  • Another IVAW member resigns

    Regular readers know “Another Disgruntled IVAW member”, one of our regular commenters here. Well, his real name is Jeff Peskoff. Last night, he resigned from the IVAW (not surprisingly, judging by his screen name) and sent us a copy of his resignation letter;

    14 July 2009

    To: Iraq Veterans Against the War Members/Board of Directors/Executive Director

    In light of recent events (e.g., IVAW’s tacit support of the ideology of Carl Webb and the actions of Matthis Chiroux), it is with a heavy heart that I have to admit to losing faith in IVAW’s leadership therefore effective immediately I am resigning my membership from IVAW. I find it more than a little ironic that I am seeing the same failure in leadership here that I have seen in the very military that IVAW is attacking wholesale now.

  • Deserter Robin Long released from prison

    Some of you long time readers may remember Robin Long the little creepy looking guy that absconded to Canada after he’d been ordered to Iraq (after being in the military for two full years before his deployment). Canada wisely booted his dreadlock-wearing ass out last year. In August 2008 he was sentenced to 15 months in the Navy brig in San Diego – getting off pretty easy in my book.

    After our new president was elected, Long wasted no time whining to Obama pleading for leniency. I don’t know if it had anything to do with it, but he got released yesterday 12 months after he turned himself in to the military (he must’ve got credit for time served before the trial). (LA Times story)

    “Wow, what a journey the last four years has been,” Long said as he left the brig.

    He was accompanied by Dawn O’Brien, a board member of Veterans for Peace and a leader in Military Families Speak Out.

    After being returned to this country, an Army court-martial sentenced Long to 15 months and a dishonorable discharge.

    Even after he is processed out of the Army, Long may not be able to return to Canada, where his girlfriend and their 2-year-old son reside.

    Canadian law prohibits convicted felons from entering the country, although Long’s supporters have vowed to appeal.

    Another deserter, Kimberly Rivera (also known as Queen Fat Ass, the Baby Factory) appealed to the Canadian Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration to keep her, her fat, lazy unemployed husband and “who knows how many kids now” in Canada. I’d prefer they stay there, though, so we don’t feed all of those mouths and house her bitchy video game playing husband. Let the Canucks keep them all. Serves them right for letting them into their country in the first place.

    TSO, who for some reason is working hard at the job that pays him money, says he’ll have more on Long on Sunday. Needless to say, his early release caught us off guard today.

  • 4th of July thoughts from peawits

    Since the holiday is almost over, I figure I can’t ruin it for y’all with this conversation between Reagan Sullivan and Bobby Whittenberg. We first ran into Reagan Sullivan when TSO wrote about him last year. We featured Bobby Whittenberg as a potential winner of our Worst Memorial Day post – nice to know he doesn’t like the 4th of July, either.

    Here’s picture of Whittenberg;

    And oh, yeah, if you’re wondering what their mutual friend Carl Webb is up to these days – he’s trying to get his friends to send “far left revolutionary” books to the troops in theater;

    carl-webb-books

    We all know that Webb won’t be sending any books himself because he’s too poor and cheap and mooching off of someone else like a good little Marxist/Leninist/Trotskyist – but he’ll encourage his “friends” to send books to undermine the military.

  • Who speaks for you?

    Do you support the release of those abuse photos that courts are trying to wrest from the Obama Administration? The Philadelphia Independent Media Center says you do;
    abuse-photos
    Yup, you’ve been lumped in with three organizations, the IVAW, Geezers for Sitting on Our Hands, and some rinky-dink organization I’ve never heard of before – Veterans for Common Sense.

    Here’s why they think the photos should be released;

    Iraq War veteran and Board Chair of Iraq Veterans Against the War Camilo Mejia stated, “Being open about our mistakes by releasing these pictures is not only a way to ensure this dark episode in our history will not be repeated, but also a crucial step in our healing process as a nation.”

    Veterans for Common Sense Executive and Gulf War veteran Director Paul Sullivan stated, “These documents must be made public and they must be turned over to a special war crimes prosecutor. Never again should our nation’s leaders order torture with impunity.”

    President of Veterans For Peace and former Navy Corpsman, Mike Ferner said, “The biggest threat to our service members and our Republic is that we forget what has happened and do it again,” He continued, “Withholding these photographs makes it more likely that the people of our country can push these horrendous acts to the edge of our collective memory. This will not serve our nation well.”

    These three tiny veteran organizations obviously don’t have veterans’ or active duty service members’ best interests in their hearts. Yet, the Philly Indy makes it look like they represent all veterans’s opinions in their headline.

