    From LaPlace, Louisiana;

    The unidentified homeowner heard voices in his backyard, and went to investigate.

    When the homeowner opened the backdoor, 27-year-old Kalvin Ferrygood entered the home, according to the SJSO.

    The homeowner shot Ferrygood.

    Responding officers and firefighters administered aid to Ferrygood, and he was transported to a hospital in New Orleans, where he later died of his injuries.

    From Winston-Salem, North Carolina;

    Following an investigation, officers determined that 79-year-old James Thomas Noah and 77-year-old Barbara Ella Melton were in their apartment when there was a knock on the door.

    When Melton opened the door, Reed and an unidentified man forced their way into the residence and began assaulting Noah with a blunt object.

    Eventually, Noah was able to draw his handgun from his waistband and shoot Reed in the head, the release says.

    The unidentified man fled the apartment in an unknown direction.

    Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neil determined that no criminal charges will be sought against Noah.

    26-year-old Lourenco Marcus Reed is being treated for the life-threatening gunshot to his empty head.

    From Phoenix, Arizona;

    Phoenix police report that on Saturday, a man later identified as 44-year-old Virgil Edward Hughes, forced his way into a home near 35th and Dunlap avenues. Police say he broke the door jam and rushed into the home.

    The homeowner reported that he saw a handgun on the Hughes’ hip, grabbed his gun and fired one shot, missing Hughes but hitting the wall.

    Hughes continued running into the home crashing into the door before turning around and running out the front door.

    Police located Hughes in the area and say he was in possession of methamphetamine.

    From Clinton County, New Jersey;

    Cody J. Englert, 30, forced entry into a home at about 1:50 a.m. Wednesday at 925 4th St. in Pine Creek Township, Clinton County. He was shot by a resident of the home and died at the scene. Police said in a release that the resident who shot Englert is cooperating with investigators.

    A story of frontier justice from South Africa when a prisoner escaped from jail and ended up in the hands of vigilantes;

    A notorious armed robber and escaped prisoner was allegedly “executed” by community members at Nodwengu, in Ndewedwe, north of Durban, on Thursday.

    The man, who was among eight prisoners who escaped from the Verulam police cells recently, was a known armed robber who plundered the local community.

    Of the eight who escaped, four were recaptured.

    Superintendent Vasie Naidu said the man’s body had been found in dense bush.

    “A sack had been tied over his head. A single shot from point blank range went right through his head.”

    Naidu said the man was known to be an armed robber and wreaked havoc among members of the community who, it seemed, took revenge.

    From Lake City, South Carolina;

    Two people were shot during a home invasion Monday afternoon on East Myrtle Beach Highway, just outside of Lake City, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

    The two wounded are suspects in the home invasion, according to Major Michael Nunn, with the sheriff’s office.

    Five suspects have been identified in total and three are in custody. The two remaining suspects are being treated at an area hospital for gunshot wounds sustained during the incident, he said.

    I think I wrote about this one from Shreveport, Louisiana yesterday, but I want to play name scrabble;

    Arrested were Tarodganey Sumner, 26, of the 600 block of Bringhurst Drive, and Calvin Horton, 27, of the 500 block of West 76th Street, on burglary and firearms charges.

    The Shreveport Police Department gave this account:

    Just after 11:45 a.m. Monday, in the Southern Hills neighborhood of south Shreveport, a concerned neighbor witnessed two men forcibly entering a house in the 3000 block of Burson Drive.

    Patrol officers and liaison officers were nearby and arrived quickly. One man fled from the residence on foot. A neighbor and his father were in the backyard of another residence when they encountered the man, whom police identified as Sumner, 26.

    The man allegedly aimed a .22-caliber pistol with a silencer at them, prompting the citizen to fire a shot to defend his life and the life of his father. The shot missed the man but caused him to drop his weapon and surrender.

    The neighbor and his father yelled out to officers, who found them and arrested Sumner.

    Horton was found in another neighbor’s yard and arrested.

