    From Marion County, South Carolina;

    [Marion County Sheriff Brian] Wallace said three people confronted the homeowner, then left the house.

    He added homeowner pursued the burglars and that’s when one of them fired several shots at the homeowner.

    The homeowner fired back, Wallace said.

    No one was injured.

    From Mobile, Alabama, this fellow is on the run after escaping from the hospital;

    Tomichael Tate is wanted for burglary. Police say he broke into a woman’s home on Charmingdale Drive East and assaulted her. But she fought back.

    “She actually was able to get a gun, a 22 caliber rifle, at which time her and Mr. Tate struggled over the rifle. During the struggle, Mr. Tate was actually struck, the rifle actually went off and he was struck with it,” with Mobile Police spokesperson Officer Donald Wallace.

    Police say when he went to the hospital, Tate lied to investigators about what happened.

    From College Park, Georgia;

    Detectives said two masked males went into the restaurant, robbed the business and took items belonging to both workers and customers.

    Investigators said the robbers fled the restaurant and headed toward the back of the building. That’s when workers and diners heard gunfire. Responding officers found one man dead near a dumpster.

    Police told FOX 5 the dead man’s body had items stolen from inside the restaurant, leading them to believe he was one of the robbers.

    The other suspect got away. Investigators don’t have a good description because he was wearing a mask. Detectives hope surveillance video helps them determine if the robber who escaped shot his accomplice.

    From Pickens County, South Carolina, good news for a man there;

    Hashe detailed the Sept. 12 death of Henry Hugh Thomas, 39, in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

    He said detectives have interviewed everyone who was in the home on Walker Street in Easley at the time of the shooting. Investigators said Thomas went into the home at about 8 p.m. through a door that was closed by not locked. They said Thomas was a stranger to the homeowner and four other adults who were in the home.

    The people in the home said when they questioned Thomas, he pulled out a .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun that he pointed at them at fired two shots. Two of the man scuffled with Thomas, and another guest, James Christopher Murphy, retrieved a .9 mm. handgun that belonged to the homeowner that he fired twice, hitting Thomas in the upper and lower torso.

    Witnesses said that when he was shot, Thomas was still holding the weapon that he had brought to the scene and was still actively fighting the men who were trying to disarm him.

    Hashe said that Thomas dropped his weapon after he was wounded and was held on the floor until authorities arrived. He later died from his injuries during surgery at a local hospital.

    From Springfield, Illinois;

    Springfield police say officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of East Keyes Street at about 12:44 p.m. for a reported home invasion. Upon arriving, officers say they spoke with a man who said he shot someone after they forced their way into his house.

    Police also say the suspect was later dropped off at Memorial Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound. Officers add that the suspect is currently in stable condition.

    From Sacramento, California;

    Sacramento police say they found two 15-year-old boys who had been shot. Both teens were taken to the hospital, but one was later pronounced dead.

    Wednesday, based on their preliminary information, detectives say the teens look to have been in the area in order to commit a home invasion robbery. Detectives have not said how they have come to that conclusion.

    Detectives say they have identified the people involved in the incident believe case to be isolated. The incident is not believed to be gang-related.

    The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the boy killed as Tamir Williams.

    From Killeen, Texas;

    Instead, police say, a would-be robber attempted to break into a residence, but the homeowner tried to fight him off outside the home.

    During the fight, the robber fired a single shot that struck the tire of a nearby vehicle.

    Then a woman who also lived in the home turned her pit bull loose on the man.

    The dog attacked the would-be robber, who fled with some witnesses in pursuit.

    The witnesses directed officers to Florence Road, where they arrested the would-be robber, whom paramedics treated at the scene for a dog bite.

    A convenience store clerk in Cincinnati, Ohio is breathing easier tonight;

    Hananiah Israel, 34, entered Sam’s Quick Market on Harrison Avenue in South Fairmount at about 9:30 p.m. Sept. 20. He pointed a pistol at the clerks and demanded money, according to Deters.

    One of the clerks threw cash across the counter while the other shouted for Israel to put down the gun, according to Deters. The clerk then fired one shot, hitting Israel.

    He later died at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, [Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe] Deters said.

    Deters said Wednesday he was not even taking the case to a grand jury.

    “If you enter a store with a weapon to rob it, you have forfeited your right not to be shot,” he said. “And these clerks were lucky they weren’t victims themselves. They were clearly defending themselves.”

    From Dayton, Ohio;

    Officers went to the house on Anna Street just after 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday on a report of a burglary in progress.

    When officers arrived, they spoke with the homeowner, who said he heard a loud noise near his front door.

    He also described seeing a flashlight inside the hallway of his home.

    The homeowner, who had a CCW permit, fired his gun at the suspect.

