    Several shots were fired at an armed home invasion in the town of Medina early Friday morning, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said.

    At least one person forced his or her way into a home around 3 a.m. but fled when confronted by the resident who was in the home at the time, spokeswoman Elise Schaffer said.

    No injuries were reported, Schaffer said.

    In yesterday’s feel good stories, we talked about one homeowner in LaCrosse, Wisconsin who busted caps at three intruders but he didn’t think he hit any of them. Today we learn that he did get one who is 21-year-old Clifton Traywick and he’s in critical condition at the hospital. Police also arrested one of his accomplices, 22-year-old Duane M. Strelow.

    Chief Tango sends a link from Ponchatoula, Louisiana;

    The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Ronald Morgan, 53, was found dead outside of a Ponchatoula home around 6:30 p.m.

    According to detectives, the homeowner had an active protective order against Morgan. They added the homeowner also reportedly asked Morgan several times to leave.

    Deputies said Morgan apparently refused. They added he allegedly pulled out a knife and started threatening the homeowners.

    Authorities said Morgan was then shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Chief Tango sends us our first story from LaCrosse, Wisconsin;

    A South Side La Crosse tenant shot a man breaking into a duplex early Friday, according to La Crosse police.

    The resident of 417 S. Eighth St. called police about 6:55 a.m. reporting two or three people had entered his home.

    The tenant shot at the intruders with a pistol, police said. One of the intruders is hospitalized. His condition is unknown.

    From Williamsport, Pennsylvania;

    Upon forcing his way through a laundry room window at a home on Queneshaque Road about 6 a.m. Wednesday, alleged burglar Jason Robert Yahn was met by the homeowner, who was armed with a handgun, state Trooper James Doane said.

    Timothy Jasper, the homeowner, demanded that the intruder identify himself and explain what he was doing in his house.

    However, the burglar immediately reversed course, going back out the same window he came in, bolting to a pickup truck and jumping into the vehicle.

    As the 34-year-old Yahn fled the scene, Jasper began shooting at the truck, trying to stop him, Doane said.

    From Arlington, Texas;

    The suspects entered Z-Comm, an Arlington-based cell phone repair store that buys and sells cell phones, under the guise that they were there to do business, surveillance footage of the July 18 incident showed.

    But it wasn’t long before one of the two suspects pulled out a handgun, pointing it at the store’s owner and his son, who were standing behind the counter.

    The armed suspect pointed the gun at the store’s owner and his son and jumped over the counter, where he was quickly tackled and wrestled to the ground, the surveillance footage, released by Arlington Police, showed.

    As the struggled ensued, the other suspect pulled out a gun and can be seen brandishing the weapon at the group, but the store owner didn’t miss a beat, swatting at the second gun while continuing to wrangle the first away.

    Both suspects got away, but not before the store owner and son nearly dragged one of the men back inside.

    “We do NOT recommend that you try and fight off armed robbers,” Arlington Police wrote in a Facebook post about the incident. “These clerks got very lucky that they were not shot or killed.”

    Store owner Khurrum Monga agreed, telling CBS DFW that it was only after the fact that he realized what he and his son did was dangerous.

    From Charleston, Missouri;

    Charleston Department of Public Safety was contacted about a report of a person shot in the 600 block of Paul Street.

    Not too long after news of a shooting, the agency was notified by Highway Patrol that a person was robbed at the Casey’s General Store on Story Street.

    Officers responded to the shooting scene and found a 20-year-old Charleston man with several gunshot wounds.

    The officers who responded to the robbery and found two men from Tennessee who claimed to have been robbed.

    One of the men told officers he shot the person who had robbed him.

    The investigation indicates the man from Charleston was the one shot by the two Tennessee men.

    The man allegedly pulled a gun and tried to rob the two men.

    One of the men had a concealed carry permit, so he drew his weapon and fired it several times at the robber.

    The two Tennessee men then fled the scene and contacted officials.

    The Charleston man was transferred to an area hospital for treatment and he is listed in serious condition.

    From Roseville, Michigan;

    The suspects are said to have arrived at the home on Pasadena in a black Acura around 2 p.m. They allegedly got out of the car and began to assault a man who lived at the home. That man is said to have fired a handgun — hitting one of the suspects in the leg.

    After fleeing in the vehicle, the suspects were found in a parking lot on Gratiot south of Martin.

    Two fled on foot and two stayed with the car before being taken into custody.

    Currently, three of the suspects are with police and the fourth taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

    In Dallas, Texas, a homeowner, an earlier riser, encountered a burglar who had injured himself vaulting over a wall to steal the homeowner’s car. The homeowner held him at gun point until the police arrived to haul his ass off to the hoosegow.

    A little frontier justice in Nigeria;

    Angry youths have reportedly buried alive a suspected armed robbers, Chukwudi Omaka, who along with his gang members allegedly robbed and killed a businessman.

    The businessman, Idam Ogbonnia, was killed at Amaisri community in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

    Police yesterday paraded three of those who reportedly killed Ogbonnia.

    A witness, who is a resident of the community, Emmanuel Udu, said Omaka was also among robbers who robbed a cold room known as Etuelughu, belonging to Oko Udu Monday and another businessman identified simply as David, selling provisions.

    He said: “The handsome boy (Omaka) was beaten thoroughly. Despite that, he refused to name his members. He was later buried alive by Amasiri youths.”

    It was learnt that after burying Omaka, youths planted a tree on the grave in accordance with the customs of the community against anyone who committed a crime. The tradition has been as old as the community.

    From Dothan, Alabama;

    Lieutenant Brian Smith says a passenger tried to force the driver out of a vehicle while traveling through the parking lot of the LaQuinta Inn.