    Camilo Mejia has been dealt a deadly blow in the recent past by our own TSO when he blogged at The Sniper (before I lured him away with the promise of free monkey porn and bottomless bags of Skittles). Also, our buddy, Denis Keohane at Obiter Dictum wrote quite extensively about Mejia. Does he speak for you?

    We know the stars of Vets For Peace (known here as Geezers for Sitting on Our Hands), but Veterans For Common Sense is a new one to me. As near as I can tell, VCS is made up of five members, three of whom are veterans. Apparently, they’re a couple of Gulf War Vets who are upset that they can’t get into IVAW. Their mission statement says;

    Our mission…is to raise the unique and powerful voices of veterans so that our military, veterans, freedom, and national security are protected and enhanced, for ourselves and for future generations.

    How would releasing those photos protect and enhance our military, veterans, freedom and national security?

    By the way, VCS claims they’re funded in part by the Plowshares Fund, which boasts the actor Michael Douglas and Chuck Hagel on their board – real intellectual heavyweights right there.

  • Carl Webb; the IVAW deserter who didn’t desert

    As most of my regular readers know, there’s turmoil churning around the ranks in the Iraq Veterans Against the War. Although it’s a result of many things, the most contentious point of the turmoil is between the regular patriotic members who merely oppose the war and the members who want the IVAW to become a tool of the International Socialist Organization – just a facade of veterans to lend some legitimacy to the entire socialist movement. The most vile and despicable member of IVAW, Carl Webb, belongs to that second group.

    Earlier this month, TSO wrote about Webb when Casey Porter resigned from IVAW and brought our attention to Webb. Since then, Kris Goldsmith resigned and this stirred Webb up again. He bragged on his own Facebook page that he forced another resignation of a “conservative” from IVAW;

  • Information on Doug Zachary needed

    While we’re all waiting for the newest Carl Webb post to publish tomorrow morning (it’s all about the traffic, folks), I thought I’d put out a call for some information on our next target who will be Doug Zachary, the president of the Austin Chapter of the Geezers for Sitting On Our Hands (Vets For Peace to some).

    Here’s a picture I found that I had of ol’ Doug when he was at the VFP’s National Archives camp out last year;

    I’d just discovered who he was yesterday after watching a video on Austin public access channel that he did with a Code Pink crone (please don’t watch the video unless you have trouble sleeping). Then this morning, one of our new readers, Debbie, verified it for me.

    I’d talked on the phone for an hour yesterday with another recent IVAW refugee who told me some things about Zachary that made me think of Ward Reilly. Here’s what I know so far;

    Zachary was in the Marine Corps from 1968 – 1970 and somehow avoided Vietnam Those of you were in the service at the time know how hard that would have been to pull off.

    Publicly, Zachary says that he was a conscientious objector, but privately he brags that he was just a derelict that the Marines finally booted out because they were tired of his antics. Several former members of IVAW have told me that they suspect he steals from every cause he touches. He doesn’t seem interested in many of IVAW and VFP’s projects until he smells a fund-raising opportunity that he can loot.

    A few of the folks at the “Under the Hood” cafe in Killeen, TX tell me that he has insinuated himself into their projects without invitation as soon as they became successful and Zachary smelled money. It sounds like Ward Reilly cloned. Remember Reilly looted the VFP’s funds meant for Katrina victims. Well, it seems that Zachary is similarly motivated.

    Another IVAW refugee told me that they think that Zachary is violent and that’s why no one in VFP, VVAW or IVAW will confront him on his malfeasance. I’ve found evidence of his violence, actually, which I’ll save for the final edit of the story.

    So, since Zachary doesn’t have the large presence on the internet that others we’ve investigated here, anyone that has more information, preferably something that can be corroborated, or if you want to corroborate what I’ve I’ve already discovered, drop me a note. Apparently, Zachary has no friends in IVAW, or VFP, for that matter and we’ll probably be doing a favor for the troops by rolling up this clown – who, by the way, seems to be a Carl Webb acolyte – well, until tomorrow when he learns the truth about Webb.

  • Geezers For Sitting On Our Hands freak out

    How many of you have been gone to your local county fair every year and passed by the National Guard or recruiters’ booths where they had military stuff on display? Everyone right? Well, now all of a sudden, the Geezers For Sitting On Our Hands freak out over the same thing we’ve been seeing for decades – suddenly it’s immoral. Here’s the picture from the Juneau Empire that set their bony asses on fire;
