    President orders flags lowered until July 25th

    Fox News reports that the White House has finally ordered that flags fly at half-staff until July 25th. I can’t find anything on it at the White House website, but there it is.

    In a proclamation issued early Tuesday afternoon, Obama said of the Chattanooga victims, “We honor their service. We offer our gratitude to the police officers and first responders who stopped the rampage and saved lives. We draw strength from yet another American community that has come together with an unmistakable message to those who would try and do us harm: We do not give in to fear. You cannot divide us. And you will not change our way of life.”

    He ordered flags flown at half-staff at the White House and “all public buildings and grounds,” as well as over military posts and naval stations and vessels — until July 25. Flags will be flown at half-staff at U.S. embassies and other overseas diplomatic offices.

    Congress leaders are already on the ball, so it was only a matter of time before the White House got on board, but it appears that it happened reluctantly, or, like I said, there would have been something on the White House website already – they had more than five days to do something.

    Editor’s Note: My mistake, there is a Proclamation on the website now, that wasn’t there when I wrote this.

    In other Chattanooga related news, an uncle of the shooter has been in the custody of Jordan’s law enforcement since the day after the shooting according to the Associated Press;

    Abdel Qader al-Khatib told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he was barred from seeing his client and that family members were prevented from visiting. Al-Khatib identified his client as Asaad Ibrahim Abdulazeez Haj Ali, a maternal uncle of the Tennessee attacker, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.

    Answering for Chattanooga

    Chattanooga

    Muhammad Youseef Abdulazeez, the gunman in last week’s murder of five American service members, was 24-years-old, which means that he was an infant when his parents, reputed to be Palestinians working in Kuwait at the time that Saddam Hussein invaded that country, left Kuwait to live in the United States while the service members of the United States liberated his country from the thugs that Hussein sent to Kuwait. Yeah, thugs.

    The place where we ended up at the end of the Gulf War, along the so-called Highway of Death, was a small appropriated Kuwaiti Military depot. The Iraqis had filled the base with their loot – we found scores of Mercedes Benz cars, china settings, clothing, kitchen utensils, jewelry and home furnishings that the Iraqis had looted from the Kuwaitis during the few months that they had occupied the country. I guess under the Air Force and Navy airstrikes it didn’t seem so important to bring that stuff back to Iraq and they abandoned it all there.

    So, the thanks we get for stopping that international crime spree is 5 dead brothers. Yeah, I’ve read the reports that Abdulazeez was a drug addict with deep psychological problems. Friends also tell reporters that he had a lot of problems with the way that the Syrian government was treating it’s people;

    Abdulazeez…also spoke out against the Israeli bombing campaign in Gaza and the civil war in Syria to his friends after a trip to Jordan in 2014.

    “That trip was eye-opening for him. He learned a lot about the traditions and culture of the Middle East,” one friend told Reuters. “He felt Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia were not doing enough to help, and that they were heavily influenced by the United States.”

    Another friend said: “He had always talked about it, but I’d say his level of understanding and awareness really rose after he came back.”

    I hear that ISIS feels the same way about Assad.

    The Washington Post writes about the difficulty of trying to intercept messages between ISIS and it’s fans here in the US;

    One possibility is that Abdulazeez was just a troubled young man who responded to the torrent of hate-filled Internet messages from groups such as the Islamic State that are designed to inspire a single, troubled, lone gunman.

    Such attacks are incredibly difficult to detect and stop, officials said. The growing signs that Abdulazeez had self-radicalized and acted alone were of little solace to many in Chattanooga who were convinced the government was not doing enough to protect them.

    Like I wrote the other day, the LaBelle Disco Bombing in Berlin happened on April 5, 1986, the retaliatory airstrike on Qaddafi in Libya happened on April 15, 1986. We pretty much heard nothing from Qaddafi after that. It took the FBI ten days to pin the bombing on Qaddafi and the Reagan Administration to coordinate an airstrike (including passing through the airspace of other countries) for Qaddafi to get his answer. The bombing happened in another country, this murder of Americans happened here, so the FBI doesn’t have to waste time coordinating with a foreign government. We already have aircraft in the vicinity of ISIS, again, no coordination required. So it should be easy to bring pain to ISIS, that wouldn’t stop the attacks here, but it would make ISIS think again about encouraging people here to participate in them.