    Both men got out of the car and the driver fired a shot into the air.

    The passenger ran away but was arrested a short time later. He’s charged with robbery.

    From San Antonio, Texas;

    The burglar, dressed in all black, broke into the home in the 400 block of Millwood Lane around 9:30 a.m. He entered through the garage and then forced his way into the kitchen, where he encountered the homeowner, police said.

    Sgt. Abel Balderas said the suspect tried to flee but the owner grabbed a handgun and shot at him.

    Witnesses saw the suspect running down Mertz Drive. But police say he returned to the scene shortly thereafter and got into an argument with the homeowner. He then fled once again.

    From Columbus, Georgia;

    Muscogee Superior Court records show the intruder a Kingsberry Street resident shot in self-defense Monday had four burglary convictions.

    Columbus police called to a shooting at 9:50 p.m. said they found 23-year-old Derrick Keyvon Cureton dead at the scene in the 5300 block of Kingsberry Street.

    “The initial investigation indicates that the homeowner was confronted by an intruder and defended himself,” police wrote in a news release….

    From Waco, Texas;

    The robber, who was armed with a handgun, approached the victim at around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday near the Glen Oaks apartments in the 5100 block of Sanger and demanded money.

    “The victim pulled his gun and began shooting at the suspect,” Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

    “The suspect then shot the victim striking him in the right leg.”

    The robber ran to the south.

    Police believe [18-year-old Jalen] Cole and an accomplice tried to break into an apartment when someone inside opened fire on them. Gunshots were exchanged as the suspects tried to get away, but Cole was wounded and died at the scene.

    A bullet went through the wall of the home and shot a 44-year-old neighbor. He was airlifted to a hospital in Houston for surgery.

    The investigation is on-going.

    From Blytheville, Arkansas;

    Police say a person who tried to rob a pizza business in northeast Arkansas was fatally shot.

    Blytheville Police Capt. Scott Adams said the person was shot late Sunday at a Domino’s Pizza.

    Adams said an employee of the business shot the person during the attempted robbery.

    In Puyallup, Washington;

    It was about 10:30 p.m. when the resident heard someone pounding on his door at the Chestnut Hills apartments in the 200 block of 21st Avenue SW.

    He looked out the window and saw a man holding what appeared to be a gun, so he armed himself.

    The resident didn’t fire until the intruder forced his way into the apartment, police said.

    The intruder fled in a vehicle before police arrived.

    Officers notified local hospitals to be on the lookout for a man coming in with a gunshot wound, a routine procedure in that type of incident.

    Shortly afterward, a 52-year-old man sought treatment at Good Samaritan Hospital for a gunshot wound. He’s expected to survive his injury.

    From Las Vegas, Nevada;

    Arriving officers found the naked man sitting in the parking lot with the handgun. As additional patrol units arrived, officers surrounded the parking lot and tried to speak with the man.

    During the incident, the man appeared to listen to officers commands, set the gun down, and moved away from it.

    “Officers attempted to make conversation and dialogue with the male, and at some point, he started to comply and listen to the officers’ commands, put the firearm down, and then approached the officers,” said LVMPD Sgt. Jeff Clark.

    However, as officers gave more verbal commands to the suspect, he turned and ran back towards the handgun that was on the ground.

    A K9 dog was deployed to assist with taking the man into custody but was ineffective.

    One officer fired a round, striking the suspect.

    The man was transported to Sunrise Trauma where he is listed in stable condition.

    In San Diego County, California;

    Deputies were serving an eviction notice moments before the shooting, according to SDSO Lt. Glisson.

    San Diego Police Homicide Unit Lt. Mike Holden described the events that led up to the shooting.

    “As they knocked on the door, the occupant who was the target of the eviction told them that if they entered he would arm himself with a handgun,” Holden said.

    Once the deputies entered the apartment’s living room, the man ran into his bedroom and returned with what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun. As he pointed the weapon at them, both deputies fired several rounds at the suspect, Holden said.

    After he was shot, the man retreated back into his bedroom, Holden said. They followed him there and found the suspect with several gunshot wounds.

    The suspect, identified as a 47-year-old man, was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Holden said.

    The handgun that he pointed at officers turned out to be a non-functioning replica.

    From Hillsborough County, Florida;

    Hillsborough County deputies are investigating the fatal shooting of an intruder in a Lakeland home.

    According to deputies, two elderly homeowners were awakened by 33-year-old Shane DeShane in their home at 5436 Deeson Rd., north of Plant City, when the male resident shot DeShane.

    Deputies are conducting interviews and searching the scene.

    From Detroit, Michigan;

    16-year-old Xavier Futrell walked into a west Detroit gas station with a gun Sunday morning and tried to take Darius Summers’ gun. Thinking he was an easy target, Futrell stuck his gun in Summers’ back.

    “I said, ‘All I want to do is leave,’” Summers said. “He said, ‘You can’t leave.’ I said, ‘OK. What do you want to do?’”

    As the teen took control, Summers pulled his gun and shot Futrell twice in the stomach. The boy picked up his gun, which he had dropped, and limped out of the store.

    Summers, who said he had just received his concealed carry license, said he never shot a gun before, but wasn’t shooting to kill Futrell, but “shot to save his life.” He said as a grandfather, he spoke to the teen as if it was his own grandson.

    From Mesa, Arizona, a new strategy to scare off thieves; shoot yourself;

    A spokesperson for Mesa police tells 12 News that a man showing up for work at Cindy’s Café was confronted outside the business by an armed assailant. The victim then pulled out his own handgun in order to defend himself.

    Police believe that gun went off accidentally striking the man in the leg. The armed robber ran off.

    The incident is under investigation. The victim is expected to survive his injury.
