BBC reports that a judge has granted that Manning fellow his latest preferred moniker;

A judge has granted a petition from Chelsea Manning to legally change her name from Bradley, as the US soldier continues her 35-year sentence for leaking government files.

Pte First Class Manning, 26, was convicted of giving more than 700,000 US documents to the Wikileaks website.

She said in August she wanted to begin hormone therapy and live as a woman.

The former intelligence analyst has been diagnosed with gender identity disorder by doctors.

Judge David King granted the petition on Wednesday in Leavenworth, Kansas, near where Manning is imprisoned.

“It’s a far better, richer, and more honest reflection of who I am and always have been – a woman named Chelsea,” Manning wrote in a statement following the ruling.

Yeah, well, a rose by any other name is still a traitor. Unless the judge also whacked off Manning’s sexual appendage, he’s still a guy. If I started crawling around my house on all fours and eating out of a bowl, could I be a dog? I’m really glad that we’re doing all of this important shit with our legal system.

Scotty sent this picture to us last night and I put in on our Facebook page, hoping it would disappear, but apparently it hasn’t. Bird sent it to us this morning, too. It’s former Private Joshua Klohr who is protesting his discharge from the Marine Corps. The folks at Americans Against the Tea Party have a big document dump of his serious whining about being tossed from the Corps. I didn’t read it, because just looking at the picture, I know why they booted his ass.

An Army reservist, Birdie Anderson, was able to scam the VA, and thus the rest of us, out of more than $364,000, according to The Tennessean;

Birdie Anderson, 55, received a $80,600 grant from the VA in April 2007 in conjunction with a program to house homeless military veterans. Anderson used the grant to buy a house on Kirk Avenue in East Nashville, but the house was foreclosed upon in 2009.

Anderson received another grant from the VA in May 2007 for $25,000 to buy a specialized van to transport the veterans. She received an additional $258,000 in December 2007 to buy another residence to house homeless vets. However, neither of those grants was used for veterans, but to further Anderson’s gambling addiction, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Hilliard Hester, who prosecuted the case.

She also told the VA that she was involved in covert operations in Afghanistan, when, in fact, she was a clerk at Fort Bragg. I’m pretty sure that any covert operations she conducted involved unapproved trips to the snack bar and hiding from her first sergeant during PT and BMI tape tests.

Ohio sends sends us a link to the Associated Press which reports that the commander of the Military District of Washington has upheld the 35-year-sentence of the private who still has a penis named Manning;

The approval by Maj. Gen. Jeffery S. Buchanan, commander of the Military District of Washington, clears the way for an automatic appeal of the case to the Army Court of Criminal Appeals. Manning’s appellate lawyers said Sunday that they expect their appeal to focus on issues including alleged misuse of the Espionage Act.

Throughout the article, AP calls this Private Manning “Chelsea”, “her”, and “she” but as far as I know Manning still has penis and where I come from that makes him a dude, of sorts.

Actually, I only wanted to post that picture of Manning on his first day in the Army that someone sent us a while back. It’s been a while since I used it.
