  • A Different Kind of “Feel Good Story”

    Well, it seems as if a number of senior members of a Daesh unit – the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, a Daesh militia unit famous for brutality and which controls parts of the Golan Heights – were killed recently. The losses included the unit’s commander, Muhammad “Abu Ali” al-Baridi, who went by the nickname “The Uncle”.

    Six members of the unit’s leadership apparently were killed in an explosion on 15 November. What’s a bit unusual is the cause of the explosion.

    They were not killed by a US RPA strike. They were also not killed in an Israeli operation, or by Syrian government forces. They were also not killed by the Russians, Iran, or “moderate” Syrian rebels – if any of the latter actually exist.

    Rather, they were killed in a terrorist bombing. The bombing was reportedly conducted by the Al Nustra Front – al Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate.

    I don’t necessarily buy into that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” crap. But I can’t help smile on seeing two groups of thoroughly evil terrorist bastards – both of whom are enemies of the USA – kill each other with gusto.

    May each group send myriads of the other to meet Shaytan, forever to “enjoy” his company – until each group ceases to exist. And may all of their promised 72 virgins look thusly:

  • Canadian soldiers evacuate their barracks to make room for Syrians

    Jerry920 sends us a link from CTV which reports that soldiers at the military barracks in Kingston, Ontario were ordered out of their barracks to make room for Syrian refugees. Minister of Immigration and Refugees John McCallum made the declaration earlier this year that 25,000 refugees were headed to Canada by the end of this year;

    Multiple residences at CFB Kingston are being cleared for Nov. 30 to house the refugees, according to an internal memo obtained by CTV News.

    The orders will also affect some officer cadets attending the Royal Military College, many of whom are nearing exams.

    And while the memo warns of the fast-approaching deadline, it does not indicate where military personnel will be resettled. However, it does say a place will be found for the personnel.

    Because refugees are more important than soldiers, apparently. If you’re wondering where Kingston, Ontario is, it’s just across the Saint Lawrence River from New York State – just a few miles from Fort Drum;

    kingston, ontario

    So, it’s just like bringing refugees to the US without bringing them to the US.

  • Obama-Hollande meeting; united in “total solidarity”

    Obama-Hollande meeting; united in “total solidarity”

    Obama Hollande

    Yesterday. President Obama and French President Francois Hollande promised the world that they stand “united in “total solidarity”” against ISIS in the aftermath of the latest attack on France. Yeah, I don’t know what that means either. I always hoped that we were united in solidarity before this last attack, but, for some reason the pair thought that they needed to reassure us. From ABC News;

    But beyond some changes on the margins of the United States’ participation in the fight against ISIS extremists, the president did not announce any major shifts in strategy in light of the deadly terrorist attack in Paris.

    Rather, he said the United States would “step up” its coordination with France by providing additional airlift and intelligence to its European partner, and he called for the European Union to implement an agreement that would require airlines to share passenger information.

    […]

    “We must prevent an escalation,” added Hollande, who is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin Thursday to discuss ramping up their cooperation, although the Turkey incident undoubtedly complicates that prospect.

    The White House had been keeping expectations for the Obama-Hollande meeting low well before it happened.

    “I don’t want to get ahead of the meeting, but I also wouldn’t downplay the significance of additional expressions of solidarity and support,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Monday.

    In other words, the only thing that anyone is really ramping up is the rhetoric. When the Jordanians and the Russians get pissed, ISIS bears the brunt of that anger, but when France and the US get pissed, it’s the voters who take it on the chin. They are doing their best to fight a war while not really doing any real fighting.

    The pair hope that that their “solidarity” will convince Putin to abandon Assad. He hasn’t up to now, so I don’t see him doing it. France and the US and the UK missed their opportunity to pay off Assad. They squandered their chance years ago, before all of this civil war began. Turkey shooting down Russian aircraft isn’t helping.

    Oh, by the way, Obama is trying to get Hollande to stick to his commitment to take in 30,000 refugees. I wonder what that’s about.

  • Turkey downs Russian fighter

    Russian jet

    Two Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian fighter that, according to Turkey, violated their airspace, the first NATO member to do so. According to Fox News;

    A U.S. official confirmed to Fox News that the Russian Sukhoi-24 was downed by an air-to-air missile north of the Syrian port city of Latakia. The official added that the Russian jet was warned three times to depart Turkish airspace.

