    Monday morning feel good story

    Our story this morning comes from Florida where you should only hail a cab, if a ride is all you want;

    According to police, a 36-year-old man and his 34-year-old male relative, both known to the 51-year-old male cab driver as a result of frequent calls for transportation, hailed the cab and allegedly attempted to rob the driver at knifepoint.

    The cab driver, in an effort to protect himself, retrieved his firearm and shot the 36-year-old man.

    The driver told police that the subject and his accomplice fled the area after he fired his weapon.

    Officers at the scene observed evidence that someone was injured and followed a blood trail to the area of the suspected 36-year-old’s residence.

    Both men were located by officers and the driver identified the suspect as the person who held him at knifepoint.

    Sebastian police attempted to offer medical assistance and requested emergency medical services for further treatment, according to police.

    The man died as a result of his injuries en route to the hospital.

    Sebastian police did not give information about any injuries to the cab driver or the suspect’s family member.

    This morning’s story comes from Mississippi and it takes two articles to tell the story because English is a lost language among journalists down there, I guess. First from WREG;

    Bernice Watson was having a cookout when she said she heard what she believed to be a Hummer pulling into her driveway, and then saw two men walked up with a gun.

    She stumbled as someone shoved her inside to safety.

    “Yeah, I heard the pops. I head the gun when it popped. It said boom,” she described.

    When she came out, two men were dead on her lawn.

    Next from MyFOXMemphis;

    District Attorney John Champion said he’s not releasing the victims’ names but family and friends identified them as Wayland Bownes and Recco Leland. They were shot at a Shiloh Road home in Courtland, Mississippi, during a cookout.

    Champion told FOX13 the shootout stemmed from a fight over the weekend involving a boy who lives at the Shiloh home and a group of other guys.

    The two victims showed up at the home Wednesday night, pulled out a gun and the boy who lives at the home shot and killed them. Because of the “Castle Doctrine”, there will be no charges in this case.

    See, you needed two articles to squeeze the details out of that one, didn’t you?

    Friday morning feel good stories

    Our first story comes from Florida where the best way to get a girlfriend to like you again is to kick in her door and threaten physical violence;

    According to Orlando police, the ex-boyfriend attempted to break through a glass door and enter the apartment while yelling threats to the woman. Their relationship ended six months ago, police said.

    The woman’s current boyfriend and a 4-year-old child were also in the home, police said.

    After telling the ex to leave several times, the trio said they feared for their safety and the boyfriend fired two shots at the ex, striking him in the upper leg, police said.

    The ex fled on foot and was found at a nearby Burger King, police said.

    On to North Carolina where two brothers damaged a man’s SUV for some stupid reason and they were paid back for their efforts in lead;

    Alijah Jackson and Caleb Jackson, who both live at 4583 West Bandys Cross Road, allegedly began damaging a vehicle parked on the property of their neighbor Joshua Edwards, who lives at 4589 West Bandys Cross Road, Wednesday evening.

    Reid said one brother shattered the window of an SUV parked in Edwards’ driveway using a hammer. According to Reid, Edwards told the brothers to leave, but they would not. He alleged one brother then attempted to rip a .270 rifle out of his hands.

    Edwards told deputies both brothers threatened to kill him. After firing a warning shot, Edwards’ shot both brothers, one that was about five feet away from him, in the lower extremities.

    …a Catawba County magistrate found no probable cause to charge Edwards’ in connection to the shooting…

    Thursday morning feel good stories

    Our first story this morning happened in Nevada where, I guess, they try to make people dance like in the old Three Stooges cowboy scenes;

    D’Vontae D’Shawn Richard, 22, approached Kinard because he believed [Kirsten] Kinard had stolen the gold chain from him about two weeks earlier.

    Richard tried to snatch the necklace from Kinard’s neck and the two began to wrestle, the arrest report said.

    [Eric] Blake, who police said has a concealed carry permit and a registered handgun, drew his gun from his hip when Richard grabbed Kinard. The man who was with Richard also pulled out a gun, and both men fired several rounds, according to the arrest report.

    Blake told police he emptied his magazine, which held about 15 rounds, and thought he hit one of the robbers. He didn’t know where the rest of his rounds went, the report said.

    One of Blake’s bullets hit Richard in his right calf, the arrest report said.

    Kinard tried to crawl away when he saw the robber’s gun, but was shot in the pelvic area and fingers. Blake was shot in his right ankle. The car wash employee, who had been detailing Kinard’s car, was hit in the right foot, the arrest report said.

    Richard told police in an interview that he initially thought Kinard’s necklace was the same one that was stolen from him weeks earlier.

    But now Richard thinks he had it all wrong and Kinard was not the person who stole his necklace, he told detectives.

    In Georgia;

    Once on the scene, according to a media release, deputies were contacted by Lynette and John Jackson. They went to the mobile home park to check on Hubert Brady, who lives in the park, and found him lying on the floor. As the Jacksons were trying to help Brady, they say a man by the name of John Ferguson came inside the home. They didn’t know Ferguson and told deputies he was acting “crazy” and was very aggressive. John Jackson told Ferguson to leave, but when we moved towards Lynette, Jackson grabbed a gun that belonged to his wife and shot Ferguson.

