Not sure what the Packers were thinking here.

flag?

During Sunday’s pregame festivities, the Green Bay Packers trotted out this, ah, banner, of some sort, consisting of three stripes and by my count 26 stars in a blue field. With this crowd I doubt I need to go into what the American flag symbolizes, and this isn’t it. The only flag I can find that’s close, sans stars, is the flag of the Netherlands.

netherlands

I for one haven’t been following the NFL of late, and for all I know the Netherlands may very well have an NFL team, although why they would want one is beyond me.

A lot of fans were confused, too, by their tweets:

“Who comes up with ideas like this? Number of stars (States in Union) and number of stripes (colonies that won our independence) defines us. That thing on the field is not our nation’s banner.
1:41 PM – Sep 30, 2018 ”

“in honor of the Euros winning the Ryder Cup?

“Very unamerican flag at packers game no real surprise”

To mention a few.

Wonder if Kaepernick would take a knee for this?

What’s going on in the NFL?

I really don’t understand this behavior. It is not rational. You always try to win customers, not lose them.

    1. Jus Bill

      The NFL became Woke AF.

New Herb Tarlek marketing strategy: Alienate as many customers as you can while grabbing negative headlines.

      1. Hack Stone

As God is my witness, I thought that Daniel Bernath could fly.

Tip of the hat to “The Big Guy”.

      2. With backup from Mr Hurd…..

      3. jonp

At least they could have had Loni doing something. That turkey episode is one of the funniest things ever. “OMG, They can’t fly”!

  2. Ex-PH2

Gee, I never was a fan of the Packers, anyway, and this just gives me something I can rub my sister’s nose in.

  3. 26Limabeans

    “stylized version”

    It’s a “living” flag.

  4. 2/17 Air Cav

    26 stars?

Wisconsin was #30 in the statehood chronology so that ain’t it.

There are 32 NFL teams in that ain’t it.

Maybe it’s the # of recidivist NFL kneelers or the number of felons that were Packers over the past 10 years.

  5. 11B-Mailclerk

Another try at “The Stars and Bars”?

The last go-round didn’t go very well.

    1. 5th/77thFA

For either side. Revised #s suggest up to a million. US was still 36 Stars, CS was a max of 13. Even us Americans that were born/live in the South are very loyal and patriotic, swearing to defend the Constitution and pledging allegiance to the 50 Starred/13 Striped United States Flag. No idea what dahell or dephuque this is. From the what it’s worth dprt, the Wisconsin Boys was fighting with the Michigan Boys for the Honor of claiming credit for capturing Jeff Davis 10 May ’65, Irwinville GA. “Friendly fire” took out several of each. One rumor has it they were actually fighting over the CS Treasury; The Michigan Colonel reportedly ended up with “The Lost Confederate Gold.”

  6. Tallywhagger

Taking the highroad, I’m guessing they are showing red, white and blue with a field of stars.

Heaven forbid that they have anything else in mind.

    1. Mason

Since teams never seem to have trouble finding giant flags to have people in uniform wave, I don’t think this is it.

I will say, playing devil’s advocate, that it was probably a bonehead move by someone who has never worn that flag on a uniform.

Bottom line is this does nothing to win back support amongst the patriots who have turned their backs on the NFL.

      1. Tallywhagger

Well, amen that they don’t give a flyin’fuck about honor or duty and what it has taken to keep this country above the rest of the world.

At a guess, the NFL and AFL would be devoid of value were it not for MSM.

Cable has compelled subscribers to underwrite unwanted “programming” for years and that has to be the only way that programming continues.

Were it the case the cable/satellite subscribers could have legitimate freedom of choice, a lot of what is on the menu would no longer appear on the menu as a result of their own merit.

  7. 2/17 Air Cav

Old Glory is too divisive for the NFL so this is their attempt at compromise. Either that or they got a good deal on a mis-sewn flag from a flag maker in Chiner.

    1. Hack Stone

That sure looks like the flag that used to fly over the former corporate world headquarters of a proud but humble woman owned business formerly located on Wilson Drive.

  8. It was a ground reference for the KC135R that flew over so it wouldn’t accidentally make a fuel dump on the field.(sarc)

    1. MSG Eric

What they don’t know is, there was no KC135 flying that day because it’s Sunday and “crew rest!”