    Criminals in Chicago, Illinois should be aware – more black women there are getting concealed carry permits, according to the Tribune;

    About 800 black women got a license in 2014, according to Illinois State Police. So far in 2017, nearly 1,400 black women have received a concealed carry permit — already more than all of 2016. In all, more than 4,000 black women have received a concealed carry license in Cook County.

    From Las Vegas, Nevada;

    On Sept. 10, Las Vegas police arrived at a 7-Eleven on 4510 Vegas Valley, near Lamb Boulevard, after reports of and incident between employees and customers. According to reports, 3 people went into the 7-Eleven earlier that night and got into argument with several employees. They left briefly but came back shortly before midnight, at which time another fight broke out.

    That is when police say the clerk shot one of those people in the chest twice. That man, described only as a white man in his 20s, died at the hospital.

    The other two people with the man were arrested for warrants and taking part in the confrontation.

    From Shreveport, Louisiana;

    A homeowner shot at a pair of burglary suspects who were running from police in a southwest Shreveport neighborhood just before noon Monday.

    The man missed — and the suspects kept running — but police rounded them up just before 1 p.m. on Burson Street off Mansfield Road.

    From Harrisburg, Pennsylvania;

    Police say Servando Santos, 23, of the 600 block of West Market Street, was shot after he forcibly entered a home in the 2000 block of Fairway Lane on Sunday, Sept. 10.

    Santos had assaulted a woman about 6 a.m. Sunday on that block, police said. He then walked over to another residence on that block and forced himself in through the front door with a baseball bat, police said.

    The homeowner told Santos he was armed, but Santos continued to go into the residence, and police say several shots were fired, one of which hit Santos in the abdomen.

    Even though he was shot, Santos continued into the home, and police say a brief struggle happened. Family members inside the home were able to subdue Santos until he was taken into custody.

    Santos was given immediate medical attention and was taken to PinnacleHealth Community General Osteopathic Hospital, where he died from his injury, police said.

    From Evans City, Pennsylvania; a homeowner with a holstered weapon had an intruder on the ground waiting for police to arrive when the article was written.

    From Dauphin County, Pennsylvania;

    Police say the suspect forced his way into the home with a baseball bat, and was met by the homeowner who shot him. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

    When officers arrived at the initial callers residence and found an elderly woman suffering from head trauma. She was taken to Hershey Medical Center. Her condition is unknown.

    Police are unsure how the elderly woman became injured, but believe that a domestic dispute occurred between a resident of the home and the suspect.

    From Broward County, Florida;

    Weston homeowners watched on their home security cameras as two burglars crept through their home, 2536 Monterey Court.

    When deputies arrived about 3 a.m. they encountered two teen boys, a spokeswoman from the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

    Deputies shot one of the boys outside the home. He is hospitalized at Broward Health Medical Center with injuries that are not life-threatening.

    The other teen was arrested.

    From San Diego, California;

    A couple were inside their home on the 4600 block of Dwight Street when they heard Gustavo Fernandez, 23, pounding on the front door at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.

    “The suspect broke a window, reached in and opened the front door,” Heims said. “He entered the house and confronted the residents. The male victim stabbed the suspect in the stomach and then ran out of the house. The suspect chased the victim outside.”

    Fernandez continued to chase the homeowner until police arrived and took him into custody.

    From Richland County, South Carolina;

    The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says that around noon, Melvin Strong, 19, and a 16-year-old knocked on the burglary victim’s door. The victim called 911, saying he didn’t recognize the suspects. When he hung up, the two suspects kicked in the victim’s front door.

    Armed with a knife, the victim stabbed the 16-year-old suspect in the upper body. He was driven to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

    Strong is charged with second-degree burglary and malicious injury to real property.

    From Chicago, Illinois;

    A 23-year-old man was wounded Saturday morning when the person he was trying to rob stole his gun from him and shot him in the South Side Gresham neighborhood.

    The turn of events happened about 6:15 a.m. when he walked up to a female and demanded her things in the 8000 block of South Ashland, according to Chicago Police.

