  • “Contained”, Eh? Intel Community Says, “Um, no.”

Remember when the       current Occupant, 1600 Penn Ave, Wash DC       POTUS proclaimed that Da’esh (AKA “ISIS”) had been “contained”?  You know, that proclamation that occurred shortly before the Paris terrorist attacks that killed 130 and wounded hundreds more?

Remember when the CJCS flatly contradicted the POTUS’s assessment about Da’esh being “contained”?

Well, among those in a position to know apparently it isn’t just the CJCS that disagrees with the POTUS.  Apparently, the US Intelligence Community also disagrees.  An IC report recently ordered by the White House “says that the ISIS terror group will grow in numbers and territory unless it suffers significant losses in Iraq and Syria.”

Contained?  Yeah right.  Sounds to me like the report says they’re getting stronger.  Maybe “contained” is simply this Administration’s Doublespeak for “an enemy getting stronger”.

For some reason, the acronym “SCoaMF” comes to mind.  And  not when I think of Da’esh.

  • I Half Suspected This

Yep, looks like I might have called it.   It appears the San Bernardino shooter may well have brought home a terrorist operative as his wife.

  • ISIS claims that they beheaded a Russian spy

Clay sends us a link to CNN which reports that ISIS has released a video in which they claim that they beheaded a Russian spy – a fellow who joined ISIS, but they decided that the boy ain’t right.

As the captive kneels before him in an orange jumpsuit, his killer says in Russian that the airstrikes ordered by Putin against the Islamist extremist group has “made us understand that we are doing right thing” by continuing their fight.

He then addresses the Russian people, saying, “You will not find peace in your homes. We will kill your sons … for each son you killed here. And we will destroy your homes for each home you destroyed here.”

CNN has admitted that they couldn’t verify the authenticity of the video or the message.

I think the murderers will live just long enough to regret this act of barbarism.

  • Flynn: ISIS was ignored because of election year “narrative”

Flynn: ISIS was ignored because of election year “narrative”

    Michael Flynn

    Retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, who commanded the Defense Intelligence Agency from July 2012 until he retired in August, 2014, told Jake Tapper that the Obama Administration ignored the rise of ISIS in the months before the election because it ruined their “narrative” of winning the war in Iraq, according to CNN;

The story they needed to tell, he said, was that pulling troops from Iraq would not leave the region vulnerable to rise of a radical Islamic group like ISIS.

“I think the narrative was that al Qaeda was on the run, and (Osama) bin Laden was dead … they’re dead and these guys are, we’ve beaten them,” Flynn said, but the problem was that despite how many terrorist leaders they killed they “continue to just multiply.”

Obama has been criticized by opponents for referring to ISIS as the “JV squad” and apparently underestimating the group’s threat. The Pentagon’s inspector general is investigating complaints that that top intelligence officials manipulated reports to make the threat of ISIS look minimal.

Of course, no one who reads this blog is surprised by Flynn’s revelation. It’s just nice to have validation. Flynn went on to say that it’s only a matter of time that US law enforcement run out of luck and an attack like the one in Paris a few weeks ago happens here. I would argue that Chattanooga is indicative of that eventuality.

Flynn goes on to say that ISIS wouldn’t be a force if Bush hadn’t invaded Iraq in the first place, that we should have allowed Hussein to stick his finger in the eye of the western world, that we should have let Hussein continue to fund and support terrorists around the world, and threaten his neighbors and allow his own citizens to starve while he enriched himself and his family. Flynn also misses Gaddafi. I would disagree with Flynn on that point, though.

Thanks to CB for the link.

  • “We have not contained ISIS.”

At least a few people in charge DC are still in touch with reality.

Remember about a month ago, when the POTUS flatly stated that Da’esh, AKA ISIS, had been contained? You know, when he said, “I don’t think they’re gaining strength. What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain, and we have contained them”?

You probably also remember what happened a couple of days later. That would be the Da’esh terrorist attacks in Paris, which killed 130 and injured literally hundreds more.

    Great “containment”, eh?

Anyone with a clue knew the POTUS was “out to lunch” when he made that statement about Da’esh (AKA “ISIS”). Well, yesterday someone in a position to know flatly contradicted the POTUS. That someone would be the CJCS, Gen Joseph Dunford. This article’s title is a direct quote from his answers to questions posed by members of the House Armes Services Committee yesterday.

Gen Dunford further indicated that while Da’esh may have been tactically contained in selected areas in Syria and Iraq, “strategically they have spread since 2010.” He further indicated that the group now poses a threat well outside of Syria and Iraq – specifically, in Egypt, Nigeria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon and Jordan.

It’s kinda obvious that Gen Dunford omitted at least one other area where Da’esh poses a threat, too – Europe.  Paris rather demonstrated that.

“Contained”? Yeah, right. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t rain wetting the leg of my trousers this time, either. Tell us another one, Mr. President.

