  • 100% wrong

    The current administration seems to be making their decisions by asking themselves what George Bush would do and then doing the complete opposite. They coddle dictators and thugs from the Middle East to Central America despite the fact that it can do nothing to further the cause of peace or democracy. Gateway Pundit has a video of Charles Krauthammer saying the same thing.

    While Obama is stroking Ahmadinejad over the election dispute in Iran, Secretary of Defense Gates reminds us that Iran has ratcheted up their support of Shi’ite militias in Iraq. From the Wall Street Journal;

    Some of the Iraqi Shiite extremist groups that the U.S. claims are backed by Iran say they are ratcheting up attacks in Iraq in tandem with Tehran’s post-election crackdown on protesters.

    Shiite militia leaders say a toughening resolve among hard-liners in Iran is translating into direct orders from Iran-based leaders to increase attacks, as well as inspiring militants next door in Iraq to demonstrate their influence.

    So, what is probably the worst thing that Obama could do to disrupt the successes in Iraq? How about putting the one man in charge of resolving political and tribal differences in Iraq who is universally despised by all of the groups in Iraq – Joe Biden;

    As the U.S. military met its deadline to withdraw from Iraqi cities, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said President Obama asked his No. 2 to work with Gen. Ray Odierno, the top commander in Iraq, and Ambassador Christopher Hill on mending fences in Iraq.

    Biden would be “working with the Iraqis toward overcoming their political differences and achieving the type of reconciliation that we all understand has yet to fully take place, but needs to take place,” Gibbs said.

    So why is Joe Biden a bad choice? Remember how his plan for Iraq was to partition the place along ethnic divisions? Why would anyone consider him the guy to “mend fences” when his plan was to build walls? A flashback from the archives of the Wall Street Journal;

    Despite deep resistance from the Iraqi government, Mr. Biden tried to turn his plan into U.S. policy, introducing a nonbinding Senate resolution that called for its implementation. But his effort completely backfired in Baghdad. The proposal ended up unifying all the disparate Iraqi factions in opposition.

    Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who called on the Iraqi parliament to meet and formally reject the Biden plan, immediately went on Iraqi television with a blistering statement: “[Biden] should stand by Iraq to solidify its unity and its sovereignty . . . [He] shouldn’t be proposing its division. That could be a disaster not just for Iraq but for the region.”

    So you tell me…is the Obama Administration trying to sabotage peace in Iraq? It sure looks that way to me.

    And then, they side with Chavez, Castro, Ortega, Evo Morales and Rafael Correa against the legal government of Honduras. The Obama Administration continues to call it a coup (just like his new communist friends in the region), even though, it reality wasn’t. Again, lets read the Wall Street Journal;

    As military “coups” go, the one this weekend in Honduras was strangely, well, democratic. The military didn’t oust President Manuel Zelaya on its own but instead followed an order of the Supreme Court. It also quickly turned power over to the president of the Honduran Congress, a man from the same party as Mr. Zelaya. The legislature and legal authorities all remain intact.

    We mention these not so small details because they are being overlooked as the world, including the U.S. President, denounces tiny Honduras in a way that it never has, say, Iran. President Obama is joining the U.N., Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez and other model democrats in demanding that Mr. Zelaya be allowed to return from exile and restored to power. Maybe it’s time to sort the real from the phony Latin American democrats.

    I wonder how quickly all of those clowns would have rode to the defense of Colombia’s Uribe if he’d been shipped out in the early morning hours. And honestly, as coups go, Zelaya got off easy this time. The OAS is calling for his reinstatement to his office in two days – I’m pretty sure the next time Zelaya leaves Honduras, it’ll be feet first to preclude meddling by the thug huggers.

    But all of this contrary behavior by our own presidential administration is not in the interests of our own security, not a bit. It seems to me that Obama is now trying to deliberately destroy our economy while destroying our standing in the world making us insecure and poor just to not be Bush.

  • Blame-storming Honduras

    Hoping something will stick to the United States, the International left is throwing fingers at the US for the coup in Honduras. I wrote earlier that Chavez blamed the US, but Honduran President Manuel Zelaya tells a different story. Apparently the US thwarted a coup on Friday (Reuters link);

    “Everything was in place for the coup and if the U.S. embassy had approved it, it would have happened. But they did not … I’m only still here in office thanks to the United States,” he said in the newspaper interview published on Sunday.

