All I can say is the war is almost over now that dogs are airborne qualified.
Dropping from 10,000ft, they glide in order to land unnoticed. The dogs often carry cameras and are trained to attack anyone carrying a weapon.
“Dogs don’t perceive height difference, so that doesn’t worry them. They’re more likely to be bothered by the roar of the engines, but once we’re on the way down, that doesn’t matter and they just enjoy the view,” said the dog handler. “It’s something he does a lot. He has a much cooler head than most recruits.”

Dogs don’t perceive height differences? huh .. not sure what that means. My dog sure seems to.
Perhaps he means to a dog there is no difference between a drop of 10ft vs 20ft, 100 ft, or 10,000 ft. My dog freaks out when put on a ledge or table more than a few feet high. Although if he were strapped to my belly he might not mind, I guess.
And cats don’t NEED parachutes; I mean, they always land on their feet, right? So why would they?

Those dogs are badass. I’ve seen plenty of bomb dogs but only one “combat” dog. He was a badass patroling fiend. I may have thought of taking one on before I met that dog, but quickly realized how foolish that would be. I’m glad they’re ours, not theirs.
I hope the dog got “pottied” before loading on the plane. I’d hate to think of the mid-air mess (liquid or solid) floating beside me or on the harness, on the way down.

Do you think that dog knows he is a dog or does he think he is actually an airborne ranger? My mother had a doberman than use to lie down to let her climb on before he patrolled the yard. The mailman, the garbage man, and every other person in the neighborhood was afraid of the dog unless he was being ridden by his favorite 3 year-old. Mom cried for three days when he bit the wrong obnoxious neighbor kid and was forced to join the Marines. He died a hero’s death at Pelileu. Mom still has his doggie tags and the letter from his handler explaining how he died and how the bullet would have otherwise killed him. She still tears up when talking about it.
I’m not sure if that’s so much a muzzle as just a nose/face protector, like the handler has!

Guess some dogs like it fine; saw a vid of the first jump of a trainee rescue dog; she was clam, clue, and corrected all the way, and rarin’ to go when she landed!