    The suspect left and dropped a cell phone inside the house.

    Police arrived on the scene and searched the area.

    Officers found [28-year-old Dawane] Kelso near a house less than one block from the location of the break-in attempt. After making contact with Kelso, he was arrested just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

    Kelso is being held in the Montgomery County Jail. A report from the Dayton Police Department indicates preliminary charges of burglary and aggravated burglary.

    Police at the scene told 2 NEWS a man was found in an alley near the home on Anna St. shortly after the report of shots being fired. That man had a gunshot wound to the leg, and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.

    Authorities have not indicated if Kelso was the person found with a gunshot wound.

    From Garden City, Utah;

    The man police believe is responsible for shooting an elderly couple in a Utah trailer park may have been killed by return fire, according to the Rich County Sheriff’s Office.

    The release said officers arrived at a call and found the man dead inside a vehicle that had crashed into the side of a trailer home near Garden City, Utah, southwest of Bear Lake. Inside of the trailer home police found an elderly couple, with gunshot wounds.

    Police said investigators believe that during the attack, as gunfire was exchanged, the suspect was shot and killed. A preliminary investigation, according to police, indicates the couple shot back in self defense.

    From Columbus, Ohio;

    The teen was fleeing from the back of a Franklinton home after police were called by the homeowner who witnessed the break-in via his camera alarm at 12:16 p.m. on Thursday.

    His accomplice fled and was able to run away. The teen exited through a privacy gate and ran smack into a Columbus police sergeant, who swiftly took him into custody.

    “Unfortunately for the suspect I was running eastbound through the same yard and the suspect literally ran into a brick wall — me — and fell to the ground right (in front of me). (I) was able to handcuff him without incident,” Sgt. Matthew Weekely wrote in a division Facebook post.

    The teen is now facing a burglary charge.

    In terms of the brick wall reference, “Sarge is fairly large — one might say comparable to Incredible Hulk,” according to the post.

    Phil’s summary sheet shows that he served both on active and reserve duty and left the Navy as an E-3. A total of 3 years, 11 months and 28 days of active duty, with reserves a total of 6 years, 5 months and 20 days. On the summary sheet, it shows Phil being assigned to the USS Independence CV-62, he has no Combat Action Ribbon or the SEAL designation. No record of Phil attending BUD/S or being stationed at a SEAL Team. Phil was never in BUD/S class 102, that class graduated a few years before Phil joined the Navy.

    In Jefferson County, Alabama, Horace Stokes has been charged in the murder of his accomplice, Stephen Douglas Crump, when Crump was killed by a homeowner in their home invasion on September 15th;

    Information at the scene was that the male homeowner and a friend were in a side room of the home visiting. Two armed men forced their way into the door and tried to rob them. The homeowner and his friend began fighting with the suspects. The homeowner was struck in in the head with a handgun.

    During the struggle, a shot was fired. Crump was struck and fell to the floor. The second suspect – now identified as Stokes – fled to a waiting vehicle and was driven away by a third unknown suspect. The suspect vehicle was described as a full sized gray Ford pickup.

    From Hattiesburg, Mississippi;

    Police say a teenage suspect was fatally shot in an apparent home invasion in Mississippi.

    Hattiesburg police told WDAM-TV that they believe the homeowner shot 17-year-old Justin Woodland on Sunday night. Authorities say no charges are being filed against the homeowner and the case will be presented to a grand jury.

    From Bridgeville, Delaware;

    Police said a man called 911 late Sunday night and said a suspect had been shot inside his home. When troopers arrived, they found an unresponsive man with a gunshot wound to his upper torso in the kitchen area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Sussex County paramedics.

    Police said a preliminary investigation shows that a man was alone inside the house when two men broke in. They said one of the suspects — who was armed with a handgun — was shot during a struggle. The second suspect fled. The male resident was uninjured.

    From Shreveport, Louisiana;

    A Shreveport man was dressed as a female when he was shot by a homeowner during an alleged burglary, authorities said.

    Investigators said 64-year-old Donald Weaver arrived at his home in the 1400 block of Oxford Street just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

    When he found his property was being burglarized, he confronted the intruder and shot him once in his chest with a handgun.

    Investigators said 26-year-old Jarico Carter was taken to University Health for treatment of a gunshot wound described as life-threatening.

    The homeowner was released without being charged.

    From Grand Rapids, Michigan;

    A person came into the shop about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 and demanded cash.

    After the robbery, an employee came running out of business, screaming for help.

    Brian Triplett and his wife had just parked their car across the street at the Bagel Beanery and intended to go inside to view an ArtPrize entry painted by a relative.

    Triplett heard the commotion, grabbed his .40 caliber handgun from the car and gave chase across the street. Triplett has the registered weapon for “open carry” purposes.

