    Sterling Orlando Scott tries scamming judge

    Sterling-Orlando-Scott

    Sterling Orlando Scott was a staff sergeant in the Army and he has at least one Afghanistan rotation. We’ve written about him twice, once last year when he was arrested in Maryland for trying to rip off the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance Program while he was posing as an Army Sergeant Major, and once again this month when he was sentenced in Virginia for trying to scam the Army Emergency Relief Fund. TSO sends us a link to the Virginian-Pilot which reports that during the sentencing for his latest crime, he tried to scam the judge. Begging for leniency, he told the judge that he had been injured in an IED attack and that his best friend had died in his arms in Afghanistan in 2011.

    But Scott’s military record shows no sign of a Purple Heart, which would typically be awarded to a soldier wounded in action, or a Combat Infantryman Badge, which would typically be awarded to a soldier who fought in active ground combat. And in an interview, one of Scott’s former Army supervisors said his staff could find no evidence Scott was injured in any such explosion.

    “We could find no record of any combat injury,” said Sgt. Maj. LeRoy Haugland, who supervised Scott in 2012 and 2013 while working with a Warrior Transition Battalion in Fort Bliss, Texas. “No evacuation from Iraq for combat injuries. No record of any ordeal like that.”

    […]

    Scott’s attorney, however, defended his client in an interview. Kevin Pettrey said he knew before the sentencing hearing that Scott didn’t have a Purple Heart, but he believed that was because of how his client was discharged last year from the Army.

    He was busted from Staff Sergeant to Private for scamming AER while he was still in the Army. This was after two tours of Iraq and the last to Afghanistan.

    Scott didn’t specify from the stand where his Humvee was blown up, only saying it happened in 2011.

    That would have been when Scott was in Afghanistan, but Pettrey said his client told him the explosion occurred in Iraq. Haugland said Scott told him he was injured in Baghdad, and court documents indicate Scott told at least one law enforcement officer a similar story.

    […]

    While undergoing treatment, Scott said his doctors prescribed him Percocet, morphine and other painkillers. He said he became addicted to the drugs, which he blamed for most of his legal troubles the past three years.

    “The medications change you,” he said. “It alters you.”

    Yeah, well, even that’s true in Scott’s case, there are thousands of war veterans who take their meds everyday and they don’t try to take things that aren’t theirs.

    In all, Scott stole more than $11,000 from the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, documents said.

    “I felt like after all I’d been through, someone owed me,” Scott said from the witness stand.

    No one owes me anything that I didn’t earn.

    Air Force Academy ignores Mikey and the MRFF

    Air Force Academy

    A few weeks ago the mis-named Military Religious Freedom Foundation and their founder, Air Force Academy grad, Mikey Weinstein has been complaining about cadets on the football team who took advantage of the freedom to practice their religion and prayed before a game. From the Chatanoogan;

    “It’s a disgrace. It’s a putrid example of fundamentalist Christian supremacy, triumphalism and exceptionalism and it has to stop,” Mr. Weinstein said.

    “Those individuals that are dressed in the Air Force uniform, that’s their uniform of the day. They’re members of the military and they are under different rules than the civilian counterparts they’re playing on the field,” he charged, causing the Air Force to immediately call for a Board of Inquiry.

    Because the MFers aren’t about religious freedom at all. Well, just before Christmas, the Air Force Academy responded;

    “Recently the United States Air Force Academy received a complaint about its football players kneeling in prayer. An inquiry was initiated, which found the football players’ actions to be consistent with Air Force Instruction 1-1 and its guidance on the free exercise of religion and religious accommodation.”

    “The United States Air Force Academy will continue to reaffirm to cadets that all Airmen are free to practice the religion of their choice or subscribe to no religious belief at all,” academy officials said in the statement. “The players may confidently practice their own beliefs without pressure to participate in the practices of others.”

    Mikey and his penchant for hyperbole compares the Air Force Academy to Pol Pot;

    The Air Force Academy’s internal review of this matter is a pathetic sham and transparent farce of the highest order.

    Let us not forget that it was hardly a respected, deconflicted and disinterested third party entity or outside agency that inquired into MRFF’s charges against the Academy of unlawful, orchestrated, Christian-sectarian team praying by its football players.

    Indeed, having the Air Force Academy’s very own Athletic Dept. essentially “investigate itself” in this sordid unconstitutional matter of fundamentalist Christian triumphalism and supremacy is about as “impartial and effective” as having Pol Pot “investigate” himself for his killing field crimes against humanity or having Bernie Madoff direct the “investigation” of his investment business for allegations of pyramid or Ponzi scheme illegalities.

    Maybe if the team busted out their prayer rugs and faced Mecca it would make Mikey feel a little better about the whole thing. Mikey and MFers, on the other hand, need a crying towel and they really need to consider changing the name of their organization to something like the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Or ISIS.

