  • Republicans compared to Nazis on House floor

    ROS sends us a link to Huffington Post which reports on Steven Cohen, Democrat from Tennessee who is just exploding with the new decorum that has been touted since the shooting of a Jewish Democrat congresswoman in Arizona;

    “They say it’s a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels,” Cohen said, speaking of the notorious Nazi propgandist. “You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That’s the same kind of thing.”

    Cohen continued to compare the GOP to Nazis as his rant went on.

    “The Germans said enough about the Jews and the people believed it and you had the Holocaust. You tell a lie over and over again. And we’ve heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact — non-partisan, Pulitzer prize-winning, 2009, St. Petersburg Times — said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover,” Cohen said.

    Talk about repeating a lie until it becomes the truth. I suppose the government writing regulations are requiring Americans to purchase something isn’t really government take over. I mean why would 26 States take the Federal government to court over it?

    But anyway, HuffPost readers seem to be torn over the proper reaction, which can be heartening, if most of the commenters weren’t cheering Cohen. A fair and balanced sample, in the interest of the new tone;

  • WaPo joins Schumer in exonerating Dupnik

    We all know that Pima County Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik is hiding the fact that his department is concealing the fact that they are the reason that Jared Loughner was able to purchase a firearm because they never arrested him for things that would have resulted in his appearance in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). But Chuckie Schumer, and now the Washington Post, is using their brand of sleight of hand to distract us from that fact by blaming the military recruiting system for not reporting Louchner’s admission that he used drugs.

    The Post reports this morning that it’s a Clinton-era policy, from the Reno Justice Department to shield drug users from NICS so they don’t avoid treatment;

    “We do get reports from the military,” said John A. Strong, the FBI section chief who oversees the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). “Although if you are trying to get into the military and flunk the drug test, that’s a voluntary test and you are exempted. The [Justice Department] has decided to exempt voluntary drug tests. They did not want to have a chilling effect on those seeking treatment.”

    Robyn Thiemann, deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Policy, said, “It was a policy determination that was made in the Reno administration.” She said she could not release the memo because it is an internal document.

    So, I guess we really don’t need NICS, since our own Justice Department has undermined the effectiveness of it.

    This still doesn’t let Dupnik off the hook for a minute. His department had more contact with the shooter over the last two years than the military and they knew he should have been on the NICS.

  • Don Surber to Left: Bite me

    Fellow West Virginian Don Surber hits a home run in his latest column. Here’s a small sample;

    I was not consulted on that stimulus. I had a very good argument against it. I said the money supply was too large and printing more money would fail. I said let the economic downturn run its course.

    Lefties were too busy celebrating the 2008 election to listen.

    When people protested lefties made vulgar remarks about tea-bagging and giggled.

    So screw you and your civil discourse.

    I don’t want to hear it.

    Every time they lose an election, the Left demands “civil discourse” all the time proving that they don’t want that civil discourse to apply to them. Surber is beyond right. The Left needs to learn it’s place and show us that they deserve civil discourse.

    Read the rest of Surber’s column.

  • Another reason I dislike civilians

    1stCavRVN11B sent me this link and reminded me of how my intense dislike of civilians began while I was an active duty private.

    On Jan. 3, several soldiers stationed at Fort Drum were waiting for a shuttle back to the base after flying into the airport. Because of the long wait, a soldier contacted Phenix Cab Co. to find out the fare to the base and was quoted a price of $90. The soldier informed the cab company that there were three going to the base for the $90 fare.

    When Lavery arrived, he solicited another two soldiers to join the cab ride with the agreement that $90 would cover all five.

    When the cab arrived at the Northern New York base, Lavery told the five that the price was $90 per person and that they owed him $450, not $90.

    During the discussion on the rate for the ride, Lavery threatened to have the five arrested and called the military police. When the MPs arrived, Lavery told them he increased the amount for the trip because he had to drive through bad weather. When MPs said the rate sounded excessive, Lavery said he didn’t care and threatened the soldiers with criminal charges. Knowing that criminal charges could hurt their military careers, the soldiers paid the $450.

    Thanks, MPs. Lavery has since been charged with grand larceny. By the way, it’s about sixty miles from Syracuse to the barracks on Drum. And it’s all highway. For $450 they could have rented a car and bought a week’s worth of groceries and intoxicants.

    But that taxi ride is a metaphor for how northern NYers are taking the whole Fort Drum community for an expensive ride. Government housing is spread out over three counties so all of the towns can get a piece of soldiers’ paychecks. Young spouses get to the commissary for groceries with Bluebird buses and it’s almost an all day excursion. And don’t get me started on the lack of a military hospital. Thank the current Army Secretary McHugh, who was the congressional representation for the area, for that cobbled-together design.