    He chased the robber into a parking lot adjacent to the cleaners. That’s when the robber turned toward him and pointed what appeared to be a gun at him.

    The robber was about 10 yards away.

    Triplett said he fired one round at the robber but did not hit him.

    “He turned around and pointed a weapon,” Triplett said, explaining why he fired.

    Police confiscated his handgun but he expects to get it back at some point.

    From Raytown, Missouri;

    Police say a homeowner walked in on a burglar in his home. The suspect took out a handgun and fired shots at the homeowner.

    The homeowner fired shots back, and the suspect ran outside to a vehicle where a second suspect was waiting. Both suspects fled the scene.

    Police say no one was injured in the incident.

    From Lemay, Missouri;

    A 19-year-old and a 14-year-old attempting to break into a residence in the 300 block of Shadwell Drive, at the Jefferson Townhomes complex south of Jefferson Barracks, were “confronted by the homeowner and shot,” police said.

    Officers from the St. Louis County Police Department’s South County Precinct responded to the 911 call for help at roughly 6:45 a.m. today.
    Pronounced dead at the scene was Demarcus Boxley, 19, who had been shot at least once. Boxley lived in the 3100 block of Nebraska Avenue in St. Louis, 63118.
    Soon after the call off Shadwell was dispatched to officers, South County Precinct officers responded to the 2600 block of Elk Hill for a 14-year-old male who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound whom they first identified as a victim, but later classified as a suspect.
    That suspect ran to that address after being shot in the 300 block of Shadwell. Both addresses are connected to the initial shooting off Shadwell, police said.

    The teenager was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

    From Saint Paul, Minnesota;

    A 35-year-old woman reported she was washing dishes when a man suddenly appeared in the home’s breezeway and pointed a rifle at her through the doorway, Ernster said.

    The woman’s husband heard her scream, ran to her and then saw the intruder. He stepped in front of his wife and said, “What do you want?” according to Ernster. The intruder replied, “I want the money — all of it,” while pointing the gun at them.

    The couple told the man he could get money out of a drawer, but he became agitated when he found no cash, Ernster said.

    The homeowner then grabbed the rifle and the two fought over it and fell to the ground. The firearm went off twice and one round went into the garage, Ernster said. The homeowner was able to get the rifle from the assailant briefly and struck him in the head with it.

    The struggle continued and the intruder tried to get up and run with the rifle, but the homeowner tackled him in the street. The intruder escaped and still had the weapon when he was last seen running east on California Avenue, Ernster said.

    From Bridgeview, Illinois;

    Three friends accused in a plot to rob and beat a wealthy 65-year-old Palos homeowner who ended up shooting one of their friends dead, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder before Cook County Judge Stephen Connolly. Brandy Marshall, 20, her 21-year-old sister Paige, and Tyler Gulli, 24, accepted an offer that would allow them to get out of prison before their fortieth birthdays in exchange for a guilty plea. Brandy and Paige Marshall’s young children will be grown when their mothers are released from prison.

    From Hammond, Indiana;

    A man died Friday morning after he was shot while apparently attempting to rob several people in a home in the 6400 block of Woodward Avenue, police said.

    The man, who has not yet been identified, reportedly entered the home’s front door just before 7:30 a.m. and told several people he knew of a safe inside and intended to rob them, police Lt. Steve Kellogg said.

    Witnesses told police they believed the man had a gun, Kellogg said.

    The man led three people to a room in the basement. As he led the three out, a fourth person — who had been in another room — confronted the man and shot him multiple times, police said.

    The people in the home called police and are cooperating, Kellogg said.

    From Bridgeport, Connecticut;

    Police say two suspects entered a home at 903 Kossuth St. around 5 p.m. with the intention of robbing someone.

    The homeowner shot one of the suspects, who was wearing a mask, according to authorities. They say the two suspects then fled in a pickup truck that police pulled over at Barnum and Central avenues.

    One suspect was arrested and the other was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for injuries from the shooting.

    From Marion, Virginia;

    Police say they received a report of a possible breaking and entering at a residence.

    When crews arrived at the scene, they said that the resident of the home was still at the scene.

    Officials say that early investigations show that shots had been fired and one person was reported injured.

    The suspect was later found by police suffering from two gunshot wounds. The individual was then taken into custody and transported to Smyth County Community Hospital.

    Police say he is reported to be in serious, but stable condition.

    From Pensacola, Florida;

    The man broke through the front door of the Pensacola Village Apartments building around 5:30 a.m., according to Pensacola Police Department spokesman Mike Wood. The occupant inside was the suspect’s ex-girlfriend, who Wood said was in fear for her life and shot the intruder in the leg.
