  • Today’s shocking headline

    Well, it’s not so shocking as it is completely expected. Not to mention nauseating and completely unnecessary. Jon Soltz spends nearly 600 words telling us what we already knew – he prays at the alter of Barack Obama, loves the smell of Barack Obama’s feet, and wishes he could be Michelle Obama and bear Barack’s children.

    The Motor Pool Queen who dispatched trucks and drivers from the safety of Kuwait to Iraq for four months has the nerve to write;

    For those of us who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq….

    Fought what? Gerbil and dung beetle invasions? Boredom? The overwhelming sense of self satisfaction at being an insufferable prick?

    Oh, and to show the types of people who pray at the altar of Jon Soltz, this bonehead, Jim Staro, (a VFP loudmouth, by the way – more evidence of the incestuous relationship between IVAW, VFP, VoteVets, etc…) in the comments quotes one of the biggest military failures of recent history;

    Yes, Lyndon Johnson is in vogue again as a military philosopher. That’s how I got this red mark on my forehead.

    Now, I’m not saying that I disagree with the President, I don’t on this particular issue – I told Kokesh that on video last week. But coming from Soltz – it just sounds like “Duh”.

  • GWOT becomes Overseas Contingency Operations

    Apparently, in an attempt to make us safer by changing the language we use, the Obama Administration has decided to rename the Global War on Terror to Overseas Contingency Operations according to the Washington Post;

    In a memo e-mailed this week to Pentagon staff members, the Defense Department’s office of security review noted that “this administration prefers to avoid using the term ‘Long War’ or ‘Global War on Terror’ [GWOT.] Please use ‘Overseas Contingency Operation.’ ”

    The memo said the direction came from the Office of Management and Budget, the executive-branch agency that reviews the public testimony of administration officials before it is delivered.

    Not so, said Kenneth Baer, an OMB spokesman.

    “There was no memo, no guidance,” Baer said yesterday. “This is the opinion of a career civil servant.”

    Coincidentally or not, senior administration officials had been publicly using the phrase “overseas contingency operations” in a war context for roughly a month before the e-mail was sent.

    Right before we became involved in this global war on terror, the Clinton Administration decided to water down our language and redesignated “rogue nations” to “nations of concern” – the same kind of language the police use. Now our war against terrorists are ‘contingency operations” – it sounds more like meals on wheels operations than a war.

    Our enemies think they are in a war, what with all the missile attacks and death and destruction involved. Our soldiers think they’re in a war – their families think it’s a war. Apparently the only people who don’t think we’re in a war are our leaders. It’s just another indicator that this Administration is not prepared for the challenges it faces when it thinks that language is more important than their commitment to dealing with the threat we all face.

    Of course, all this really represents is a chldish move away from “everything Bush” – and attempt to cover up the successes of the Bush Administration and hide the fact that this new administration has no intention of doing anything except be the anti-Bush presidency. Four more years of this mental masturbation.

  • Dems step back from bonus anger

    It’s funny but early last week, those folks at AIG who took $165 million in bonuses were the most evil people on earth according to Democrats. Angry Democrats demanded a 90% tax on those ill-gotten gains – well, until it was discovered that Democrat Senators and the Democrat Administration had facilitated the bonus payments. Now, they’re in less of a hurry to recover the tax payer money, according to the Washington Times;

    Rank-and-file Senate Democrats on Monday helped put the brakes on their own congressional leaders’ frenzied dash to enact new taxes to take back executive bonuses at bailed-out Wall Street firms.

    Democratic defectors echoed President Obama’s and business leaders’ concerns about the tax bill’s legality and chilling effect on struggling financial firms. Critics said the tax penalty could scare banks from participating in the Treasury plan announced Monday to buy toxic assets in order to unfreeze credit markets.

    Of course, that doesn’t stop Harry Reid from blaming Republicans;

    Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, blamed Republicans for stalling action. “With Republican cooperation, we can quickly and responsibly return these funds to the American people,” he said Monday on the chamber floor.

    The Washington Post reports that it wasn’t Republicans, exclusively who blocked the legislation, though, well, if you want to call Olympia Snowe a Republican;

    …Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine), a co-sponsor of the legislation, urged her colleagues to push forward with it. “It would be a huge mistake for Congress to retreat,” she said.

    But, the Senate Republicans did keep a cooler head about them;

    “My view is that this bill ought to slow down and we ought to think about the ramifications of what we’re doing,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) told reporters.

    Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) said the bonus tax could sabotage the administration’s plan, which Geithner announced yesterday, to court private-sector investors to buy up the toxic bank assets that have paralyzed the economy.

    The Democrats had their chance to prevent these bonuses from being paid when they wrote the legislation to distribute the money in the first place, but they let their own politics and Chris Dodd’s fund raising get in the way. Yes, it’s a terrible thing that our tax money went to reward failure, but it’ll be a more terrible thing to allow Congress to get their collective nose under the tent of compensation.

    [UPDATE at Bottom from TSO]

    The other day I put this picture up of a guy harrassing TSO and me while we were minding our own business watching and filming hippies. He yelled at us that he “defected” from the Marine. We shrugged and he wandered away.

    Defected Marine

    Well, today one of my workmates got curious about the paper he’s holding, so I blew the photo up and it turns out it’s a certificate of the Delayed Entry Program for the Marines. Here, look;

    So this guy signed up for an enlistment in the Marine Corps, then chickened out and now he carries the little certificate around with him to prove he’s a “defector”. I guess he wears the mask because he thinks the Marines are looking for his pale little chickenshit ass. Of course, flashing a piece of paper around with your name in bold print probably doesn’t help him hide much better – Ryan James Vaughn, in case you didn’t click on the picture.

    If he only he’d showed up for that first day at the reception station before he crapped himself and ran away, he could have joined IVAW. I wonder if he read that last paragraph on his certificate.

    TSO Wrote: On the video tape portion you can hear me yell out to him that I want to see his DD214. The quizzical look he gave me now is a lot clearer. He was no more in the Marine Corps than my neighbors dog was.

    Editx2: If you watch the second video on the post below, you can see this clown college reject come in around 30 seconds.  His first comments are “semper fi, do or die” and then something about the Marine Corps.  Any dipshit that uses a DEP certificate to prove they were in the Marine Corps was quite clearly never in.  It would be like showing an advertisement from your newspaper for an H3 Hummer to prove to your bank that you bought a vehicle.

    Added: TSO sent me a link to DequalS which has a video on it from Russia Today. In it, they talk to Jim Goodnow;

    See under his name in this screeen shot where it says “Vietnam Veteran”? Jim Goodnow was in the Coast Guard and got a medical discharge in 1961 – four years before combat troops were sent to Vietnam. You’d think they’d learn after a while, wouldn’t you?

    UPDATE from TSO: Ms Olga found some more info. Turns out there is a Ryan James Vaughan from Towson Maryland. What makes him all the more despicable is that according to this, (if this is him) his great-grandad was a WWI veteran who belonged to the VFW and the American Legion.

    Ryan is also possibly a Hofstra Grad.

  • Obama; Incompetent or dishonest?

    Steven Dinan of the Washington Times notices a disturbing pattern of Obama aides running interference for the President in the recent spate of missteps of his administration;

    To hear his camp tell it Thursday, President Obama has been in the dark on his administration’s controversial efforts to force veterans to use their private insurance for treatments and to clear the way for large bonuses to be paid to the executives of the failed insurance giant AIG.

    Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was the latest to offer the president-didn’t-know defense, suggesting to a Minnesota audience that Mr. Obama was “unaware” of the veterans plan until the president floated it to veterans groups leaders this past Monday and stirred a major controversy.

    Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner joined the bandwagon, saying it was he and not the president who deserved the blame for letting the bonuses to American International Group Inc. proceed.

    “It’s my responsibility,” Mr. Geithner said, taking the blame just days after the White House leaked reports that it didn’t know about the bonuses until after they were issued.

    I noticed the same thing when The Hill reported that the president wasn’t present at the 1PM meeting with the Veterans Service Organization when Rahm Emanuel told the VSOs that the plan was being withdrawn. It looked like the President was being kept insulated from the issue that suddenly became toxic.

    The fact remains that we have two conclusions that we can choose from in regards to this meltdown of the administration – is the president incompetent or dishonest?

    In St. Cloud, Mr. Biden, responding to a veteran’s question, blamed budget bean counters for trying to save money with the care proposal that died Wednesday after an outcry from lawmakers from both parties and veterans groups.

    So Obama couldn’t hear the words that were coming out of his mouth? Or did Emanuel have his hand up Obama’s backside manipulating his mouth? That’s not the way some in the room remembered the meeting;

    Mr. Obama “refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it,” [American Legion Commander David K.] Rehbein added.

    So some invisible, nameless “bean counter” gets the blame for something that was clearly an executive decision made in the Oval Office.

