  • Friday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story comes from Memphis and it was actually last week, but we can still celebrate, can’t we?

    The homeowner called 911 when he heard the glass of a back room window break. But before officers could arrive, the two suspects were already inside the home; that’s when the homeowner decided to take action.

    He shot at the intruders, injuring one of them.

    That suspect was later found about a block away and taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

    Authorities are still looking for the second suspect who fled the scene.

    This type of incident is common in the area of Hickory Hill, says resident and neighbor Audrienne Owens, who lives only a few houses down. Owens said someone tried to break into her home through the back door in broad daylight a while ago. The homeowner, she says, acted within his rights.

    “It’s your property, you should have the right to do it, cause you work hard for your things, you really do,” she told WREG.

    Another female resident, who didn’t want to be identified, agreed.

    “It’s not you taking the law in your hands; it’s exercising your right as a citizen,” she said. “If you’re foolish enough to put your life on the line, I’m not. I want to live.” That female resident also said her gun is always loaded and she is ready to protect herself.

    Yup, I don’t have anything in my home worth dying for, but you will.

  • Thursday feel good story

    Today’s feel good story comes from Virginia where 76-year-old former paratrooper, Leon Winder, who called 911 when he heard noises in his house. The police searched the premises but found nothing. Leon kept looking though;

    It was shortly after that, while officers searched the area, that Winder, a former Army Airborne soldier, went into his barbershop attached to his home.

    “I saw a coat on the floor and I looked to pick the coat up. I looked to my left to get the coat up and the guy was standing in the closet,” Winder recalled.

    Winder said fired twice and hit the man in the arm.

    “He didn’t say nothing. I was firing on him he couldn’t say nothing,” he said.

    That’s when the suspect, identified by police as 37-year-old John Buck Fields, ran out and was caught by police.

    All the way, Leon!

    Chief Tango sends us links to two more feel good stories. The first is from Toledo where Antione Garret heard Randy Estrada breaking into his house, so Garret went to confront the burglar;

    Garret fired his handgun several times, until Estrada climbed back out the window and ran away.

    A short time later, Estrada called 911 to report that he had been shot and was taken to a Toledo hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive his injuries.

    “If someone’s breaking into your house and you fear for your safety, you have the right to defend yourself and your family. And in this case, that’s what we believe Mr. Garret has done,” said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

    The next story comes from the mean streets of Chicago where 25-year-old Demarcus Brandon decided that he needed a new cell phone so he went to the neighborhood cell phone store and tried to rob the place. The clerk, however had a different goal in mind and he killed young Brandon dead right there.

    Police said there was an exchange of gunfire between Brandon and the clerk, though it’s not clear who shot first.

    Brandon was paroled from the Shawnee Correctional Center this summer, where he had been serving concurrent 3-year and 13-year sentences, according to Illinois Department of Corrections and Cook County Court records.

    The 13-year sentence stemmed from an incident in Chicago in which Brandon was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, gun possession, aggravated fleeing from police, and having either a rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches or shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches.

    Another perp broke his ankle while he was scattin’ out of the AO.

  • Wednesday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good morning story to enjoy with our coffee and muffin today, this time it’s from Tennessee where Jaden Archer agreed to buy some tablets from Calvin Ward and met him in a local parking lot. It looks like Ward didn’t have any tablets;

    At some point, the two men sat inside the same car when Ward allegedly pulled a gun on Archer and demanded his money. The two men got into a fist fight when [Ward’s accomplice Galen] Allen allegedly attempted to pull Archer out of the vehicle then knocked him down while Archer was fighting for his life.

    Archer, who is a lawful gun owner and carrier retrieved his firearm and fatally shot Ward.

    Allen reportedly jumped into a gray van and pulled out a handgun. Fearing for his life, Archer reportedly fired into the driver side window of the van where he struck Allen in the upper back.

    Allen reportedly sped off in the van which was eventually located with blood in the driver’s seat and shattered glass.

    Ward has met his reward, while Allen is being held on $470,000 bond. So, all’s well that ends well.

    In Ohio, Michael “Meatball” Burns faces murder and manslaughter charges in the death of his accomplice in an attempt to rob homeowner of his scrap metal. Roy Hahn, the homeowner, responded by shooting through his door and killing 36-year-old Terry Allen. Meatball was struck by the bullet that passed through Allen.

    Assistant county prosecutor Chris Becker has said that even though it was the intended victim who pulled the trigger, Burns and others involved can be charged with murder because they were committing a felony during which someone died.