Geez. It would be damn nice to see Administration officials – including the POTUS – simply tell us the truth vice trying to peddle blatantly obvious BS. But with this current      gang of naive and incompetent fools and tools calling the shots in DC      Administration, I won’t hold my breath waiting.

  • White House to send more troops into combat against ISIS

White House to send more troops into combat against ISIS

    last convoy out of Iraq

    Stars & Stripes reports that Ashton Carter, the Secretary of Defense, told Congress yesterday that the White House authorized that special forces in Iraq will directly engage ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria, in contradiction to the policy they expressed earlier this year;

The special operators will assist the Iraqis and peshmerga forces as well as conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence and capture Islamic State leaders, according to Carter’s testimony to the House Armed Services Committee. The secretary also said the United States also could increase the number of military trainers in Iraq and special operators deployed to Syria.

    […]

“In full coordination with the government of Iraq, we’re deploying a specialized expeditionary targeting force to assist Iraqi and Kurdish peshmerga forces and to put even more pressure on [the Islamic State group],” Carter told the committee in written testimony. “These special operators will over time be able to conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence and capture [Islamic State] leaders. That creates a virtuous cycle of better intelligence, which generates more targets, more raids, and more momentum.”

Yeah, well, if they’d done that from the beginning instead of hemming and hawing about the implications of deploying troops back to Iraq (since they never should have left in the first place) maybe ISIS wouldn’t have slaughtered so many innocent people. I’m pretty sure that this new mission and injection of more troops into the region will be pointless, though, since their ROE won’t let them actually kill people – they’ll have to drop fliers telling them to take cover or something before the pain arrives.

    Not Afraid

Reuters reports that a man suspected of selling two AK-47s made in China and two Zasatva M70s made in the former Yugoslavia to the ISIS terrorists that attacked Parisians last week was arrested today.

“I can confirm that a man is in custody on suspicion of arms trading,” a spokesman for the prosecutor in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg told Reuters, adding that the arrest had been made on Tuesday.

Earlier on Friday, German newspaper Bild reported that the man was suspected of selling four weapons to the militants who killed 130 people in Paris on Nov. 13.

It is alleged that he sold the guns to the terrorists on the internet – that’s illegal in Germany. It’s also illegal in the United States. I’ve bought weapons on the internet in the past, but I had to go to a dealer and pass the NICS background checks to complete the sale. I guess, criminals don’t have to do that. You’d think they be ashamed of themselves for disobeying the law.

The Belgians were caught without body armor for their troops and police and they had to borrow from US forces stationed in Belgium.

According to The Age, the French have experienced a resurgence of national pride – recruiters are deluged with inquiries from prospective new recruits and retirees who want to get back on the rolls.

Jeremy Moulin had been walking with friends near the Bois de Vincennes in Paris when texts about the terrorist attacks started flashing on his mobile phone. On Monday, 10 days after the mayhem, he went to Fort Neuf to ask how quickly he could be in uniform.

“These attacks motivated me even more to protect my country,” said Mr Moulin, 23, a former legal intern who said he had often thought about joining the army but now is newly determined. “The terrorists struck in the heart of Paris. If we don’t stop them, they will do it again.”

French flags are selling like hotcakes and war porn depicting French air strikes against ISIS is popular on the internet.

Reuters also reports that the terrorist attack only cost ISIS about $7500 initial investment. Terror on the cheap.

  • The rebuke more powerful than bombs

The rebuke more powerful than bombs

    Yesterday, the President, speaking to the media alongside French President François Hollande announced his most ambitious plan yet to defeat the ISIS thugs in the Levant. He’s going to a climate conference in Paris according to The Hill;

“Next week, I will be joining President Hollande and world leaders in Paris for the global climate conference,” Obama said during his prepared remarks, which focused mostly on the efforts to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“What a powerful rebuke to the terrorists it will be, when the world stands as one and shows that we will not be deterred from building a better future for our children,” he added.

    […]

“I think it is absolutely vital for every country, every leader, to send a signal that the viciousness of a handful of killers does not stop the world from doing vital business, and that Paris … is not going to be cowered by the violent, demented actions of a few,” Obama said about the upcoming climate conference.

I remember when, during the 2008 election, Obama ridiculed President Bush for telling America to go shopping to fight terrorism. I guess he doesn’t see the irony of a bunch of rich guys gathering in the City of Lights to sip wine and eat food they can’t pronounce properly, and make a show of talking about science that no one in the room understands and see that as a way to fight a bunch of goat-roping criminals living in tents, ruins and caves and murdering hundreds of even poorer people for the thrill of killing. For the children.

I suppose the sight of the rich people talking will make ISIS throw down their weapons and surrender. They’ll probably surrender much faster that way than if we killed thousands of them in the time it takes to organize the little party of rich people. Or probably not.
