Last month we talked a bit about Jose Rolon when Don Shipley busted him for telling lies about his Navy service for no real purpose than to fill a hole in his heart – the charity says that they would have helped him anyway, even if he wasn’t a SEAL or wounded in combat.
Well, we got his FOIA just to do the paperwork;
He spent six years on active duty in the Navy and two years in the Navy Reserves as an Aviation Ordanceman 2 Class (E-5) and stationed at Guantanamo and NAS Norfolk. But no, no SEAL training. The Citrus County Chronicle also reported that he claimed a Purple Heart for wounds, but npoe, no wounds, no time in combat – he was in Norfolk for Desert Storm and Somalia and Guantanamo for Just Cause.
If he engaged in combat it was in Pinellas County lockup.

Honestly, I’d say that an AO2 who managed 6 years active duty and no sea service is rarer than a SEAL.
I was wondering about that when I was perusing his chit. An Aviation Ordnanceman with no sea service after 6 years, how did he get away with that?
Back then Navy had Seaduty Shore Duty and nutral duty. GITMO was and still is a type II overseas and counts as Seaduty, so he did his three years and then after that was offered three years at NAS Norflk for three years. He was stationed at GITMO assigned to a Air squadron VR 10 and that is a type II sea duty. Squadrons,Seabee Battalions,and other NECC and NSW operations units get counted this way.
I correct that type III is GITMO, but squadrons count as type II deployable units count as Seaduty.
Wasn’t that at one time called SEAVEE SHORVEE duty. That seems to ring a bell after all these years.

Telling the truth – that he’s a Navy veteran who is disabled – would have probably opened whatever doors he needed. But he still had to inflate his record.
So, any of you shallow water sailors want to enlighten me on what a “Coast Guard Special Operations” medal is and how he could have earned it? Very strange.

I am a dirt sailor and we had guys attached with our unit down there during this time. They had teams attached with CG helping pull people off boats and saving them.

Chief, Sounds like a humanitarian type award, funny that it’s called “Special Operations”.
Not every thing with order special means SOF as we know it. Example MEU Special Operations capability does not mean all door kicking. This was a Special mission out side of Combat.
Also commonly awarded for major Coast Guard counter drug operations. I earned two of them in Navy for that.
The crew of our ship earned it for conducting counter drug ops in the Caribbean…we steamed with a Coast Guard detachment embarked and conducted visit, board and searches of suspicious vessels…this was back when we had ships to spare for that relatively low priority…best story was stalking this contact via radar overnight and then coming alongside at dawn for a boarding…it was a sailboat full of pretty obviously alternate lifestyle dudes (thongs/speedos, blowing kisses at us, etc.) and they were eager, even thrilled, to be boarded…no cavity searches were conducted that I’m aware of
