Thanks to Hondo and Ex-PH2 for paying tribute to the tobacco gods this holiday season. I’ll see to it that they are sacrificed in the appropriate manner, as soon as the weather improves a few degrees above freezing in the coming year.

        Well played…..

        1. Lurker Curt

Thank you, sir. My F5 is hammered shit now…

        We all are.
        Nice shot.

        Congrats on your firstness!

The last First of 2017, well done, Lurker!

    3. Ex-PH2

Well done, Lurker Curt! Give yourself an extra shot of whatever your favorite adult beverage may be!

      1. Lurker Curt

Thanks, everybody! I would also like to thank my producer, director, and the Academy! Oh, and the man upstairs!

      2. Lars Taylor’s Narcissism

If that were me, that shot would be butt. But, I could not try for first this time around.

You see, I was going around sniffing butts. I did not realize that the last butt I sniffed belonged to a woman who was right next to her husband.

What happened? This is what happened.

All I want for my next drill pay are my two front teeth… My two front teeth… See my two front teeth… Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth, I would not sound funny when I give people my Berkely wisdom!

        1. Lurker Curt

My drink of choice is gin. A lot of folks tell me that gin tastes like ass, so…

          1. Lars Taylor’s Narcissism

I tried to wash the taste of ass out of my mouth with gin one time. No matter how many servings I took, the taste of ass prevailed.

As an ass connoisseur, and also having drank gin, gin tastes a lot better than ass.

  7. The Other Whitey

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I had a little stove malfunction on Christmas morning that cost me 2nd degree burns to both hands, but on the upside it gets me out of work for another week or two.

    1. 26Limabeans

Oh man that’s going take a while. Ouch.

      1. The Other Whitey

Yeah, the doc says it will probably scar, and they’re going to wait and see if the scarring affects range of motion. Hopefully not.

    2. A Proud Infidel®™

That hurts just thinking about it!

      1. The Other Whitey

Try doing it! Actually, don’t. It hurts like a motherfucker for the first couple days, then it itches even worse. Given the choice between the two, I think I prefer the pain.

    3. Graybeard

TOW: Don’t do that. It tends to hurt.

Hope you heal quickly and completely.

      1. The Other Whitey

Yeah, it sure did! Doc says it’ll scar, but I could give a shit about scars as long as my hands still work.

        1. RGR 4-78

Was it the backs of your hands, your palms, or both?

          Hope you heal up fine.

    4. OWB

When we told you to have a great Christmas, we did not intend for you to be checking out holiday ER operations.

      Be well.

Do they still make Silvadine? (Check spelling – it’s pronounced silvadeen.) It used to be the best thing available for what you did to yourself.

Yes, but we are not sure just what it is that you made.

    2. A Proud Infidel®™

      Kind of.

    3. Graybeard

Define “did”, “I”, “make”, and “it”, please.

Right after you find the proper definition of “is”, of course.

  16. Since I’m never first, I’ll settle for the 25’Th or so for this year, I at least made the top ten this year so I am proud of that !!!
And best wishes to all of you for a safe and happy New Year’s Celebration !!!

  17. OWB

Been busy playing with a Christmas gift. Not gonna tell you what it is or what I did with it because you just would not believe it. But, it involved hydraulics, automotive wiring, and fuses; hex bits and tree limbs.

    So there.

As further proof there really is a Santa Claus, Drexel University announced Thursday that George Ciccariello-Maher, a political science professor, was leaving the faculty to “pursue other opportunities.” Ciccariello-Maher, a self-professed “actual communist,” has sparked outrage on social media including expressing support for white genocide, and an incident where he tweeted he wanted to throw up because an airline passenger offered his seat to a soldier. Here’s the link with the Drexel announcement:

    http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/28/us/drexel-university-professor-resigns/index.html

Here’s a post from last Spring when he was on the TAH radar:

Amen. And I ain’t even religious. That guy is just an asshole.

    2. A Proud Infidel®™

He can go back to his job as Towel Boy at Brucie’s Bathhouse (Entrance in Rear) for all I care, good riddance!

    3. rgr769

He is likely to write a book or get a job on the staff of Fauxahontas or the Bernout. Or, he could end up on the set of PMSNBC as a new co-host for one of their “fellow travelers.” He could be a co-host for the Madcow.

