  • Print out your next gun

    The Washington Post tells the story of Travis Lerol, a software engineer who prints out pieces for the lower receiver and some magazines for his AR-15 in this video;

    I’m guessing that the upper receiver would be a little more difficult, but at least it gives the Left something to wring it’s collective hands over.

    Three-dimensional printers offer a potentially easy way around restrictions and registrations — a source of growing consternation among gun-control advocates and some allies in Congress.

    “There’s really no one controlling what you do in your own home,” Lerol said.

    Though printing guns is a craft still in its infancy — Lerol hasn’t tested his parts yet at a gun range — technology experts, gun rights proponents and gun safety advocates say the specter of printable firearms and ammunition magazines poses a challenge for Obama and lawmakers as they craft sweeping gun-control legislation.

  • Battle of the boycotts

    This last week, a number of folks who are in the business of making and selling guns and accessories have decided to boycott sales all sales, including sales to LEOs in the states that are tightening their gun controls on their citizens. So far it’s LaRue Tactical, Olympic Arms, Extreme Firepower Inc, LLC, Templar Custom, York Arms, and USA Midway. Magpul Industries, a Colorado-based company that makes large-capacity magazines, threatened to move out of the state if they restricted citizens’ ability to purchase their products. So, Colorado legislators ignored the threat and passed a bill to limit magazines to 15-rounds – by three votes.

    We talked about the gun range owner
    near Burlington, Vermont who forbade use of his privately-owned range by Burlington police when the city council made gun control noises.

    Just this weekend, Prince George’s County’s Department of Parks and Recreation in Maryland decided that they’d ban gun shows on the county’s property;

    “It is a temporary moratorium. We will revisit this,” says Anita Pesses with the agency’s Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. “We are taking everybody’s opinions and actions into account.”

    Pesses is promising the department will re-evaluate its decision after lawmakers in D.C. and Annapolis are done debating possible gun control bills.

    “We felt that given the potential legislation on the state and the federal level, we are putting a hold on that activity for now until we can reassess after the legislative session.”

    The move includes only shows that would take place on county-owned land and has led to the cancellation of at least one event.

    The Silverado Gun Show was slated for the holiday weekend, but it has been scrapped.

    Yeah, well, another route might have been to increase the number of gun shows while politicans throw a collective hissy fit, but it’s just easier in Blue Maryland to stop the trafficking of legal wares and hamstringing legitimate businessmen.

    And, oh, by the way…remember when I was warning y’all that the government was buying up loads of ammo as a means of gun control, and someone kept telling us “no, they’re not!” Well, try buying any ammo today – even .22 ammo, which used to be about $.09/round, if you can find it, is going for $.42/round today.

  • President’s Day feel good story

    In a link sent to us by Chief Tango from The Blaze, a father defended his home and family in Prince Edward County, VA yesterday when three men broke down his door. The man managed to kill two of the thugs and the third apparently escaped. From WWBT;

    This situation began unfolding at about 4:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of Prince Edward Highway, or Route 460. Investigators told NBC12’s Kelly Avellino three unknown men forced their way in the front door of the home, where a man was alone with a 2-year-old child.

    According to a press release issued by Sheriff Wesley W. Reed, that man called 911 to report a home invasion and said the suspects were armed. Reed also said gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and the caller.

    Authorities said two suspects were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third managed to escape on foot.

    We’re told the homeowner and the child were not harmed.

  • Robbery thwarted by guard with semi-auto rifle

    Chief Tango sends us a link to a story in MyFoxDetroit about two criminals who tried to rob a tax preparation office but encountered a security guard who was armed with a semi-automatic rifle. The thugs fled and only the security guard was wounded in his upper leg, according to police;

    Fox 2 News Headlines

    “The security guard that was inside returned fire, two shots at the suspect. Did not hit him. The suspects then fled the location,” said Inkster Police Detective Lieutenant Jeffrey Smith.

    The couple ran off in different directions. Police do not believe the man or the woman were wounded.

    The security guard shot twice, once through a doorway and a round directly through a wall.

    The reporters keep calling the security guard’s weapon an “AR-15 rifle” but it doesn’t look like one to me – maybe. That might be the new code word for all semi-automatic rifles now like “AK-47” was for a while. But, it is pretty scary-looking, so it will probably be swept up in the scary-looking weapon ban – even though, in this instance, like most incidents, it was used on the side of good.

  • Police drunk on the job.

    Well it looks like in certain areas of Chicago have been found Police officers under the influence of alcohol on the job. What makes it noteworthy is that according to a investigation reported by NBC that would allow them to work under the influence.

    Many suburban departments actually have clauses in their union contracts which prevent any kind of discipline for officers with substantial amounts of alcohol in their systems — even those nearing the state definition of legally drunk, an investigation by the Better Government Association and NBC Chicago reveals.

    “I worry about it every day,” said Sam Pulia, the mayor of west suburban Westchester.

    Pulia, himself a former Westchester police officer, tried unsuccessfully to stop ratification of his department’s union contract which only allows discipline against officers when they hit an alcohol level of .05.

    So are the Police Unions allowing members to not be fire for drinking on the job? Will it take someone being killed before this changes? Why is this being tolerated?

    “It’s absolutely outrageous. These are collective bargaining agreements in which police unions have somehow forced police departments to allow high levels of alcohol in the bloodstreams of cops when they’re on the job,” Shaw said.

    If the Unions want a pay increase then one of the thing that should be changed this policy now. Because who wants to explain a incident like this because they were buzzed.

  • LaPierre’s rebuttal to the SOTU address at 5:15

    Just a reminder that in about 45 minutes, NRA’s Wayne LaPierre will give his rebuttal to the State of the Union Address right here. Don’t forget to tune in;

  • NRA: Stand and Fight; High Capacity Magazines

    The latest in the NRA’s series of videos to push back against the idiot liberal attempt to grab our stuff is about high capacity magazines;

    Time is getting tight. ROS sends us a link to the legislation that was introduced in Missouri which doesn’t have a “grandfather” clause for scary-looking weapons which will turn Missourians into felons 90 days after the legislation is approved.

    Then there’s the Washington State bill (a .pdf of the text) which does the same thing – like New York, it only takes one feature that scares a hippie to make a weapon illegal.

    This evening at 5:15pm (EST), Wayne LaPierre will have a response to the State of the Union Address and the NRA has sent us a link to the player;

  • Miami father killed in struggle

    Lance Cooley sends us a link to a Fox News story about a Miami father who confronted two armed intruders into his home in an attempt to protect his daughter. Of course, it turns out like you’d expect;

    The incident happened late Tuesday night in Miami. The father, identified as Maurice Renard, 36, got into a struggle with the suspects when they tried to gain entry into his 11-year-old daughter’s bedroom, police told FoxNews.com. The father was fatally shot in the struggle.

    There were no other reports of injuries. The suspects were described as black males.

    Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said it appears the men were trying to rob the home.

    I guess the main stream media would report that the unarmed man was safe until a gun was brought into his house – so the Left’s meme that a family with a gun in the house is less safe than one without a gun remains true.