    Since the Feds have admitted that these attacks are difficult to detect and interdict, then we need to take measures to protect potential targets. Making the Marines wear civilian clothes on their way to work, isn’t really a measure – that one took some O-8 about two minutes to think up. No one in Chattanooga was on their way to work in uniform when they were murdered the other day – they were at work where they wear their uniforms all day in a gun-free zone.

    115 killed in Iraq

    Iraq Bombing

    The Associated Press reports that 115 Iraqis were killed by an ISIS vehicle-borne explosive device in the Diyala province this morning. About 170 people were injured;

    The mostly-Shiite victims were gathered to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which ended Friday for Iraqi Shiites and a day earlier for Iraqi Sunni Muslims.

    Police said a small truck detonated in a crowded marketplace in the town of Khan Beni Saad Friday night in what quickly turned celebrations into a scene of horror, with body parts scattered across the market.

    What’s weird is that you would think that ISIS would be hunkered down, dodging the massive US-led airstrikes against them in retaliation for the attacks on Thursday by the little creep who killed five Americans.

    Ronald Reagan bombed Qaddafi in retaliation for the LaBelle Disco bombing in Berlin – the bombing happened on April 5th, 1986 and the bombing in Libya happened on April 15th, 1986. So, this President likes to compare himself to Reagan, let’s see if he has the jimmies to measure up.

  • Recruiters’ lives matter

    Recruiters’ lives matter

    I’ve been telling anyone who would listen to me that I expected a major terrorist attack in the coming weeks. It’s just a feeling that I have, because the national conversation about terrorism has been so muted by conversations about our differences, rather than our similarities. We are divided against ourselves and this is a prime time for a major attack.

    This blog has advocated for the arming of military folks when they’re on the job since 2009 when Nidal Hasan, an Army major, murdered and wounded a number of soldiers at Fort Hood during his own personal jihad. A few months before that, Carlos Bledsoe, a recent convert to Islam who had trained in Yemen with al Qaeda, murdered Private William Long and wounded Private Quinton Ezeagwula while they were at work at a recruiting station in Little Rock. Soon after that, Nidal Abdo, an Army deserter, was arrested for plotting to attack soldiers at Fort Hood. French soldiers have been murdered by jihadists in Toulouse, France, British soldiers have been murdered in the streets of that country. Canadian service members died in that country at the hands of Islamic extremists.

    Clearly, the war against Islamic extremism has followed the troops home, and the troops are completely unprepared for this new war. While they’re being warned to lower their social media profiles on the internet, the Office of Personnel Management is turning over their personal information to a foreign entity and I’m not completely convinced that the Chinese are the intended end-user of that information. And, oh, by the way, someone in the National Guard Bureau, released the personal information of every Guardsman who has served since 2004.

    The President yesterday called the attack on Marines “heartbreaking” which is pretty much an understatement. The fact that American service members are being killed while they are at work in their country, in their communities and they have no way to defend themselves and their workmates is criminal negligence.

    The Clinton-era administrative rule that prevents service members from arming themselves on military installations is an antiquated rule, a pre-9-11 rule. It’s outdated and nonsensical. As nonsensical as not allowing the troops to have loaded weapons by their side three years ago when they were being killed by those “green-on-blue” terrorists in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense came to their senses back then, it’s time for them to lobby the President for common sense to intervene in this instance as well.

    Yesterday only confirms that because we weren’t willing to fight terrorists over there, the terrorists are more than willing to fight our troops here – it’s time to arm ourselves against this new tactic. It is no longer a strictly law-enforcement problem, it’s a national security issue. Law enforcement, especially in this case, is unable to prevent a lone gun man who keeps his mouth shut from committing attacks like we saw yesterday.

