  • An “alarming trend” in Detroit

    Chief Tango sends us a link from a local Detroit TV station about a couple of utility workers were approached by teen thugs with guns. One of the workers was legally carrying a gun and shot both of the thugs. The news reader calls that an “alarming trend” on the heels of the news of the basketball coach also shot two teens who attacked a couple of his players in Detroit;

    The only people who should be alarmed are the criminals.

  • Dan Bongino at the Maryland pro-gun rally

    Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, talks to a rally of Guns Across America in Annapolis, MD the other day while Governor O’Malley was testifying to the Senate about his plan to disarm his state. I guess the point you should take away from this video is that Bongino says that in his 16 years as an agent, he never investigated a crime that had been committed with a legally acquired and owned gun.

    But you should watch the whole video. But those who need to watch it, won’t.

  • 72-year-old Las Vegas Homeowner ventillates burglar

    Chief Tango sends us a link to the local news in Las Vegas where a 72-year-old man heard someone enter his home early Monday morning, so he went to his bedroom and retrieved his gun. When three men entered his bedroom, he used the gun as the tool it was intend and the three men left his home in an expeditious manner;

    The second suspect, described as a Latin male, was last seen running eastbound into a neighborhood. He has not been found.

    […]

    Officers found a third male dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the homeowner’s backyard. A handgun was also found in the backyard.

    […]

    Metro Police said the homeowner will not face charges for this shooting and neither will another man who opened fire on a gun wielding robber over the weekend.

    I don’t know where I heard it, but the only remedy for a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

  • So, Do Strict Gun Control Laws Really Lower Crime?

    Just ask the folks in Massachusetts.

    In 1998, Massachusetts overhauled their gun laws.  Gun purchase and ownership was restricted significantly by the changes.

    Since 1998, murders using firearms have risen 87.7 percent; aggravated assaults, 26.7 percent; and robberies using firearms, 20.7 percent.  In contrast, during that same time frame the population of Massachusettes rose only approximately 7.0 percent – from 6.175 million in 1998 to 6.607 million in 2011.

    Yep – stricter gun control laws work really well to reduce crime, don’t they?

  • Anti-Gun Overreaction, Part 2

    Well, it appears we have another installment in the never-ending saga of “stupid overreaction tricks” concerning guns.  This one comes to us courtesy of a school in Arizona.

    Poston Butte High School in Florence, AZ, issues its students laptop computers.  Since these are school property, the school mandates that they not be used for “sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures.”  Students also cannot send, create, forward, or access pictures that are “harassing, threatening, or illegal.”

    This policy recently got a young man in trouble.  A freshman student downloaded the picture of an AK-47 lying on what appears to be the flag of the Former Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia.  He liked the picture and made that his Windows wallpaper background.

    That’s it.  No depiction of shooting, no threatening or obscene message, no picture of anyone getting shot or shot at, no “blood and guts”.  Just a photo of a static display consisting of a former Communist state’s flag with the iconic weapon of the Soviet era lying on it.

    A teacher saw the “scary photo” – and turned the youngster in.  The school initially suspended the young man for 3 days for violating “school policy” regarding laptop use for using the photo as his Windows wallpaper.  When pressed, they later shortened his suspension to one day.

    I’m not kidding.  Here’s the article – along with a video showing the “scary and threatening photo” in question.

    Apparently they hire idiots with no common sense to work at Poston Butte High School.  Sheesh.

  • Fifteen year old Hadiya Pendleton dies in Chicago shooting.

    So it seems that fifteen year old aspiring singer Hadiya Pendleton was the latest victim from gun violence in Chicago. What makes this shooting stand out from other shootings is that Hadiya Pendleton took part in the inauguration festivities.

    Pendleton was an honor student, volleyball player, and majorette at King College Prep, according to CBS 2 in Chicago. She was a member of the school’s marching band that traveled to Washington to perform during the inauguration festivities last week. She had also been preparing to travel to Paris with her school, according to the Tribune.

    So now with President Obama making his case for additional gun laws, restrictions and possible bans on certain fire arms will he respond to this murder? If he is going to make the case that shootings like the ones we have seen in the past might have been prevented in the past from the gun laws similar to Chicago then he should explain how shootings like this are still happening. Also if one view that guns will manage to slip through to the wrong hands despite the laws is not viewed as a acceptable answer for shootings like Sandy Hook then why should it be viewed as a acceptable answer here?

    Local Police is asking for anyone with information in this case to come forward to help bring this killer to justice.

  • B-Ball coach rescues players with concealed gun

    ROS sends a link from Detroit local news by way of our friends at Weasle Zippers that a women’s basketball coach was escorting two of his players to their car when they accosted by two armed men. The coach was legally armed with a concealed handgun and shot both of the men, killing one and sending the other to the hospital;

    The man who shot the attackers was 70 years old, according to police.

    One of the attackers was found dead in the median on Lafayette Boulevard, and the other was taken to a local hospital, according to police sources. We’ve learned that both of the men had attended the high school, and one had been recently expelled.

    Police sources say the coach has a Concealed Pistol License and is reportedly a reserve police officer. They say he is fully cooperating with authorities.

    I can’t remember where I heard this but; the only solution for bad people with guns is good people with guns.

  • Neighbors hold murderers for police with a gun

    UpNorth sends a link to an article about neighbors who caught two juvenile murderers/burglars after one of their crimes and held them for police at gun point in Missouri. The two had escaped from a ranch for wayward boys and murdered an elderly couple, Paul Brooks, 70, and his 69-year-old wife Margaret Brook.

    Investigators believe the teens broke into an unoccupied home next door to the Brooks and stayed for several days, reports KY3, the NBC affiliate in Springfield, Missouri . Rader did not say how the couple died, nor how long they may have been dead.

    Stone County deputies responded to a burglary call at 1720 Trace Hollow Road and found a neighbor holding the teens at gunpoint. Deputies then discovered the bodies.

    Who knows how many others might have murdered if the neighbor hadn’t been armed.

    The article says that the Brooks had moved to Missouri to escape the crime in Detroit.