    She wrestled the gun away from him and shot him in the hand, police said. He ran away but was soon caught by officers.

    From Mount Auburn, Ohio;

    Cincinnati Police said on Aug. 30, three men attempted to rob the victim on the 100 block of E. McMillan Street. One suspect, 20-year-old Aaron Abernathy, had a handgun that fell out of his coat pocket during a struggle with the victim.

    The victim then picked up the handgun and shot 21-year-old Timothy Andrew in the neck.

    Abernathy and Andrew were arrested and both were charged with aggravated robbery. Timothy’s brother, 20-year-old Tione Andrew, was also arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.

    From Murfreesboro, Tennessee;

    Police say two men were seen stealing from Victoria’s Secret by a private citizen who was armed with a handgun.

    That individual reportedly confronted the burglary suspects outside of the store.

    According to police, those suspects jumped in to a get-a-way car that was driven by a female accomplice.

    As they fled the parking lot, police say the individual who had confronted the suspects, shot one round at the car.

    Two other vehicles in the parking lot were hit by the suspect’s car as it left the lot.

    It was not known if the vehicle or anyone inside it was struck by the bullet.

    In a statement from the Spencer Police Department, “The shooting victim, Nicolas Bandomo, is suspected of illegally gaining entry into the occupied residence of 801 E. 12th St. At that time, Bandomo was prohibited from making contact with the residents at the home by multiple protection orders.

    Bandomo was allegedly shot while inside the residence and then fled to 819 E. 12th St. where emergency personnel made contact with him. Bandomo died at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as a result of the gunshot.

    In the last eight months the deceased had been arrested and had multiple charges filed against him for violation of a no contact order on Aug. 14, domestic abuse assault on June 28, violation of no contact order on June 27, domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury and violation of a no contact order on March 1, domestic abuse assault impeding flow of air/blood and violation of a no contact order on Jan. 29.

    From Los Angeles, California; In a fairly confusing news report that swaps the terms “victim” and “suspect” when it’s politically convenient, a thief was shot in the armpit when he tried to rob a couple. It’s in the title but not in the article “Suspected robber shot in armpit at Woodland Hills apartment complex”

    In Sierra Vista, Arizona;

    A 69-year-old Sierra Vista woman shot a man she says was trying to break into her house Thursday night, just hours after a burglary there, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department said.

    The wounded man, 26, was in critical condition at a Tucson hospital Friday, said Carol A. Capas, a spokeswoman for the department.

    The woman had reported a burglary at the home earlier Thursday. She said a door was damaged and several items were taken from the house, Capas said in a news release.

    About 11 p.m. she called the Sheriff’s Department saying she’d shot a man dressed in dark clothes as he was breaking into the house.

    From Bannock, Idaho;

    The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office reports the shooting occurred during what appears to be a home invasion at a residence on Idaho Highway 40 just west of Downey.

    A man was reportedly forcing his way through the door of the residence around 4:30 a.m. Friday when the man living in the house opened fire, the Sheriff’s Office said. The suspected intruder was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene — prior to the arrival of responding sheriff’s deputies.

    From Cleveland, Ohio;

    The three women, all relatives, broke into the home and fired shots at the couple inside. At least one of the two residents fired back, police said. Investigators are still trying to determine exactly who fired shots during the shootout.

    Police arrived and found all three women still at the house. One of the woman was in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the stomach, according to police. The other two women were inside the home.

    The 32-year-old woman who was shot is the ex-girlfriend of the 32-year-old resident of the home, police said.

    From Baton Rouge, Louisiana;

    Travion D. Springer, 18, walked up behind a man in his yard, held a gun to his head and forced him inside his house to get money just after 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report.

    During the struggle over the gun inside the house, Springer shot the man in the finger, but the man was able to get the weapon from him. The man then lead Springer outside, forced him to lie down and held him at gunpoint until officers arrived, police said.

    From Middletown, Maryland;

    Kristina King, 34, was found suffering from severe lacerations to her face, according to the police report.

