Citizen’s arrest in Australia

Aussiepusser sends us a link from Australia which tells a story of a 51-year-old soldier who was cut off on the road way.

He followed the offending driver to a parking lot where they exchanged words and the other driver assaulted the soldier, who promptly subdued the man and held him for police by sitting on his chest.

Witnesses described seeing three police cars pull up and the alleged offender was placed into handcuffs.

Police have praised the actions of the member of the armed forces, who based locally, for protecting other people in the area.

9NEWS has been told had it not been for his actions, other people may have been hurt.

Paramedics were called and treated the alleged offender who was seen bleeding from his head.

The armed forces member, who police say was trying to keep the matter low key, was uninjured and will not face any charges.

Glad he didn’t have a gun to use on the offender – he’da turned into Mr. Evil Incarnate.

    But good on him.

This dumbass clearly overestimated his abilities in a fist fight. Don’t start what you can’t finish. That said, if someone cuts me off, I’m not going to follow him and get into a verbal argument. Don’t need to go looking for a fight. My wife will give me one for free.

Don’t screw with an old man who makes a living in a profession where most people die young.

Chasing that guy into a parking lot because he got cut off in traffic was moronic. I’d like to know how the guy on the ground might have hurt others in the area. Lucky this was in the disarmed country of Australia. Here if someone chases someone into a parking lot and starts an argument a gun might get involved very quickly. If I cut someone off by accident and that person chases me down like that and confronts me in a parking lot he isn’t getting close enough to put me on the ground.
I drive a semi now and If I chased down every moron that did something stupid I’d never get any freight delivered
Bad decision on the soldiers part.

I’m going to go ahead and assume that the authorities who are saying he did the right thing and what he did kept a bad situation from getting worse have more information than what is presented in the article.

That said, maybe the deeper lesson here is “If you don’t want to be chased into a parkinglot, beaten, and sat on until the cops arrive, don’t drive like an asshole”.

Gear jammer Jonp. Right on. I live in Florida and do not get involved in any thing unless it is a DIRE life threatening situation where I can help if possible. Since I carry, I observe situation awareness when I am out, and do not due things to irk other drivers on the road. I retired my Class B CDL when I moved down here so I try not to drive like some of these morons down here. Smith safety course helped also.

The report said he was driving erratically. It’s one of those situations that, going by the police conclusion, leads me to believe there was much more going on.

        1. Graybeard

          Yep.
It doesn’t sound like “road rage” for getting cut off, but attempting to stop some reckless actions.

        2. jonp

Then they should have put it in the article. Are the rules for journalists in the information that they are allowed to put into a paper different down there? The way it is written makes it sound pretty unhinged

I took the Smith years ago.

Here we see the wild Australian Ginger getting his ass handed to him by a member of the Aussie Armed Services.

Steve Irwin would be very proud.

Ah, Steve. “Crikey. Look at this little beauty!”

God how I miss that guy, what a tragedy that we lost him so soon! His wife has never dated since his death, we should all hope for a love that strong!

A proper tackle, and no yellow card.

An easy way to suffer a crippling injury, death, jail, or a lawsuit. It don’t matter if you have Bryan Mills particular set of skills. Not worth your well being.

      until it -is-.

This soldier could easily have faced a hulking 6’6″ stone cold killer in a bad mood packing heat or a big ass knoif. Not worth putting your precious life at risk angrily confronting someone where you are not under direct threat. Let the fuzz deal w/ this – that’s what they get payed for.

Carrot top looks like he is enjoying having someone sit on him. Maybe he was just out cruising for a…..bruising.

  11. Carlton G. Long

Carlton could use him in the back pocket, mate.

Jeff and Jonp have a good point
I carry a gun and it has made me much more tolerant of this kind of stuff
I do not want to escalate a situation and get to the point where I will shoot someone over something so insignificant as cutting me off in traffic