  • Obscuring the facts

    Wondering what I’d write to you about this morning, I opened my inbox and found this little nugget awaiting my attention;

    name = amerifag
    email = amerifag@osamaisgreat.com
    comments = dude you need to devote a homage to Osama on your site… 9/11 was FRICKIN SWEET… i was laughing the whole morning… fuckin americans jumping to their deaths…what could be sweeter (and funnier)???

    good times, good times…. cant wait for round 2

    have a nice day
    REMOTE_HOST: 38.103.144.42

    I shrugged and deleted it, because I often get little things like that in the morning from the meth-crazed freaks who can’t get to sleep. Then, I found more that had been sent to the spam folder – I deleted them as well, since it’s a fairly common occurrence, too. Then I saw jeffersonlives‘ comment. I wondered why the sudden surge, until I looked at incoming links, and I knew right away where the mental midgets were coming from.

    Yesterday, I referenced Brandon Friedman’s post at VetsVoice in one of my posts about the President’s attempt to charge vets for their service-connected treatment and Freidman tracked the link back here and wrote another Obama tongue bath and linked here. The Obama-bots and border-line psychopaths at VetVoice dutifully flocked over here to spam this blog with their immature and vile comments.

    But here’s a post TSO did on VoteVets in July which includes a debate he had with Friedman and here’s one I did on Soltz and Vote Vets after the election when Soltz emailed Melanie Morgan and called her a “stinky hag” keeping the debate civil. So now we’ve established a baseline on what I think about VoteVets, let’s look at Friedman’s post.

    Right in the title of his post, Friedman lies. “Administration Listens to Vets; Backs Off VA Insurance Plan”. Now if it was a timeline, it’s accurate because the Administration did back off after they listened to veterans – but they didn’t back off BECAUSE they they listened to the VSOs. Before the 1PM meeting yesterday, the last time the President had listened to VSOs, the meeting ended with him, in effect, telling the VSOs “pound sand, I’m doing it anyway”. He wasn’t even at the meeting yesterday, according to The Hill;

    Jim King, the national executive director for American Veterans (AMVETS), said that the meeting with Rahm Emanuel lasted all of 15 minutes and that the health insurance issue was the only topic discussed. The representatives of the 11 veterans organizations told Emanuel they were not willing to back down, and the chief of staff told them that he thought the issue was “off the table,” but that he needed to talk to Obama.

    Something that had happened between the end of the Monday meeting and the Wednesday meeting changed his mind. Nothing he “heard” from VSOs changed his mind – except that he was facing another Bonus March.

    The Administration was dictating to the VSOs what policy was going to be in regards to this issue. I have a theory as to why the Obama Adminsitration thought they could get away with it, and it’s related to the Salute to Heroes Ball dust up in January, but I can’t say anything about that. Yet.

    The only organization which took immediate action was the American Legion. The Legion had the good sense to make an issue of it, instead of taking the VoteVets approach of bending over for Obama (from here forward referred to as “BOFO”) and spreading their cheeks. While VoteVets was telling everyone to not worry, the American Legion mobilized the troops. That’s what changed minds. It wasn’t the media, either – it took two days for for the media to notice, well, except for McClatchy and no one reads them anyway.

    So Friedman is just wrong that we should just assume Obama has our best interests in his heart – the VSOs need to be vigilant, not BOFO like VoteVets.

    By the way, I have this picture so I’m using it;
    Perry Soltz
    It’s VV’s Jon Soltz meeting on a runway somewhere with VFP/VVAW member and IVAW advisor Bill Perry.
    And here they are inside the airport with more VFP/VVAW/IVAW members;
    VV IVAW VVAW VFP group hug

    Don’t tell me you have veterans’ interests in mind when you cavort with the mindless drones of IVAW who care about nothing except where they can score some pot and babe-age. VoteVets is a partisan organization that falls under aegis of MoveOn.org. Even John Bruhns, the former soldier – turned anti-war activist, left VoteVets because they were too much in the pocket of the Democrat party.

    And, Friedman, this isn’t an anti-Obama blog. I started this blog before Obama started running for President, so it can’t be an anti-Obama blog. I’m against his policies but mostly I’m against buffoons and charlatans who are climbing over the bodies of their former comrades using their motor pool dispatch credentials to lead this country down the road to ruin.

    I guess you can say I’m anti-dipshit.

  • Daily malcontent news

    Someone sends this video from France24 of Andre Shepherd, our favorite refugee awaiting the decision of the German government on his status. The French are probably just glad he didn’t seek refugee status with them.