    4. A Proud Infidel®™

      From the article:

“”This is not a decision I take lightly; however, after nearly a year of harassment by right-wing, white supremacist media outlets and Internet mobs, after death threats and threats of violence directed against me and my family, my situation has become unsustainable,” Ciccariello-Maher wrote on his Facebook account. ”

Typical booger-eating thumbsucking bedwetting Mama’s Boy footsie-pajama wearing liberal, everybody and everything dissenting with his viewpoint and dogma is “racist” and/or “white supremacist”.

    5. A Proud Infidel®™

George Ciccariello-Maher, yet another liberal with a big enough case of Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder (TARD) that he lets it run his life thus making him a Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder Operative (TARDO).

  20. Ex-PH2

You are very welcome, Jonn, and I hope you enjoy the story that went with those fine examples of success in a free market economy!

I was out running errands, getting meat for boeuf bourguignon (beef burgundy) for New Year’s Eve. Did I miss anything?

Not doing any resolutions, never have. It seems to work better to have a list of things to get done that can be crossed off as they go. May goof off for a few days, but the floors are clean, the birds are fed and the pantry is stocked.

    1. Wilted Willy

      Happy New Year Ex!

Lamont Cranston bids you a fond farewell.

      1. sj

Where you been Supply Sgt? You missed the phony S4 poser. I had high hopes for your commentary.

        1. Claw

I’ve been here, mostly lurking for the past few days.

I did see the post on the phony S-4 poser Ralphie Ortiz and to be truthful, he didn’t even make the needle on my Give-A-Fuck meter twitch.

Especially after I read in his bio that as a Brigade S-4 NCOIC, he “managed” property book assets. If he actually did that, then that means the Army has stepped back at least 40 years, cause that hasn’t been done since the mid 1970’s after Vietnam. At most, all he would have been able to do was “monitor” the property books.

That’s why Property Book Teams (with a 761A Warrant Officer Team Chief) are established at a Material Management Center where they actually can adjust property gains and losses. The Brigades and Battalions don’t “own” the property. Ownership is strictly between the PBT Chief and the Company Commanders of the units that Team services.

But since it was shown that he had never served, I just ignored him.

But Thanks for asking. As of now, we are not yet asshole deep in snow. The snow cover isn’t even up to Scooby’s belly yet. Actually, pretty warm out here right now with daytime temps in the mid 30’s and no below zero nights yet. Calm before the storm and all that.

          1. Sj

Good info. Didn’t know the new way of doing things. I signed for a Signal BN in 64. I was replaced by a W2 when i pcs’d. I would have been hosed had it not been for SFC Todd, the S4 NCOIC and heavy drop loads streamering in for unknown reasons.

            1. Claw

Well, my description of how the Property Book Teams/Company Commanders work together was the way things were 26 years ago before I retired. It may be different today with all these new BCT set-ups, but I doubt it.

Yep, it’s amazing how those planes ever made it off the ground carrying all that weight./smile Even better when they caught fire and burned up in the middle of Camp Swampy/NTC or Pinon Canyon somewhere.

Same deal as when we did in-country REFORGERS while in Germany. Always came back to home station fatter from exercise POMCUS stock items than when we left.

RIP, Benton Harbor – AKA Chickenman.

And RIP to you, Mr. Orkin. Thanks.

Happy New Year to the TAH gang! I am hoping for a 2018 where we get the Final Chapter in the saga of the Dynamic Duo in Orange of he DRG.

    1. Dallas Wittgenfeld’s Bunghole

Final chapter sounds so final…sob. I’m having too much fun! Hope they throw the book at us…maybe even death row where I can work the really savage cranks. In the meantime, can TAH spot me a gallon of two cycle mixture for my Anal Intruder 3? And make it at least 89 Octane…I love a smooth firing reaming…thanks!

Well, dang it all. After such pleasant morning and early afternoon festivities around here, just got word that a dear friend left this world early this morning. A great loss to all who knew him.

    RIP, Pete.

Sorry to hear about your loss, OWB.

    2. Ex-PH2

Have two funerals this weekend myself.
Sad way to close out a year.

  29. Dick Weed

    75rd!

And a big New Years 2018 shout out to my dear friend DAB …. the leader of DRG.

Wishing DAB all the success in whatever he is trying to prove in the new year.

