This is the second one today I see that received a “sea service deployment ribbon”? what the hell is that and why didn’t I get one? I was on a 6 month WestPac cruise, during the Vietnam thing…actually 1959-1960? Anyone know anything about these? I don’t know if my posts are even noticed…everyone says its awaiting moderation?

“Chief Petty Officer Jason C. Finan, 34, of Anaheim, California, was serving in an advisory capacity to the Iraqi coalition force supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq.” Advisory? EOD? No boots on the ground? Lies. Lies. Lies. Dammit.

    1. 68W58

“Advisory” in this case probably means, “we advise that unless there is someone competent present to deal with all of the devices the enemy has emplaced, a whole lot of GIs are going to get killed when this operation moves forward and that would be hard to explain.”

RIP Chief, EOD Techs have a dangerous, demanding job which is vital to any success in the kind of combat we face today.

I AM FORMER ARMY EOD. I SERVED DURING VIETNAM. MY HEART AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY HE LEFT BEHIND. HE DIED TRYING TO PROTECT HIS BROTHERS IN ARMS. MAY HE REST IN PEACE!

Navy EOD are lifesavers. They had balls so big they needed a separate Humvee to roll out in sector.

Always let us bum smokes off ’em, too.

This guy probably saved more lives “disposing” IED’s – before this one got him – than he can even remember.

    Thank you.