    The official told Fox News that the Su-24’s two pilots parachuted safely and were last seen attempting to evade capture. Two Russian helicopters were airborne to attempt a rescue mission.

    They now report that one of the pilots are dead and the other has been captured by Syrians. Turkey claims that the aircraft entered Turkish airspace more than ten times and they’d been warned.

    From The Guardian;

    Tensions between Turkey and Russia have risen over Moscow’s bombing campaign against ethnic Turkmens close to the Turkish border. Turkey has repeatedly expressed concern over the attacks on the Turkmens, a Sunni Muslim minority whom many Turks regard as their kith and kin. Like the Ankara government, the Turkmens oppose Assad’s Alawite regime.

  • Afghans bring notes from their terrorist

    Andy11M sends us a link to an Associated Press article about Afghans seeking refugee status in Europe buying forged notes from their local terrorist threatening them for aiding western forces in Afghanistan. According to the article, the Taliban doesn’t send letters to their prospective victims these days, but the forged letter can come with a $1000 price tag;

    “Of the threat letters now being presented to European authorities by Afghans, I’d say only one percent are real and 99 percent are phony,” said Mukhamil, 35, who has forged and sold 20 such letters. Like many Afghans, he has only one name.

    He sticks to a simple formula — accusing the buyer of working for Afghan or U.S. forces — and adds a Taliban logo copied from their website.

    “To this day I have only ever known one guy who genuinely got a threat letter from the Taliban. All the rest are fake,” he said.

    There is no shortage of customers. With unemployment at 24 percent and the insurgency raging across much of the country, the government expects that 160,000 Afghans will have left by the end of the year, four times the number of departures in 2013.

    Even the Taliban admits that these letters are fake, that they don’t do that anymore – they talk to a relative of the offender in an attempt to convince them to stop aiding the Taliban’s enemies. But, then, Afghans aren’t the most truthful race on the planet anyway, so who knows what to believe.

  • US Belgian Embassy: Americans warned to “shelter in place”

    According to Fox, Americans in Belgium have been warned by the US Embassy there to “shelter in place” in response to the country’s elevation of thier terror warning system to it’s highest possible level – Level 4;

    The American mission urged U.S. citizens to “exercise caution in public transportation systems, sporting events, residential areas, business offices, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools, public areas, shopping malls, and other tourist destinations.”

    American service members have been told to avoid travel to Belgium. Earlier this year, there was a mass shooting event in Brussels at their Holocaust Museum. More recently, the gun men in the Paris attack last week got their firearms in Belgium – one of those “civilized nations” whose firearms laws the US is supposed replicate, according to the anti-gunners.

    Given the history of Americans in Europe, maybe they should arm US citizens instead.

  • Mali terror attack

    Mali terror attack

    Mali Attack

    Mali officials believe that there are 10 gunmen holding about 170 guests hostage in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamaka, Mali. According to the UK Telegraph, they burst into the lobby yelling “Allahu Akbar” while firing their guns and throwing grenades. Two Malians and one French citizen were killed in the assault. The gunmen have been releasing hostages who can recite passages from the Koran, according to reports. The President of neighboring Chad, Idriss Déby Itno, assures the media that the attack on the hotel has nothing to do with religion, though.

    Malian Special Forces have raided the hotel and about 80 hostages have either been released or were able to escape on their own. Some of them report that there are only four gunmen and not ten as it was reported earlier. A unit of French paramilitary hostage rescue teams are in route to the hotel, according to the French government.

    A Reuters reporter says that he heard the gunmen speaking English.

  • Honduras arrests Syrians with Greek passports

    Andy11M sends us a link to AFP which reports that Honduran authorities have arrested five Syrians traveling on phony Greek passports. They were on their way to the US after flying from Turkey.

    The reasons for the Syrians’ trip were not immediately known, and Honduran police were considering the possibility that they were refugees fleeing the war in Syria.

    “We are not saying they are terrorists,” Baca said. “They are being investigated for using false passports. It could be they are fleeing war. That is being investigated.”

    Apparently, there is well-worn overland route from Argentina and Guyana that has become popular with Cuban refugees recently. There are about 1000 Cubans on the Costa Rica-Nicaraguan border who are being denied access to communist Nicaragua (in support of the Cuban government) so they can continue on to the US across our porous southern frontier. These Syrians, however had no problem crossing Nicaragua, though. I wonder why that is?