  30. Claw

Anybody heard from Ole Poe lately? Haven’t seen any comments or posts from him in a few weeks.

Time to wax nostalgic. Henceforth, anyone who served back when there was no such thing as a mid-month payday can now officially call themselves an Old Geezer.

“So let it be written, so let it be done.”

    1. Poe is fighting the good fight…we’re hoping for some good news soon. I’m not sure how much he wants me to say, so let that suffice for now. He’d probably appreciate some prayers.

      1. Sj

Dang. Sorry to hear that a fellow Old Geezer is having a challenge. Will lite a candle at Mass.

      2. Claw

        Roger. Prayers Up!

        Our prayers go out
        To him and his family

      6. ifcsguy

Been wondering and was intending to post a query about him this evening then saw this. To Poe, you have my prayers fella.

      7. A Proud Infidel®™

        Roger that, prayers out.

  31. My holiday weekend was pretty damned nice. I slung some lead with some active duty Rangers on Saturday, and caught up on some of the Middle East goings on. On Sunday, I went 100 miles West to Foley Alabama for a Christmas Eve dinner, and good conversation with friends. On Christmas Day I was the guest of an Army Ranger Captain and his wife. Good conversation as he deep fried 2 turkeys, and then a great dinner. Back home to the farm, and the livestock, I am just doing the minimum this week and into the New Years holiday. Knowing that the DRG and Kyle Barwan didn’t eat as well as all of us, makes what we had be just a little tastier. I fail to understand why some people will go to such effort to get themselves locked up. I savor my freedom, and consider it to be my most valuable possession. May they rot in there.

A very Happy New Year to all the good people here.

    AND

A very miserable 2018 to the assholes who know they deserve all the hell we give to them…just to name a few.

    Daniel Bernath
    Dallas Wittenfield
Dennis Chevalier (By the way, asshole, still waiting for you to come by on your way to getting your jelly in Jefferson)
    Kyle Barwan
    “Whatever it’s name is” Manning
    Frank Visconi
    William Derek Church
    and
Nancy Pelosi (can’t stand that bitch)

  36. 11B-Mailclerk

Anyone following the protests in Iran? People are chanting “death to Khomeini” and “Bring back the Shah” (presumably his son)

Looks like folks are getting a bit tired of the Mad Mullahs blowing the nation’s money on foreign adventures and terrorism. They know zer0 forked over billions, and wonder where it all went.

I eagerly await developments. Also wondering how CNN and Carter will jihad-splain this.

    1. 26Limabeans

I remember when Tehran was a rockin city with Americanized women sporting puppy sweaters and mini skirts. I’ll bet they have had enough just as we have had enough and now have Trump. They can taste freedom and want it bad. Bad enough to die for!

  37. Claw

Thought I’d slip in here with comment #100 and let those who are interested know that the latest reports on the UP4014 restoration are all positive and things are progressing nicely.

The Steam Shop there in Cheyenne recently completed installation of an overhead crane (haven’t had one since 1979) to help handle the “big job” that 4014 is.

    That is all for now.

    Toot-Toot!! Steam Forever.

    1. ifcsguy

Thanks for that. Usually YouTube perusals every evening keeps me up to date on that effort but hearing of the crane installation is news to me. Seeing 4014 pulling an honest load down UP’s main line again will be a true thing of beauty.

    2. A Proud Infidel®™

Just to see a Big Boy under steam again, let alone one assaulting the grade on Sherman Hill! I hope they soon restore Challenger 3985 to service after they’re done with Big Boy 4014 and I hope they can get back to restoring C&O 2-6-6-2 #1309, then we’ll have live articulated Steam locomotives on both sides of the Mississippi River!

    3. Claw

Just to put a little perspective on what “big job” means:

From what little I know, the UP4014 weighs 772,000 pounds empty.

Projected date for completion of restoration effort is May 2019.

  38. OWB

So, what are the plans for bringing in the New Year?

Here, the tradition of snacking all day continues. No actual meal service. This practice evolved from years ago open house parties for folks to drop in on their way to or from somewhere else. Lots of munchies. (Can’t get close enough to that hord’ouver word for spellcheck to find it!) Don’t have company these days, but still do the small plates kind of thing. All day, with them getting a tad more fancy as the day progresses, with stemware and sparkling something at midnight.