    In New Jersey, the women don’t shoot as well as they should, but they shoot well enough;

    A 36-year-old woman heard noises outside her house, followed by banging on the rear door. While the door was being forced open, the woman fired a shot from a handgun, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

    About eight minutes later, Varn said, police received a call about a man shot on Eastburn Avenue.

    Police were able to place the man, Jermoine Morris, 35, of Trenton, at the Sheridan Avenue residence earlier, Varn said.

    First up this morning is Indiana, the land of TSO;

    According to IMPD officials, police responded to the report of a person shot at Abington Apartments. Police said two men entered the apartment unit and one of them fired shots. The victim returned fire.

    The suspects fled the scene. Police said a man fitting one of the suspects descriptions showed up to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital with a gun shot wound. Police have not confirmed if he is one of the suspects.

    There were a total of three people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting and none were injured, police said.

    Neighbors were frustrated after learning about the invasion. “What gives you the right to go in someone’s house?” asked a woman did not want to be identified.

    Next up is Texas where you’re not allowed to undo your crime;

    According to Sgt. Michael Miller of Bellmead PD, a man witnessed another man stealing tools from a truck in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The witness called police and approached the burglar, who began returning tools to the truck after he learned police were on the way.

    The burglar then got into his own vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. The witness told him to stop because police were on their way. The burglar then reversed his vehicle toward the witness, threatening to hit him, at which point the witness fired one round into the back window of the burglar’s vehicle. The shooter has his concealed carry permit.

    Neither the shooter or the attempted burglar were injured in the incident.

    Tuesday morning feel good stories

    The first story this morning happened in Missouri where a woman had to shoot her neighbor in self-defense;

    When they arrived on scene, authorities found Clint Collins, also from Annada, dead.

    In a statement from the Sheriff’s office, they believe the shooter to be the homeowner and, so far, police believe he acted in self defense.

    Sandy Couch lives on the river and says just about an hour before the shooting she watched Collins and his family float by in the small tributary of the river.

    “I’m sad about it, two weeks ago he cut my willow tree we laughed we talked, he talked about taking the boys out fishing,” Couch said. “His girlfriend and his children going down river toward his home at a slow speed and I waved at them and they waved back.”

    The next story comes from Upstate New York;

    The investigation has revealed that at approximately 1:37 a.m., the owner of the residence was sitting near a campfire with two female subjects when he observed a male subject standing behind the residence.

    Troopers said the homeowner retrieved a .223/.20 gauge shotgun rifle combination from his residence and returned to area where he last saw the subject.

    Upon locating the unknown male subject, a physical altercation ensued where the homeowner was stabbed several times in the left shoulder with an unknown weapon. The homeowner responded by discharging one round from the long gun in the direction of the subject as he was fleeing the scene into a wooded area.

    The injuries suffered by the homeowner were superficial and he declined medical attention at the scene.

    New York needs more range time, whereas Missouri has found just the right balance.

    In Texas, a fellow decided that he’d clean out the local Radio Shack one more time before they go out of business, but his get away wasn’t as clean as he would have liked;

    No threat was made, and no weapon was displayed. Before employees could react, the thief ran out the door, clutching the purloined goods.

    And then he encountered a customer preparing to walk in. It was a Harris County deputy, looking for some bargains after his extra job shift ended.

    “He thought a robbery had just happened, when he saw the man running out the door. He ordered the man to stop.”

    The command was not followed. Police say the suspect jumped into a waiting car. The deputy stood his ground in front of the vehicle.

    “Then he saw that the engine was running and a driver was behind the wheel. The car started coming at him, and that’s when he fired his gun,” said HPD public information officer Kese Smith.

    The deputy fired two shots; at least one struck the theft suspect. The driver wasn’t injured and was arrested. The wounded man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital.

    In Florida, a potential victim learned that even if you don’t “stand your ground” that doesn’t make you safe, either;

    According to authorities, an armed man approached a person at 2325 NW 65 Street. The victim took off running on foot and the thief reportedly opened fire.

    The person being shot at allegedly returned fire, hitting the robber several times.

    The armed thief was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center and was listed in stable condition.

    In Maryland, Alex Christopher Finnerty, an escaped prisoner learned that not everyone in that state is unarmed when he broke free of corrections officer and encountered a private citizen;

    Sheriff’s deputies, corrections officers, Maryland State Police, Centreville police, Natural Resources Police, MSP Aviation and Annapolis Police Department responded for the search, which included K-9 units, two helicopters and two SWAT teams, Patrick said.

    Several of the dogs tracked Finnerty’s scent toward the Hope Road area. About 4:30 p.m., a homeowner found signs of entry into his house and spotted Finnerty; he confronted Finnerty with a shotgun and Finnerty tried to flee, Patrick said.

    The homeowner fired a warning shot that attracted search teams, which arrived to see Finnerty running away, Patrick said.

    The good citizen loaned the officers his four-wheeler, which one deputy used successfully to run the prisoner down. So, all’s well that ends well.
