Don sends us this article from our buddy Dan Noyes at KGO-TV in San Francisco. You might recognize him from Mary’s picture of him at Fake Warrior Project. He was actually in the Coast Guard and was serving until he was busted. Someone finally identified him from the picture and Dan went after him and confronted him on camera. His reaction is priceless;
Van Fleet’s tall tales have caught up to him because of a new push by military veterans to expose the phonies.
Someone snapped his picture in Monterey last year and posted it to the “Fake Warriors” website for identification. Finally, a member of the local Coast Guard Auxiliary was browsing the pictures this month and recognized Van Fleet.
He called retired Navy SEAL Don Shipley, who verified Van Fleet is a fake using the SEAL database. Don Shipley explains, “All I got to do is check your name. I’ll check your name, just like that, a couple of keystrokes, I’ll tell you if that guy was ever a SEAL or not, it’s that easy.”
Yeah, my inbox is filling up with phonies, too. Good thing I retired from the day job. Well, good for us, not for the phonies.

I know of Dan (many posts above) and Van Fleet (the poser)…before this hit the fan.
Van Fleet did something REALY stupid and disrespectful to true heroes…faking military awards over a long period. Disgusting and indefensible. The investigative reporter had the right to call him out.

So if you were in the Israeli military for the prior 12 years, joined at 18 say, that means you were 30 when you started at UCSF.