    Tankerbabe got rambunctious last night and sent us two tips, one about a derelict in Washington state who the judge wouldn’t bring himself to put in jail, despite the fact that the boy seriously needed it;

    A former Pacific reserve police officer was sentenced Tuesday to probation and morality counseling for false claims of military honors.

    U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian A. Tsuchida in Seattle told 57-year-old Steve A. Bennest of Sumner that his actions were demeaning to veterans.

    Documents filed in court show Bennest repeatedly claimed orally and in writing that he had been awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for military heroism. Records show he served in the Army in 1969-72 but was not awarded those medals.

    They need to turn Bennest over to a group of veterans for his “counseling”. Some of those guys from the Patriot Guard Riders would probably take the job.

    A group of legislators from Canada made the trip to San Diego to visit Robin Long in the brig;

    Parliamentarians Olivia Chow and Borys Wrzesnewskyj traveled to the Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar in San Diego, where Long was serving a 15-month sentence after pleading guilty last August to a reduced charge of desertion.

    During the 45-minute meeting, the government officials were not allowed to take notes or record the interview. Chow said Long appeared in good spirits and did not complain, but told them that he missed his young son in Canada.

    “My heart sank, it was very heavy,” Chow said after the meeting. “I was angry that Canada deported him.”

    I’m angry that you deported the loser, too. You should have kept him and tried to get him to work off the money he cost the Canadian tax payers. Now he’s down here suckin’ off our wallets.

  • Obama/Emanuel/Shinseki walk back from VA insurance plan

    Sources tell us that the White House called the Veteran Service Organization representatives back for a meeting at 1 PM today to announce that they’re backtracking on their proposal to force veterans into health insurance to pay for service-connected treatment. Despite the fact that the Obama/Emanuel/Shinseki team made it clear that they couldn’t be persuaded, somehow they got persuaded. I guess when their own Congress turned against them, they figured it wasn’t worth the political capital they’d have to expend.

    ADDED: Here’s the press release from the American Legion;

    The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization applauded President Obama for dropping his plan to bill private insurance companies for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries.

    “We are glad that President Obama listened to the strong objections raised by The American Legion and veterans everywhere about this unfair plan,” said National Commander David K Rehbein of The American Legion. “We thank the administration for its proposed increase in the VA budget and we are always available to assist by providing guidance to ensure a veterans health care system that is worthy of the heroes that use it.”

    Following a meeting this afternoon with The American Legion and other veterans service organizations, the White House announced that it will no longer consider billing insurance companies or veterans for their service-connected disabilities.

    “Although we disagreed with the proposal, additional revenue streams are needed by VA,” Rehbein said. “I strongly encourage Congress and the administration to allow VA to begin billing Medicare for the treatment of Medicare-eligible nonservice-connected veterans. They paid into Medicare for their entire working careers and should be able to use it in the medical system that was built specifically for them.”

    With a current membership of 2.6 million wartime veterans, The American Legion was founded in 1919 on the four pillars of a strong national security, veterans affairs, Americanism, and the mentoring of youth. Legionnaires work for the betterment of their communities through more than 14,000 posts across the nation.

    As I said this morning, whether it would have passed or not, it’s just one more example of the extent that the Obama Administration will go to screw veterans and the military to divert taxpayer money to use to buy votes.

    Right out of the box, on Inauguration evening, on bad advice from one of his supporters, he ended a 56-year tradition of the President visiting the living Medal of Honor recipients at the ball held in their honor. Next, he ended the 18-year-old ban against the media making props of our returning casualties from war at Dover Air Force Base.

    And then Obama/Emanuel/Shinseki want to fund their vote buying on the backs of wounded veterans. Is there anything left that we veterans and military service members hold more dear than the things Team Obama seem to hold in such low regard? Why are any veterans, like John Soltz, still carrying water for the Administration which seems to despise everything we stand for, the reasons we serve(d), the reasons we stay engaged.

    Last August, Obama made the comment that he needed to earn the troops’ trust. It doesn’t seem that it’s particularly important to him now that the election has ended. During the campaign, he said he wanted to add 65,000 people to the ranks of the military – how is he going to accomplish that while he simultaneously takes away their benefits – the things that make them willing to risk their lives and limbs accomplishing their inherently dangerous missions? Who’ll stay, who’ll join under those conditions?

    Honestly. What’s next? Are families going to get a bill for bringing their service member home in a casket?

    ADDED a link from Ed Morrissey on the walk-back.