  • If you don’t stop being violent, I’m going to kill you

    Democrats, in an attempt to prove they’re not going to tolerate violent rhetoric in politics, make death threats against Sarah Palin in copious emails – the bravest death threats of all, made from behind a computer screen;

    An aide close to Sarah Palin says death threats and security threats have increased to an unprecedented level since the shooting in Arizona, and the former Alaska governor’s team has been talking to security professionals.

    Apparently Democrats are so blind to their own contributions to this acid-tongued culture, they don’t even recognize when they’re the only ones engaging in it.

    The Left kind of reminds of George Costanza with this death threat thing;

    Thanks to old Trooper for the ABC link.

  • Pima County Stonewalling AZ Republic Over Documents Related To Loughner (UPDATED)

    Where is WikiLeaks when you need ’em:

    Sheriff’s Department and community-college officials in Pima County are refusing to release a wide range of public documents about the man charged in Saturday’s shooting rampage that left six dead and more than a dozen wounded.

    The Arizona Public Records Law requires that records be “open to inspection by any person at all times” unless officials can prove releasing the information would violate rights of privacy or confidentiality or otherwise harm the best interests of the state.

    How about the “best interests” of Sheriff Dumbass’s political career?

    On Monday, The Republic requested copies of any reports from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department involving contacts with Loughner or calls to his house. Pima County Deputy Rene Carlson said her office would not release the reports without a specific date, though this is not required by state statute.

    This to me is somewhat revealing. It could possibly indicate that the Pima County Sheriff has had more contact with Loughner and his family than they have let on in the past few days (the NY Times has reported multiple police visits to the home prior to the rampage) and maybe even had some evidence that he was planning the massacre. I understand that there are multiple different law enforcement agencies that in play here (local police, sheriff, and campus cops, etc.) that don’t always necessarily communicate effectively, but still the unwillingness to release certain documents (which are fairly mundane) give the impression that the Pima County Sheriff has something to hide.

    UPDATE 1/12/10 4:17 pm EST: The Pima County Sheriff’s office has reversed course and released records pertaining to Loughner. According to the AZ Republic, Loughner on at least two occasions called the police HIMSELF, in regards to his belief his identity was stolen and somebody “sticking him with a pen” while he was in high school. In another incident it appears he had his stomach pumped after he drank too much. The police were also frequently at the Loughner home, usually related to the family complaining about their neighbors.

    I do not know if this is everything that the Pima County Sheriff has on Loughner and if they are withholding more information. However, it i s clear that law enforcement in the area had a significant amount of contact with the family, especially over the last five years.

    UPDATE 1/12/10 6:26pm EST: Pima Community College has released records pertaining to Loughner. He had four incidents in which he dealt with campus police in 2010 alone. Strangely, one of them involved a pilates class.

  • A Public Service Announcement From Operator Dan For My Friends In The Liberal Media

    This is a clip:

    This is a magazine:

    Its not hard to figure this stuff out (all of thirty seconds on Google), but I guess it just takes less time to type clip instead of magazine which leaves you more time to attack Sarah Palin. I betcha she knows the difference however.

  • Another Poser Just Looking For Love

    From The Daily Mail:

    A ‘heartless’ Facebook fraudster has been using pictures of a dead Afghan war hero to seduce a string of women he met on-line.

    Under the name of ‘Dylan Sorvino’ the conman used memorial photos of handsome Sgt Roberto Sanchez, a 24-year-old Army Ranger who died in combat in 2009.

    The fraudster, whose real identify has not been determined, pretended he had grown up in New York then studied law and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Typically he would wow them with tales of battlefield glory and promise to turn up after he got back from his next tour, only he never showed.

    One email he sent to Carolyn Hinz, 37, a divorcee from Minnesota read: ‘Tomorrow night is my crew’s last Iraqi patrol and we start packing up.

    ‘I’ve been warned by command not to discuss my departure due to national security so we have to keep this talk to a minimum.’

    So you got this clown pretending to be a dead Ranger who is clearly committing fraud by pretending to be someone he is not. You would expect federal law enforcement (particularly the FBI due to the fact that this occurred across several states) to be all over it…..not.

    An FBI spokesman said it would not get involved if there was no financial loss involved, as was the case here.

    So the question is if the FBI didn’t do an investigation how can they know for sure no financial loss was involved? What we at TAH have found with these guys is that there is almost always some type of financial angle for these fakers. It might seem silly to some to go after people who are telling fake war stories on Facebook, but trust me there is always something more. Take Jamie January for instance. At first he seemed just like some clown who stole boot camp stories and pictures from Major Jason Grose’s blog. However, as soon I posted that story about a half dozen people either contacted Jonn or posted in the comments section that they had been defrauded by Jamie January. As a result, Jamie January is sitting in a Michigan jail on fraud charges at this moment.

    Hopefully this guy gets whats coming to home, just don’t expect the FBI to help.
