    In the Dust

In India, women working in a brick kiln are covered with dust. As urbanization in India yields more buildings, the demand for bricks is high. Workers often face harrowing conditions, 18-hour days, and low pay.

    Festival for All

Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is a Hindu celebration of spring. During the celebrations, participants fling colored powder on each other as they dance to music. One participant in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, India, was this woman with paralysis. Your Shot photographer Raj Sarkar says that she may be 102 years old, “but her courage is huge.”

Sorry I lost track of time.

    Morning Sun

A seal basks in early morning sunlight in Skagen, Denmark. The fishing town is located at the northermost point of Denmark, and watching the seals relax and play is a common tourist diversion.

I’ve got to give you another open thread while I spend the day with my son who is off to Syria for the Winter on Tuesday. So have fun and don’t hurt yourselves. But here’s a picture of a real SEAL.

    Masks On

During the Carnival of Venice, two people wearing traditional masks and costumes pose with a harp inside a palace. While the tradition of the Carnival dates back to the 12th century, the festival was revitalized as a tourist attraction in the 1970s. Since then, an average of 3 million visitors come to Venice for the annual celebration.

I may be AWOL this weekend – my son is deploying to Syria, so I’m going to spend some time with him before he takes off.

    Flocking Together

A flock of pied falconets gathers on a tree branch in Wuyuan, Jiangxi, China. The small birds are only about 6-8 inches in size, and they feed on everything from insects to small rodents in their forest homes.

    Blown Over

Your Shot photographer David Jakob and his friends had big plans for their overnight fishing trip in Norway. After taking snow scooters to their destination, they were taken aback by what they found. “This cabin was supposed to be our shelter for the night,” Jakob says, “but over time, erosion and heavy winds tipped it over.”

Hey, how’s about before you send me tips, you check to see if I wrote about it yet. That story about the three Taco Bell employees who shot up the thieves in Cleveland has been in my inbox about a thousand times, give or take, all after yesterday’s Feel Good Stories featured the link. I’m not mad, I’m just saying don’t advertise that you don’t read the blog, it’s bad for morale around the office.