      1. AW1Ed

‘Sall good, MSG. Any day can be “crew rest,” not just Sunday. We get per diem, too, ’cause the galley usually isn’t open when we’re on the deck.
        *grin*

        1. Mick

Crew rest in air conditioned billeting ashore + per diem + flight pay + a clean flight suit with plenty of pockets to hold all of that extra cash.

          “P-3 Navy”

          I hate you.

          1. AW1Ed

You don’t think we spent that money on chow, do you?
            *grin*

  9. Inbred Redneck

Whatever it’s supposed to be, they can go hide it somewhere.

  10. Skippy

    FUCK THE NFL
no one I know of even bothers with them anymore

    1. LIright47

AMEN! Ever since the first one took a knee, I haven’t watched one game.

      Screw ’em.

      1. Tallywhagger

        Amen.

      2. UpNorth

        Same here, LI Right..

  11. Mr. Pete

WTF? I don’t get it anymore. I really don’t. In more important news I had a great day at the range today.

  12. Ctthulhu

Looks like if it was unfurled all the way it would have at least 29 stars because the far end is definitely definitely still folded.

I suspect if it had been open length wise across the entire field it may have been a banner of 50 stars and for whatever reason they did not get enough volunteers or the volunteers screwed up and unfurled it the wrong direction.

    1. SFC D

You and that banner have much in common. You’re both pointless and irrelevant to most of the population. Thanks for dropping by.

    2. 11B-Mailclerk

All those folks at the other end of the field also screwed up? Like no one rehearsed it?

      Seriously?

You apply the same odd thinking process to politics. “No, it wasn’t a bad idea. They just did it wrong.”

      1. Jus Bill

They showed up. That’s what they did wrong.

      2. Ex-PH2

Yeah, well, Stalin got a brain fart for all his trouble. Pot Pot died and the Cambodian people who survived him spit on his grave. You’d think the ‘got it wrong’ notion would crumble under those realities, wouldn’t you?

  13. A Proud Infidel®™

Maybe they thought THAT was one flag that wouldn’t make those overpaid spoiled brats/felons kneel for? I’ve heard that a number of large Metropolitan PD’s have our National Anthem ready to play over their PA Systems in the event they’re chasing an NFL Player which will make them kneel thus ending the chase!

  14. I refuse to watch any NFL team or game.
    Spoiled, overpaid, unpatriotic prima donnas.
They’ll be carting out the rainbow and mexican flags next to make up for the loss of patriots.

  15. OldManchu

    Fudge packers!

  16. 26Limabeans

The twenty six stars are obviously in honor of me.

    1. Jerky Dave

Okay, now it all makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. :^)

    2. NDHoosier

      sa-LUTE!

    3. SFC D

      PRE-sent…ARMS!

      1. 2/17 Air Cav

        Genuflecting here.

  17. Be thankful that the National Felons League types didn’t just burn that “patriotic decoration.”

  18. No one kneels at a GB Packer game. They will be shot, beaten and stabbed in that order. Go Pack!!

    1. 2/17 Air Cav

That’s true about kneeling. Instead, last year, three players sat during the playing of the National Anthem. F’em.

  19. NDHoosier

The only flag the National Felons League kneelers would stand for has a hammer and sickle on it.

  20. Club Manager, USA ret.

Boy what a bunch of dumb shits. The 26 stars represent 22 players and 4 officials on the field at one time.

    1. FatCircles0311

Nobody on that field is a star.

      Nobody.

    2. 11B-Mailclerk

      It still looks dumb.

But now that you mention it, it is worthy of Spinal Tap: Way offsides of “clever” , about 7 yards into “stupid”.

  21. Bart Starr is my wife’s Godfather. I wonder what he thought of this.

  22. E4 Mafia For Life.

It looks similar to the French flag.
My guess is that it was a subliminal suggestion to get the other team to surrender.

    From the Packers:

“The banner used during Sunday’s pregame ceremony supplemented the three U.S. flags on the roof of the stadium and the flag carried by the color guard on the field. We’ve used such displays from time to time in the past when other pregame elements take up a significant portion of the field. To avoid causing confusion, we will not be using such displays in the future.”

Ok, but that doesn’t explain the 26 Stars or why they didn’t just use a smaller flag. I’m still a little hazy on that banner.

  25. Old Trooper

This is the new norm with the NFL. Whether it’s letting the players piss all over the flag with their kneeling bullshit, or displaying whatever this is supposed to be. That’s why I quit watching it, and I used to be a die hard football fan, but haven’t watched even one play in almost 2 years.

    Fuck the NFL
