    Folks – if this is satire and I missed it PLEASE don’t hold my ignorance against TAH. I didn’t make the effort to verify the validity because it simply seems valid. If it ain’t real it DOES at least rise to the level of what Might Be given the current state of affairs, AND you just might be be as querulous as I.

    This comes from Mohammad Alshoaiby writing for the Saudi Gazette on the occasion of a Holder visit in Riyadh. In normal times, I wouldn’t give a thought to it, but we’re talking about Eric Holder, so the “Saudi Munasaha (Counseling)” is likely of great interest to our current government. Far too many of America’s “young people” are violent and so Saudi Arabia, the country that has chosen to switch from beheadings to firing squads because they have a shortage of swordsmen, can teach us how to un-indoctrinate our youth…or maybe this is about TeaParty terrorists.

    Even paranoids have enemies.

  • What Would YOU Do?

    A simple question for this learned crew.

    Someone gave me a Mossberg 500 in 20 gauge today.   BTW, all of my ammo, if I had any, might be 12 gauge.

    Should I just toss this thing on the burn pile?

    There are some after-market sorta neat things for the 500 it seems, but I dunno.

    ETA:  Perhaps I should have explained, but it seemed apparent. “What do you need with another gun?” That question, stated in THE voice made me wonder.

  • Reality Check?

    The elephant in the room is making enough noise to be heard, but nobody seems to be listening.

    As Jonn noted here one Senator is convinced that PTS(D) should preclude many vets from owning guns, but we may have a sitting senator who, in every way, could be pictured along side the very definition of the thing.

    John McCain is a bona fide American Hero. However, the very events that make him a hero would make him suspect in some eyes.  Anyone doubt he could buy any gun he fancied?

    Please set aside his current behaviors because my point concerns a much broader dichotomy.

    The DSM is evolving tool. And there is a rather lengthy history of defining any opposition as mentally ill.

    Calling a Senator or two a “Wacko Bird” is one thing, but where will it end for the rest of us?

    This can be a sort of  “feel good” story depending how one sees the world.

    Caveat: I dunno if this linked site is satire or not? I opted against delving too deeply there because either way I had the feeling it would cause my blood pressure to spike.

    School Offers Counseling for Students Troubled by Pastry-Gun Incident

    The elementary school that was the scene of Josh’s brutally harmless rampage sent students home Friday with a letter describing the incident as if it had actually been serious:

    Dear Parents and Guardians:

    I am writing to let you know about an incident that occurred this morning in one of our classrooms and encourage you to discuss this matter with your child in a manner you deem most appropriate.

    During breakfast this morning, one of our students used food to make inappropriate gestures that disrupted the class. While no physical threats were made and no one [was] harmed, the student had to be removed from the classroom.

    As you are aware, the … Code of Student Conduct and appropriate consequences related to violations of the code are clearly spelled out in the Student Handbook, which was sent home during the first week of school and can be found on our website, www.aacps.org….

    If your children express that they are troubled by today’s incident, please talk with them and help them share their feelings. Our school counselor is available to meet with any students who have the need to do so next week. In general, please remind them of the importance of making good choices.

    Pretty sure that if your children are “troubled” by another kid biting a pastry into something that looks sort of like a gun and waving said pastry around, you have already failed as a parent.

    I keep thinking about “Animal House” and the food fight scene. Simulated explosives  – OH THE HORROR!

  • Chow… Just a Saturday (Geezer) Silly

    Many here have traveled the world in uniform.  This post is/was prompted by an exchange on FB with a young sailor just back in CONUS after a stint in Brussels.

    He opined that one of the things he liked about returning was the variety of food he found.  It took some time for me to get the neurons firing. At first I was a food fuddy-duddy then I remembered  nuoc mam on anything and 33 beer, and Balut. Even after some reflection I am still a bit surprised that he couldn’t find variety in Europe, but that’s just me.

    I’ve snacked from street venders in Olongapo and DaNang.

    So… what is the strangest thing you’ve eaten? C-RATS and/or MRE’s don’t count.

    Caveat: This may well not be the first time I’ve asked. If so….

    Some of the Army guys here seem to have missed this:

    Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf Buried at West Point

    Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, the no-nonsense Desert Storm commander famously nicknamed “Stormin’ Norman,” graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, soaking up its values: “Duty, Honor, Country.”

    He married here. He taught here. And on Thursday he was buried here.

    I’ll leave it at that.

    It has been said that “Laughter Is the Best Medicine.”  Using that old saw as a standard I’ve tried to find humor in the absurd, but in my apparent dotage it is getting harder to do so…

    Anyway,  it seems Clint Eastwood has been Swatted

    Add another celebrity to the list of people that have been swatted. “Dirty Harry” himself, Clint Eastwood, is the latest in a long line of celebrity victims. According to TMZ, police rushed to Eastwood’s Los Angeles home this week, after a 911 call stated that men with assault weapons were inside the actor’s house, and people had been shot.

    Linking Eastwood with Bieber (see the link) is funny, but all it takes is a phony 911 call. Any one of us could annoy someone and have a well meaning SWAT team come a-knocking.

    I suspect that defining “absurd” is where I fail. Someone has changed the definition when I wasn’t looking.

    How ’bout this one: Karzai has ordered all U.S. Special Forces out of two key provinces within two weeks.

    My first thought was that he must finally have amassed enough cash AND have a jet on the runway all warmed up.  If we didn’t have “boots on the ground” there the absurdity would be worth mentioning. How DID he become Prez in the first place?

    Hmmm… I found myself getting so tangled up in definitions I almost trashed this post. Then I realized that my confusion may reflect some of you TAH readers so I’ll leave it to you.
