    Friday morning feel good stories

    An update from yesterday’s story from Hobart, Indiana.

    Anthony J. Crenshaw, 20, address unknown, faces nine felony counts, including one charge of murder in perpetration of a robbery, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday in Lake Criminal Court.

    One of four robbery suspects, Jordan Davis, 28, of Indianapolis, suffered a fatal gunshot wound during a gunfire exchange and attempted home invasion, according to law enforcement and the Lake County coroner’s office….The affidavit did not state whether Crenshaw fired the fatal round that hit Davis.

    However, because of Crenshaw’s involvement in the felony, Hobart police said they secured charges against him for murder in perpetration of a robbery, two counts of attempted murder, and one count each of attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, burglary resulting in serious bodily injury, aggravated battery, attempted armed robbery and residential entry.

    From Slidell, Louisiana;

    Police say the homeowner heard a commotion outside, so she opened her front door to investigate. The woman saw a man, identified as 23-year-old, Rakeem Ash, chasing someone down the street.

    Ash then diverted his attention to the homeowner and started running towards her. Before the homeowner could get back inside, Ash charged at her, punched her in the face several times, and forced his way into her home.

    The woman armed herself with a wooden club and began to strike Ash until he was subdued.

    When police arrived, Ash became agitated and began jumping around.

    Police say it was apparent that Ash was under the influence of narcotics and was acting irrational.

    From Mesa County, Colorado, John Daniel Stene killed Travis Carothers last month in what he says was a robbery attempt by Carothers. The prosecutor seems angry that he can’t prove otherwise;

    Mesa County prosecutors will not file murder charges against the man who killed 36-year-old Travis Carothers last month, based on evidence that the shooter was acting in self-defense during an armed robbery attempt.

    Citing an interview that shooting suspect John Daniel Stene, 27, gave law enforcement as well as physical evidence collected at the crime scene and through Carothers’ autopsy, Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein said prosecutors believe they wouldn’t be able to prove to a jury that Stene was not acting in self-defense when he fatally shot Carothers in the 2900 block of N. View Drive late at night on June 17.

    “If he’s not telling the truth, he’s going to convince the jury he is,” Rubinstein said. “There is no way we can disprove self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt.”
