  • Back in style

    I knew I kept this for a reason;

    Bill Clinton said a vast, right-wing conspiracy that once targeted him is now focusing on President Obama.

    The ex-president made the comment in a television interview when he was asked about one of the signature moments of the Monica Lewinsky affair over a decade ago. Back then, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton used the term “vast, right-wing conspiracy” to describe how her husband’s political enemies were out to destroy his presidency.

    That was the Rush Limbaugh “Charter Member; Vast Right WIng Conspiracy” cup I got for a year’s subscription to the Limbaugh Letter back in 1998. See, if you keep stuff long enough, it comes back in style.

  • Frank and Conyers order ACORN investigation

    The editorial board of the Wall Street Journal write this morning that Barney Franks and John Conyers have directed the Congressional Research Service to look into the ACORN stings – but not how you think.

    Franks actually didn’t vote when Congress voted to defund ACORN last week, apparently avoiding any embarassing entanglements. While Conyers voted for the measure, he later claimed that he did so “accidentally” making me wonder if he even fit to serve in Congress.

    The investigation for which they’ve called isn’t into ACORN, it’s an investigation into the two investigators, mr. O’Keefe and Ms. Giles;

    With respect to the child-prostitution sting, they ask the CRS to look into “conflicting allegations” about “the propriety of these activities”—by which they mean not the advice Acorn gave on getting away with crimes, but “the federal and state laws that could apply to such videotaping and distribution of conversations without the consent of all parties.”

    The Democratic duo also ask CRS whether the legislation defunding Acorn “could constitute an unlawful bill of attainder” by singling out the group—as if the refusal to continue providing federal subsidies is tantamount to punishing it for a crime. Such Constitutional scruples were not evident in March, when the pair joined all but six House Democrats (and 85 Republicans) in voting to impose a 90% tax on executives of AIG and other disfavored corporations.

    That’s what is most important, I suppose – I mean taping someone planning to commit crimes is much more important than the person planning the crimes, isn’t it? Of course, asking Conyers and Franks to recognize illegal activity is like expecting a fish to admit he’s wet.

  • BoA, flag this

    Our new friend ALa at blonde sagacity writes about a homecoming for LCpl Christopher Fowlkes who lost his life in Afghanistan.

    It seems everyone is Gaffney [SC] was proud to honor this fallen Marine. Everyone except Bank of America.

    The Gaffney branch manager of Bank of AMERICA personally removed all flags and stated that they “violated company policy” and that customers could be offended by the flags. She said that the BANK had a policy against the flying of ANY flag –even the AMERICAN flag. Even though they are bank of AMERICA and apparently even though they had no problem taking 45 BILLION dollars in federal bail out money.

    Here’s the story from Fox News by Megyn Kelly who interviews Brenda Earle, an eyewitness, who has closed her account at BoA in response to their callous actions that day;

    And here’s a video of the actual homecoming through Gaffney, SC (turn your speakers down).

  • BDS rages in 2010 elections

    At this point in his first term, George W. Bush was being blamed for the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and he was taking blame for the economy tanking after the attack. This President and his party, however, are still blaming his predecessor for his ills, according to Joseph Curl of the Washington Times;

    Facing the increasing likelihood of losses in the 2010 midterm congressional and gubernatorial elections, President Obama and his fellow Democrats are returning to a tried-and-true campaign strategy — run against former President George W. Bush.

    In speech after speech since taking office, Mr. Obama has pointed back to the problems he inherited from the Bush administration when he took office. And earlier this month, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine catalogued a slew of perceived Bush failures to the delight of supporters.

    Why don’t they just run against Nixon and Hoover, too?

    Unemployment is double that of Bush’s first year which was lower than the months preceding his taking office. This year, unemployment continues to explode towards double digits, and beyond in some states. But for some unknown reason, we can’t seem to hold this President and his ineffective “stimulus” program accountable.

