  • Air Force Sgt. John Chapman’s heroic final moments, Medal of Honor to follow.

The U.S. Air Force on Thursday released an aerial video that shows highlights of Tech Sgt. John Chapman’s heroics during hand-to-hand combat on an Afghanistan peak before he was killed by Al Qaeda militants.

Chapman, 36, a native of Windsor Locks, Conn., could be seen on March 4, 2002, charging the enemy on Takur Ghar, a 10,000-foot mountain, Task & Purpose reported. Chapman joined Navy SEALs in an effort to recover a wounded comrade who had fallen from the aircraft after it was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade.  Chapman “charged into enemy fire through harrowing conditions,” seized a bunker and killed its occupants, the White House said.

Britt K. Slabinski, a retired member of SEAL Team 6, who received the Medal of Honor in May for his heroics during the same 14-hour battle, believed Chapman was dead, and moved the team — including someone with a serious leg injury — off the battlefield, the New York Times reported.

Chapman regained consciousness and fought for an hour after being gunned down but managed to kill two more enemies, reports said.

Slabinski, who completed 15 combat tours, told the New York Times in 2016 that he was “95 percent certain” that Chapman was killed and was skeptical of the video’s accuracy and analyses. He told officials that Chapman’s actions helped save his team that day.

Slabinski retired from the Navy in 2014 after more than 25 years of service. He said following the ceremony that the medal “belongs to so many others” and named the teammates “who followed me without hesitation.” Slabinski said the medal also belongs to seven Americans who died on the mountaintop.

“They gave all for us. This honor is truly theirs. They are the true heroes,” he said in a statement delivered on the White House driveway.

But Deborah Lee James, who worked under President Obama as the Air Force secretary, said Slabinski deserves his medal and his contributions shouldn’t be underestimated.

“Nobody thinks that he did anything other than his absolute best on the worst day of his life,” James said of Slabinski, according to the Washington Post. “He thought he was dead, and he was responsible for four or five others that he was trying to save.”

President Trump will award the Medal of Honor posthumously to Chapman’s family on Aug. 22 — 16 years after he died. He will be the first airman to receive the award since the Vietnam War.

James had recommended Chapman for the award, but she said it stalled.

“I believe the SEALs want to honor John Chapman,” James told the paper. “What some don’t want is they don’t want it linked to him getting back up and fighting back on.”

  • Army No Longer Giving Immigrants the Boot

I had no idea they were doing this in the first place. The U.S. Army has stopped discharging immigrant recruits who enlisted seeking a path to citizenship, at least temporarily.  A memo shared with The Associated Press on Wednesday and dated July 20 spells out orders to high-ranking Army officials to stop processing discharges of men and women who enlisted in the special immigrant program, effective immediately. It was not clear how many recruits were impacted by the action.

“Effective immediately, you will suspend processing of all involuntary separation actions,” read the memo signed by Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Marshall Williams.

The disclosure comes one month after the AP reported that dozens of immigrant enlistees were being discharged or had their contracts cancelled. Some said they were given no reason for their discharge. Others said the Army informed them they’d been labeled as security risks because they have relatives abroad or because the Defense Department had not completed background checks on them.

I can understand the security concerns, I also think this program does offer a way to citizenship that is earned.  Not sure why the Army had not completed background checks on these people before they were put on Active Duty.

  • President Trump signs Executive Order replacing sanctions on Iran.

The President restored some of the sanctions on Iran that were lifted during “whats his names” Administration.  You can read the Executive Order in it’s entirety HERE.

The President tweeted, “Iran, and it’s economy, is going very bad, and fast! I will meet, or not meet, it doesn’t matter – it is up to them!”

Iran has been the sponsor of terrorism around the world since the 1970’s.  The President has been critical of the deal made with Iran from its conception.   It appears there will be no more magic carpets or Bademjan coming into this country for a while.  It seemed to go unnoticed by everyone that the amount of money in cash and securities that Obama sent to Iran is equal to the value of Iranian assets seized to hold them accountable for attacks on innocent Americans.