    King told officers that two women she did not know attempted to force entry into her residence. As she attempted to hold the door shut, one of the women slashed her face.

    King said she fled to the back her house with an armed woman following.

    Once inside, the suspect, holding the weapon, began walking toward King’s 10-year-old child.

    King told police she retrieved her gun and fired at the woman.

    The suspect fled the residence and area, possibly in a newer dark colored Cadillac STS-type vehicle with tinted windows.

    The moments before the break-in were caught on camera. Kris owns a Ring doorbell, which sends a live feed direct to his cell phone.

    The doorbell has a tiny camera inside, so you get a really good look at the would-be burglars.

    “They’re coming in. There’s no question. They’re coming in,” said Kris.

    The video shows the unwelcome guests ring the doorbell to see if anyone is home.

    “The voice, what he says in there, their demeanor, they’re not here to sell cookies,” explained Kris.

    Kris was inside his home, watching the crooks from his cell phone. Video from the Ring doorbell shows the intruders talking to each other. They appear to be confused by the doorbell.

    In the video, one can be heard saying, “You need an eye scanner? Is that how I get into the house? An eye scanner?”

    Seconds later, the crooks are in Kris’ backyard. Except now, there are four people. Kris pulled out his gun.

    “They had flashlights and I’m basically just seeing silhouettes of their bodies moving around the backyard,” said Kris. “And as soon as one comes two feet into my home, I fire two rounds.”

    Kris said he ran outside and fired two more rounds. The intruders took off and Kris called 911.

    From Tulsa, Oklahoma;

    A man who was shot while allegedly burglarizing a residence in Collinsville area has been jailed.

    Tulsa County deputies booked Kou Yang, 33, into Tulsa Jail early Tuesday afternoon.

    Yang was shot at least twice about 4 a.m. Sept. 1 while allegedly burglarizing a neighbor’s residence, located in the 7800 block of East 131st Street North near Collinsville.

    Yang was booked into the jail on complaints of first-degree burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, trespassing and assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records.

    From Boswell, Indiana;

    Warren County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 1900 block of West 1050 North near Boswell, Indiana, around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a home invasion.

    They arrived to find the home’s owner, William Kellerhals, suffering from minor bumps and bruises from an apparent baseball bat attack.

    Kellerhals told police two suspects kicked in his door and entered his home without permission.

    One of the men allegedly struck Kellerhals with a bat before the homeowner was able to retrieve a gun and fire shots at the fleeing suspects.

    Police said nothing was taken from the home and Kellerhals received only minor injuries.

    From Newport, Kentucky;

    Officers were called to E-Z Cash Pawn in the 600 block of Monmouth Street in Newport on Wednesday afternoon.

    Two suspects tried to rob the business, when the owner shot one of the suspects in the arm, according to Newport Police Chief Tom Collins.

    The owner described the suspects’ getaway car to police, and officers began following the vehicle.

    The pair crashed the getaway car in an alley off of 8th Street and took off running.

    One suspect was taken into custody at that time, police said. He was wearing a wig.

    The other suspect, who had been shot, tried to get into a house on Maple Avenue. Police said he threw money and a gun on the roof of the residence.

    Investigators tracked the suspect by a trail of blood, found him and took him into custody without incident.

    From Cleveland, Ohio;

    Arthur Giles, one of the owners of the Taco Bell on West 117th Street in the city’s Edgewater neighborhood, said police have not told the owners exactly who shot the robber.

    “Everyone at the store is okay, from my understanding,” Giles said. “All the employees and all the customers are safe.”

    Officials have not yet identified the robber who died. Cleveland police have not released additional details about the shooting.

    Police dispatch records say two armed robbers with bandanas around their faces walked into the restaurant about 2:45 a.m. They tried to rob the store, but one of the robbers was shot in the ribs, according to police dispatch records.

    Employees told dispatchers someone fired shots, and that one of the robbers ended up on the ground.

    Added; In an update to the Taco Bell story, apparently three of the employees shot at the crooks.