    By the way, Jim Hansen, recently known as “Uncle Jimbo” from Blackfive, was on Fox News talking about the same thing this morning;

  • A deal with Iran

    A deal with Iran

    iran nuclear deal

    Yesterday we were treated to endless commercials from the media for the deal that John Kerry made with the Iranians in an attempt to keep them from becoming a nuclear power. The negotiations broke several deadlines and were about pass another deadline when the announcement was made yesterday morning. The Iranians seemed very pleased with the deal, which makes me wonder about it. From the Washington Times;

    After 18 days of intense and often fractious talks, negotiators in Vienna announced that they had reached an agreement designed to avert the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran and another U.S. military intervention in the Muslim world. The pact included late concessions by the Obama administration granting Tehran the right to object to international inspections of Iranian military sites and left unanswered questions about Iran’s past nuclear weapons activities.

    Mr. Obama hailed the deal as a step toward a “more hopeful world,” and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said it marked “a new chapter” in his nation’s relations with the world. British Prime Minister David Cameron said it “will help to make our world a safer place.”

    Israel said it would try to stop what it called a “historic surrender.”

    My concerns about the deal are myriad. Aside from the fact that Iran can block verification procedures, I wonder why there’s no mention of Americans who re being held for trumped up crimes in Iran.

    I also wonder what the Iranians know that we don’t – they were dancing in the streets yesterday and the Iranian negotiators were real proud of themselves.

    I remember a vote in the Iranian legislature a few weeks ago in which delegates voted to not allow inspections of their facilities. The vote ended with chants of “Death to America”! So I wonder what the reaction would be if US legislators ended a vote on this agreement with chants of “Death to Iran”?

    But we can trust the Iranians, right? I mean, after all it’s not like they supported the anti-American Iraqi al-Sadr with roadside bombs which killed hundreds of Americans during the war in Iraq.

    But Hillary Clinton likes the deal;

    “It can help us prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon,” she said. “With vigorous enforcement, unyielding verification and swift consequences for any violations, this agreement can make the United States, Israel and our Arab partners safer.”

    Yeah, with patriots like Kerry, Biden and Clinton supporting it, how could it be bad for America?

    Alexander Ciccolo, Boston cop’s son arrested for terror intentions

    alexander-ciccolo-ali-al-amriki-300

    According to ABC News, Alexander Ciccolo, the 23-year-old son of a first responder in the Boston Marathon bombing, plotted a terror attack here in the United States that was thwarted by federal officers after they were tipped by the father;

    In a search of his apartment, officials reported they found it loaded with possible bomb-making equipment including a pressure cooker, a variety of chemicals, an alarm clock, along with “attack planning papers” and “jihad” paperwork. FBI agents said he used the name Abu Ali al-Amriki and neighbors said he was a recent convert to Islam.

    “This is a very bad person arrested before he could do very bad things,” one senior federal official briefed on the arrest told ABC News.

    Dad sets a good example for the rest of Americans whose children are behaving badly. I’m sure it took a lot for him to turn over his son to the feds. How many people are alive today that might not have been if he hadn’t done the right thing?

  • More Good News from the Terror War

    Earlier today, Jonn wrote about French Special Forces sending an AQIM leader in Mali to meet Allah – or, IMO, more likely to meet Shaytan.  Turns out there’s more news along those same lines.

    The Army Times is reporting that a leader of the Islamic State in Afghanistan is also now taking the long dirtnap – along with a substantial number of his troops.  A US RPA strike Tuesday reportedly sent Shahidullah Shahid and more than two dozen of his colleagues on a long, one-way, and irreversible trip.  Shahid was the deputy for a region that Islamic State claims covers parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran.

    A second senior leader of the Islamic State in Afghanistan, Gul Zaman, reportedly also was sent to the hereafter in the same attack.  That means we have a “HVT two-fer” here.

    Hey, whatever works.  To whoever “pulled the trigger”:  nice shot.

    Ali Ag Wadossene was an al Qaeda commander who was traded for a hostage last year – he should have stayed in custody. French Special Forces sent him to Allah on Sunday in a raid according to AFP;

    The raid, by France’s Operation Barkhane counter-terrorism mission, came days after six peacekeepers from Burkina Faso were killed in an attack claimed by AQIM, one of the deadliest ever against the UN force in Mali.

    Two special forces soldiers were wounded in Sunday’s operation in the troubled west African nation’s desert, where France has had troops since it launched an operation in 2013 to oust Islamists who had seized northern Mali.

    I wish this administration was competent enough to start killing the folks we release in exchange for deserters and such. Good job, French guys.