    […]

    Becker said Hahn admitted snorting cocaine the night before the shooting, but Robbins said Hahn didn’t appear to be at all intoxicated the night of the attempted burglary and shooting.

    Allen, who was wearing camouflage clothing, was found with a crowbar still in his gloved hands.

    Allen’s wife, Nichole, 35, of Mineral Ridge, and Mindy Sierra, 32, of McDonald, face the same charges as Burns and Crislip and they had left the scene of the shooting after dropping off the three men.

    Charges for everyone, except the good guy with a gun.

  • Monday morning feel good story

    Richard sends us our feel good story this morning which happened in California. Two men identifying themselves as sheriff’s deputies forced their way in the house of a former sheriff’s deputy and were met with a hail of gunfire;

    The men donned white ski masks when they broke into two homes in separate Lancaster neighborhoods within a matter of minutes Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

    In the first attempted robbery, the men falsely identified themselves as sheriff’s deputies to a man and his son. Upon entering the home on Avenue K-15, they forced the two down onto the ground, but then left the home, officials said.

    In the second home invasion just moments later, the men unknowingly forced their way into the home of a former deputy of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lancaster Station.

    The former deputy fired shots at the men but missed, officials said. The two fled the scene and are still being sought by authorities.

    “It is scary, because you never know how safe you are,” neighbor Alice Baldus said.

    Officials warned residents to always question people identifying themselves as sheriff’s deputies or police officers.

    Actually, that’s the exact scenario that I’ve been anticipating from a certain fellow who likes to pretend that he’s law enforcement. It’s unfortunate the former deputy has let his marksmanship skills deteriorate since he left the department. He needs some more range time so the police don’t have to search very far for the perps.

  • Supplemental Feel Good Story

    Ohio sends us a link from an additional feel good story, this one from Houston, where three men tried to break into a home. The disturbance woke the residents who came to check out the noise. But one of the criminals was a bit butter-fingered and dropped his piece;

    The suspects took off running, and one of them dropped his gun. The male who lives on the property picked up the gun, and the other suspects opened fire on him, deputies said. The man returned fire, shooting one of the alleged crooks in the head.

    “Well, he got what he deserved,” said Steven Hooker, who works nearby.

    The suspect died at the scene while the other two got away.

    See, that’s why I invest in Pachmayer grips for all of my guns.

  • Sunday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story comes from Texas where a homeowner made it easy for the police to trail the thief once he left the property;

    It was just before 5 a.m. when the homeowner, whose name has not been released, was awakened by a security alarm. The man grabbed a flashlight and armed himself with shotgun before going to see what the commotion was about.

    Meanwhile, the man’s wife called 911.

    As the homeowner walked upon the detached garage he saw the suspect, who was later identified as 58-year-old George Rodriguez Diaz. There are conflicting reports concerning whether or not Diaz then attempted to flee the scene.

    Nonetheless, the homeowner gave Diaz verbal commands to stop but he didn’t. According to the police, for reasons which have not been given, the homeowner said he felt threatened by the suspect so he opened fire, shooting several rounds and striking the suspect two times.

    Diaz then fled the scene, but when police arrived a short time later, they simply followed a trail of blood two houses down into a side alley where they found the suspect. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains in stable condition.

  • Saturday morning feel good story

    Fill up your coffee cup and then come back to enjoy it with this morning’s feel good story, sent to us by Chief Tango, and this time it occurred in Michigan where a homeowner encoutered a man in his basement when he came home;

    The homeowner fired a handgun at the intruder who then fled the scene. The homeowner contacted police, who began to canvass the area. No injuries were reported.

    A detailed description of the intruder was not immediately available.

    Mr. Homeowner, you are a ‘no go’ at this station. You need more range time. Stop by and I’ll loan you some ammo – I’m pretty sure that I have your caliber.

  • Friday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story to enjoy with your doughnut and coffee today, this one from Texas, where a Craigslist meet up to transfer ownership of a motorcycle turned into a gun fight;

    The man told police that Grimes then pulled a gun on the man and told him to get on the ground. At the same time, the man’s father got out of their pickup to check on his son, according to the affidavit. When Grimes turned his attention to the father, the man pulled a pistol out of his pocket and got off four shots, police said.

    Bullets struck Grimes, who fled, police said. The man and his family hurried back to Saginaw and called police. Grimes also called police from a different location. He said he had been shot twice by an unknown man. He was hospitalized.