    “Last (Friday) morning, at around 1 or 2 a.m., Congress was passing a decree to incapacitate me and the armed forces were mobilized. But phone calls were made — I can’t say by who or from where — but these calls stopped the coup,” he said.

    Funny how that isn’t a headline across every banner on the internet, isn’t it?

  • DCCC is messin’ with the wrong guy

    We’ve all seen what the Democrats are pulling against Republicans who voted against the larded up bill for funding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We’ve seen it right here where commenters who have the intellectual depth of a mud puddle claim that the Republicans voted against the troops instead of the truth that they voted against more wasteful spending.

    Well, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has started a campaign against seven Republicans in vulnerable districts who voted against the Defense Authorization Act.

    They may have bit off more than they can chew on at least one of them, though. Joe Wilson of South Carolina’s 2d District spent 31 years in the reserves and SC National Guard leaving the service as a Colonel. He also has four sons who are tied to the military.

    One is a reserve major who spent a year in Iraq, another is an Annapolis grad in med school, a third is a captain in the SC National Guard and the fourth is in the Clemson ROTC program and also in the SC Guard.

    The only transcript I can find of these ads is the one the DCCC is running against Lee Terry in Nebraska from Politico;

    Around here, we recognize Independence Day with parades … and picnics … maybe a few fireworks. But July Fourth is about more than that.

    It’s about remembering those who fought for our freedoms. And those still fighting today.

    Congressman Lee Terry used to understand that.

    When George Bush asked, Congressman Terry voted to fully fund our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    And, last year he said, quote, “We must give our military every resource it needs.”

    Seems like Congressman Terry is playing politics now …

    Last month Congressman Terry voted AGAINST funding for those same troops.

    The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee justifies it like this;

    “Republicans never hesitated to criticize those who voted against the previous supplemental bills that included funding for the troops, but now that they are trying to score political points, Republicans’ votes have conveniently changed,” said DCCC executive director Jon Vogel.

    Um, Republicans were trying to cut the useless pork out of the Defense Bill, Democrats were trying to purposely defund the war completely to make useless political points. See the difference, you clowns?

    No, this is strictly to make political hay and smear an entire military family to buy a few votes. And since my idiot Congressman, white bread, yuppie, pretty boy Chrissy Van Hollen is the chairman of the DCCC, he’s going to get an earful come Monday morning.

    Believe it or not, this was a tip sent to us by one of our liberal commenters, DC who thought we should address the hypocrisy.

  • Your tax dollars at work

    While the economy goes down the drain, while we’re at record unemployment rates, the press corps and the White House staff have a luau;

    Laughing and clapping like morons.

    The Washington Examiner writes;

    Straw huts, hula dancers and kids playing with hula hoops were all on display Thursday evening in the White House’s backyard — not the typical congressional picnic.

    President Barack Obama wanted it this way for the annual picnic for members of Congress and their families.

    “I just want to say to all the members of Congress, you’ve been working hard. I wish I could give you all trips to Hawaii,” Obama said in his brief remarks. “But I figured since, given our budget crunch we can’t do that, that we’d at least bring Hawaii to you.”

    A party for a planned 2500 people – on your tax dollars, on your hard earned money. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns.

    If this had been a Bush party, I’d be able to report how much it cost, but well…apparently that’s not news enough for this administration to make public or for the media to report.

  • Cap and Tax vote – 8 RINOs named

    In case you’re wondering who those eight Republicans who defected and voted for Cap and Tax were (from the Washington Post);

    Mary Bono, Michael Castle, Mark Kirk, Leonard Lance, Frank LoBiondo, John McHugh, David Reichert, Christopher Smith

    Big surprise – John McHugh, Obama’s new Army Secretary voted with the RINOs – I guess there was no career enhancement factored in to that vote was there? Well, you cant say I didn’t warn you about my former Congressman. In fact, our buddy DanNY lets loose on him.