We will probably have to survive without any thing from Iran for a while.  They have been the major problem in the Middle East for decades and the major source of arms given to evil doers and gained through Russian collusion.

  • Today is National Purple Heart Day

Today is National Purple Heart Day.  Please visit the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

During the American Revolutionary War, the Badge for Military Merit decorated six known soldiers. Purple Heart Day on August 7 commemorates the creation of the oldest American military decoration for military merit, the Purple Heart and honors the men and women who are of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Created by General George Washington in 1782 to be presented to soldiers for “any singularly meritorious action”, the decoration was a purple, heart-shaped piece of silk bound with a thin edge of silver and the word Merit embroidered in silver across the face.

It is unknown who designed the Badge of Merit. It is also unknown how many soldiers may have received the honor symbolizing the courage and devotion of an American Patriot. According to The Badge of Military Merit by Professor Ray Raymond, The “Book of Merit” where the names of possible recipients and their deeds were recorded has long been missing. According to the Badge of Military Merit by Professor Ray Raymond,

Until Washington’s 200th birthday, the Purple Heart remained a Revolutionary War footnote. Through the efforts of General Douglas MacArthur, the U.S. War Department created the Order of the Purple Heart. Today the medal bears a bust of George Washington and his coat of arms.

I know most of you are posting some kind of recognition of this hallowed day in your social media pages.  Just because we are who we are here, I thought it would be worth mentioning no sacred military honor goes by without being leached upon by those who embellish and dishonor their service.

  • Coast Guard unveils ‘Maritime Darwinism’ policy after getting $2.28 billion budget cut

Coast Guard unveils ‘Maritime Darwinism’ policy after getting $2.28 billion budget cut

Ashamed I missed the CG birthday this week, I feel even worse now that their budget was cut.

WASHINGTON — The Coast Guard is turning 228 years old today, and Congress is surprising them with a $2.28 billion budget cut in fiscal year 2019. As a result, the Coast Guard will be unveiling a new ‘maritime Darwinism’ policy to reduce its operational workload.

“I really was hoping for a new heavy icebreaker in 2019,” said Adm. Karl Schultz, who assumed his role as Commandant in June 2018. “But a 25% cut to our operations and mission support budget is more than I could have ever hoped for.”

Schultz went on to comment that one of his main goals as Commandant is to deploy his strategic priority of reducing search and rescue cases by allowing stupid people to perish at sea.

“This budget cut is just the thing I’ve been hoping for,” said Schultz. “It will allow us to make some true vertical cuts and actively degrade our offshore detection and response capabilities.”

Schultz alluded to a notional policy of “tactical ignorance” that the Coast Guard has been working to roll out over the past several years.

Under this policy, search and rescue assets will only respond to what can be seen from shore. The use of advanced radar, communication relays, and other sophisticated sensors will be significantly curtailed, officials said.

“We really want the public to start thinking of us as glorified lifeguards,” said Schultz, nodding to a framed picture of David Hasselhoff on his desk.

“If you’re a few miles off and need some fuel, no worries, we got your back. But we plan to let natural selection run its course if Joe Boater decides it’s a good idea to go 20 miles offshore in his 15 foot center console during a tropical storm. Good luck, buddy!”

  • Staff Sgt. Justin Gallegos to receive the Distinguished Service Cross

The 5 year eligibility requirement to be awarded the Distinguished Service Cross had expired in the case of  Army Staff Sergeant Justin Gallegos.   According to military.com both houses of Congress have passed bills that would waive the time restriction in his case.

The final version of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal 2019 included a provision that would award the Distinguished Service Cross to Justin Gallegos for his heroism. Both the House and Senate versions of the bill contained similar provisions supporting Gallegos, who fought repulse a determined Taliban assault at the COP, located in Afghanistan’s eastern Nuristan province.

Staff Sergeant Gallegos was initially awarded the Silver Star, it will now be upgraded to the Distinguished Service Cross.