    The Times article quotes Karl Rove;

    “It will be a failed strategy,” said Karl Rove, former senior political adviser to Mr. Bush. “They have been doing that very intentionally in New Jersey and Virginia thus far, and both their candidates are behind.”

    Shush, Karl, they know what they’re doing.

  • Dropping all of the balls

    While the Obama Administration focuses on what it considers important, namely the take over of health care, balls are dropping every where else. They’ve proved themselves to be a Carter-esque paper tiger with Russia when they disappointed Eastern Europe by capitulating to Putin’s pressure to stop building the missile shield to protect our allies.

    Putting pressure on New York’s accidental governor to withdraw from next year’s race has only made David Paterson dig in for a tough battle against his own party.

    The Obama Administration has allowed Hillary Clinton to fight their battles in Honduras, according to Wall Street Journal’s Mary O’Grady, and fighting against the Constitutional law of Honduras has proved to be a fool’s errand.

    General Stanley McChrystal has asked for more troops in Afghanistan which has opened an opportunity for cash-starved anti-war groups who are planning an assault on the Obama war policy next week.

    Andrew Breitbart is promising that even more videos are coming from the O’Keefe/Giles team against the Obama allies in ACORN.

    Obviously, actual leadership is harder than campaigning, but focusing on taking over the economy isn’t so important as letting shallow reasoning govern the nation isn’t working. It seems that Obama’s foreign policy seems to be “do the opposite of Bush” and it doesn’t seem to be us any good.

  • Pelosi on ACORN: Duh?

    So while the team of O’Keefe and Giles unwrap a fifth set of videos on ACORN’s shady advice services at Big Government.com, Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House and second in the line of succession to the Presidency, claims she knows nothing about the story which has been running for a week now, according to the New York Post;

    House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said yesterday she is clueless about an amendment to prohibit government funds for embattled ACORN, although it overwhelmingly passed the Senate Monday and the White House is calling for the group to be held accountable.

    “I don’t even know what they passed,” Pelosi told The Post yesterday. “What did they do? They defunded it?”

    Michelle Malkin writes that even the White House is trying to distance themselves from the embattled organization. Allahpundit writes that the team that will help ACORN investigate itself reads like a Who’s Who of clintonistas – that ought to bring about some real changes.

    In the meantime, Fox News tries to chase down Barack Obama’s Senate replacement, Roland Burris to find out why he voted to support ACORN in the Senate vote the other day.

  • Gitmo Alum news

    Fox News reports this morning that Hungary has volunteered to accept one graduate from the Guantanamo Intensive Learning Center;

    Bajnai said Hungary would choose from a short list of Guantanamo prisoners in the coming days and that he would participate in an 18-month integration program.

    “According to our current expectations … the chosen candidate will be a Palestinian man who will be able to start a new life in Hungary,” Bajnai told reporters.

    “I ask my fellow citizens to consider the difficult circumstances in which the detainee spent his latest years and help his future integration.”

    This news comes on the heels of yet another Gitmo alumni who was arrested on the Pakistan border with his shiny new Swedish citizenship. (Washington Times link)

    Dera Ghazi Khan police Chief Mohammad Rizwan told the Associated Press that authorities made the identification after interrogating the man, Mehdi-Muhammed Ghezali. A copy of his Swedish passport obtained by the AP showed that his face matched that of previously published photos of the man held at Guantanamo.

    “I do confirm that he is the same person. He is a very dangerous man,” Chief Rizwan said.

    Ghezali was arrested on the outskirts of Dera Ghazi Khan, a southern Pakistani town, on Aug. 28 along with a group of foreigners including seven Turks and three other Swedes who lacked proper immigration stamps.

    So, apparently, our “catch-and-release program” isn’t working. In the meantime, a DC District court is determining the merits of the government’s case against a detainee – they voted to close arguments to the public yesterday.

  • ACORN San Bernadino tape

    I can’t even write about this one – you have to watch it to believe it;

    Fox News says that Richard Shelby is pressuring the Senate to have a complete investigation of ACORN.

    This is insanity. Part two of this segment is due out soon at Big Government.