    Two Republicans also didn’t vote; Jeff Flake, John Sullivan

    The Democrats who voted against the bill are;

    Jason Altmire, Michael Arcuri, John Barrow, Marion Berry, Dan Boren, Bobby Bright, Christopher Carney, TRAVIS Childers, Jim Costa, Jerry Costello, Kathy Dahlkemper, Lincoln Davis, Artur Davis, Peter DeFazio, Joe Donnelly, Chet Edwards, Brad Ellsworth, Bill Foster, Parker Griffith, Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, Tim Holden, Ann Kirkpatrick, Larry Kissell, Dennis Kucinich, Jim Marshall, Eric Massa, Jim Matheson, Mike McIntyre, Charles Melancon, Walt Minnick, Harry Mitchell, Alan Mollohan, Glenn Nye, Solomon Ortiz, Earl Pomeroy, Nick Rahall, Ciro Rodriguez, Mike Ross, John Salazar, Pete Stark, John Tanner, Gene Taylor, Peter Visclosky, Charles Wilson

    Kucinich? I’m sure he had a crackpot reason for voting against it. Of course my Congressman voted for it – the highly partisan pretty boy of the House Chris VanHollen, Uber-Idiot.

    That’s OK. Americans are going to watch their fuel bills rise from this point forward, and this time they can point right at the people who caused it and fire them.

  • Conyers pleads guilty to bribery

    Monica Conyers, the wife of John Conyers, neither of whom belong to a political party, apparently, pleaded guilty to charges that she engaged in bribery as a member of the Detroit city council this morning;

    The terms of the plea agreement were not immediately available, but had been negotiated between prosecutors and Mrs. Conyers’ lawyers for more than a week.

    Mrs. Conyers had been under investigation for allegedly accepting bribes from a consultant in connection with a City Council vote to approve a $1.2 billion sludge hauling contract.

    The consultant, Rayford W. Jackson, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to bribe a city official in connection with the contract to Houston-based Synagro Technologies Inc.

    Now this should over shadow an errant husband’s scandal, shouldn’t it? Oh, that’s right – we expect Democrats to be thieves and crooks. I forgot that discussion we had yesterday for a minute.

  • Down to the wire on Cap & Tax

    I wrote yesterday that the Democrats were trying to bypass committees and votes to get Cap and Tax passed today. They obviously didn’t think the Gigante Obama Show last night would help them much and according to Newsbusters‘ Warner Todd Huston, they were right;

    ABC’s Barackspactacular Healthcare Extravaganza (I think that was the official name of the show, wasn’t it?) went up against the NBC premiere of “The Philanthropist,” widely panned as disappointing, and a repeat of “CSI: NY” on CBS, widely seen as already once widely seen. Unfortunately for ABC, its prop”O”ganda special got a dismal 1.2 rating to the 2.0 and 1.8 ratings respectively for the entertainment competition.

    Apparently the TV show where he’s president but plays a doctor on TV didn’t go over well.

    So, the Democrats are panicky according to Erick Erickson at Redstate;

    There is only one thing you need to know: the Democrats had an emergency meeting last night and will be meeting again this morning because they have not yet rounded up all the votes to pass their anti-growth Cap and Trade legislation.

    They are very close.

    Erickson links to Democrats and Republicans that haven’t quite made up their minds and need some convincing from you guys – especially if you live in their districts.

  • Obey vs. Waters; War on the Floor

    Trying to find any interesting news to day is a real challenge, but I did come across this story from Politico that Maxine Waters shoved David Obey on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday over Maxine Water’s “Monument to Me” earmark;

    House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wisc.) and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) engaged in a late afternoon shouting match on the House floor after Obey reportedly rebuffed Waters on a $1 million earmark request, aides and witnesses said.

    Witnesses, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it appeared that Waters pushed or shoved Obey.

    Having encountered Waters personally, I can believe the reports that she’s so intellectually shallow that she’d resort to violence and then hide behind her age and gender.

    This is how The Hill remembers it;

    “You’re out of line,” Waters shot while walking down toward the well.

    “You’re out of line,” Obey shot back before turning and walking away.

    But then Obey stopped, turned back toward Waters, and shouted: “I’m not going to approve that earmark!”

    Obey turned away, but Waters went to go huddle with members of the Congressional Black Caucus. She could be over heard telling them: “He touched me first.”

    Personally, I’d pay a lot of money to watch Waters get pounded. By anyone.
