Hatching Out
An emu chick hatches at the Wild Rose Emu Ranch in Hamilton, Montana. Your Shot photographer Pam Voth waited for hours, watching the chick work on coming out of its shell. “What surprised me was the delicate, tiny little whistling call it made as it was hatching,” she remembers. “In the wild, this chick’s whistle would have been answered by the male on the nest.”

Okay, here’s your weekend menu.
Bacon mac & cheese with ham.
Just make regular mac & cheese, mulch up some ham in that cuisinart thingy, mix part of it with the cheese sauce and the other part with the cooked pasta. Crown it with cut-up bacon, then bake it at the usual time and temperature.
Biscuits: iffen yern don’t rise none, get them there store-bought biscuits in a can, ’cause they’re all flakey and the butter melts just as good.
Green beans on the side, sauteed w/bacon and chopped or minced garlic
Cut-up veggies
Dessert: anything chocolate, or gooey, or requiring about a full can of whipped cream.
And try hot cider with a slice of lemon. The lemon flavor offsets the cloying sweetness of the cider.

Almost forgot: the bacon should be partially cooked before it’s added to the mac & cheese.
For the world’s best creamy mac and cheese you have to use sour cream instead of milk. Also, only the finest shredded cheddar cheese on Planet Earth from Weyauwega Star Dairy.
They sell it online and only ship in the winter unless you have a refrigerated semi trailer…

This is the crazy week of assorted Christmas celebrations. So far, have enjoyed three buffets with three different groups, a lovely sit down lunch at a country club, one luncheon blown off due to being too sick to attend, with a full blown Christmas dinner tonight with a retiree group, lunch tomorrow at the VFW (the auxiliary does this one to thank us for all we do), and another trip to the buffet with another club tomorrow evening. And my doc is concerned if I am getting out often enough??? Yeah, right.
Sorry, PH. Your menu sounds great, but you may give my portion to someone else this week. Maybe next week as well. I may never be able to eat again!

It is a Captan’s Mast held in front of the entire crew. I have seen it done. Today, appropriate and very effective for minor violations of UCMJ.
In Naval tradition, all discipline hearings and procedures were held under or at the main mast where the entire crew would assemble and witness.
A meritorious mast is the same, however rather than an award of punishment, often a reward would be delivered for the outstanding performance.
Again, today an all hands mast for more serious violations, not appropriate.
