American officials said.

The kidnapping attempt was apparently in Sanaa and the US consulate there was closed earlier this week because of violence there, says Fox News;

Earlier this week, the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa closed temporarily because of attacks on Westerners. A day before Tuesday’s closure, gunmen opened fire on three French security guards working with the European Union mission in the Yemeni capital, killing one and wounding another.

    THAT is a feel good story! RIP for the French troop that was KIA, though.

    Good shooting guys! That was a close shave! 😀

    Not exactly a good choice of targets on the part of the terrorists. (smile)

      As Massad Ayoob would say, they had poor target selection skills.

      Operative word here is “had.”

    Shave and a haircut, two dead bad guys. When they go back for their next haircut, will the barber ask them “Same as last time!”

      Hack Stone…LMAO Yep, “little off the top, high and tight and don’t mind the pistol under the sheet. If you hear a click, hit the deck…plus there’s a big tip in it for ya if you give us a heads up this time”. 😀

    Two hair cuts in Yemen – 30 dinars.

    Cost of two 9mm bullets – 57 cents.

    Seeing the brains of two jihadists splattered on the barbershop walls – Priceless.

    More leaks from Obummer to score political points.

    I just love it when the good guys outsmart and out shoot the bad guys. Makes my day a lot brighter!

    1. The article says that they used a revolver to kill the bad guys. See? You don’t need that many bullets.

      1. Sparks

        Jonn, there ya go. Who needs a pistol when you’ve had enough range time and know your weapon!

        Hoping against hope that it was a Colt Single Action Army. Hey, I still have mine [elephant ivory grips; 3rd Gen.; .357 mag]

        Hooyah!

    I’m reminded that in VN, Chiêu Hồi’s would barber at the 82nd base camp in Phu Bai. The next in line trooper would stand near by locked and loaded. Since the (ex, maybe)-VC guy was using a razor blade on a stick, I think he would always have the drop.

    I like how the New York Slimes refers to the dead terrorists as “armed civilians”.

    Umm, yeah, sure, okay.

      …And they wonder why their circulation numbers and ratings continue to plummet!

      Armed civilians? where have I seen that term before? Is that anything like “Armed Citizens”?

  12. LebbenB

    That’s certainly great news. Go in for a haircut and the bad guys are the ones getting clipped.

    You know what would have sucked? If one or both of the men had only half a haircut when the attempted kidnapping occurred. Arnold Schwartzwhatever would have sat back down and had the barber finish the job.