    A columnist walks into a bar…

    Justin-Adam-Brown-795x1024 (2)

    Ryan sends us some links to a column that was published in Northeast Pennsylvania’s Weekender recently in which columnist Justin Adam Brown tells the story how him and his friends were a little short of cash, but they went out to a bar. Apparently, one of them was wearing a camouflage shirt and they were mistaken by an inebriated Vietnam veteran for veterans themselves. Brown says that at first, they denied that they were veterans, but eventually went along with it, getting some top-shelf liquor bought for them and selling the shirt to the Veteran for $100 after telling him that it was given to the fellow by George Bush. So, Brown’s column indicated that folks down on their luck should pretend to be veterans when they’re out in bars.

    Well, the upshot is that Brown and his editor, Sarah Haase, had to apologize to their readership.

    I know now that I made the wrong decision by printing the column — even if it did accurately express Justin’s opinions and actions. Over the past few days, I have had the opportunity to talk with veterans and active-duty military members alike. In each instance, I’ve taken the opportunity to apologize to them.

    Now, I’d like to apologize to everyone else who was offended, insulted, angered and outraged by the column.

    It was never my intention to upset so many of you — especially around the holiday season. I’d ask that you forgive my lack of good judgment in deciding to publish Justin’s piece.

    I hope I can earn back your trust.

    Sometimes I write about situations you think are funny. Sometimes I write about situations that make you uncomfortable. Recently, I was ignorant as to how insensitive and hurtful my words ended up being, and I’m sincerely sorry for that.

    I have an unwavering gratitude and admiration for veterans. I have friends, acquaintances, and family members who have fought and died for our country. I even officiated a same-sex military wedding. To our veterans, and to anyone else I offended, I apologize.

    Well, I remember when even veterans wouldn’t admit that they were veterans in public, so I ain’t that mad. People give money to hobos who they know aren’t veterans despite their claims, what’s the difference?

  • Mark Vicars; phony Air Marshall arrested

    Mark Vicars; phony Air Marshall arrested

    Mark Vicars

    In Mineola, New York, a police task force rolled up on this Mark Vicars fellow. When he was stopped, he turned on the police-like lights on his car and showed them his badge and ID card for his work as a Federal Air Marshall. Well, I guess he wasn’t an Air Marshall after all;

    Investigators say they found a loaded handgun and a knife on Vicars and searched his car.

    “In the backseat of the vehicle was a loaded Daniel Defense .223 caliber assault rifle along with ballistic body armor vest and a tactical vest,” says Nassau Detective Lt. Richard LeBrun.

    Officers found more weapons and about 8,300 rounds of ammunition at Vicars’ home.

    QM1, who sent us the link, says that word on the street is that he also claimed to be a former Navy SEAL, but I can’t find a reference to that particular untruth, but it would stand to reason that phony cop would also have a phony military career, too.

    Either way, Mark is still in the hoosegow trying to scrape together 3 hundred grand for bail.

    For some reason, Bradley Manning, the confused traitorous prisoner currently residing at the Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks got all Drama Queen-ie about Bruce Jenner and sent this Christmas Tweet late Thursday;

    I don’t even know what it means, but there it is. I’m pretty sure that the social justice warriors won’t like it. I’m also concerned that Dimbulb, the traitor has access to Twitter.

  • Secret Service agent robbed

    Someone in the the President’s protective detail in Washington, DC had a number of official items stolen from his personal vehicle the other day. Those items included a ” black Sig Sauer handgun, an APX6000 radio, handcuffs, a USB flash drive, a black Patagonia bag and a Secret Service badge, number 1266″ according to CNN.

    The Secret Service declined Tuesday to comment on the incident. But a law enforcement official noted that the USB is encrypted and password protected and argued the theft does not appear to be a threat to the agency.

    It’s not known what was contained on the stolen flash drive.

    Others inside the Secret Service expressed surprise that such a crime could take place so close to the law enforcement agency’s headquarters in the middle of the afternoon.

    The CNN report wants to make sure that you know the Sig that was stolen was “black” so I hope you were sufficiently frightened by that thought. The victim agent recalls seeing someone reach into his car, but didn’t see them take anything.

  • Barry Strange; 3rd Amendment phony

    Barry Strange; 3rd Amendment phony

    Barry Strange

    Club Manager sends us a link to an article from Arkansas about Barry Strange who was arrested for living in an empty house in White Hall. The homeowner went on a day trip and when she returned home, there was a strange car parked in the driveway and lights on in the house. Police arrived to find Mr. Strange making himself at home;

    According to the affidavit, police found that a bed had been slept in, there was evidence the shower had been used and men’s clothing was on the floor, and there were empty McDonald’s food bags.

    Zuber said when Strange was questioned, he allegedly said he was “conducting habitat missions for the military and that was the reason he was in the house.”

    Kizer said Strange is on felony probation from another county and had “14 failures to appear since 2005.”

    The 3rd Amendment, you might remember, protects citizens from that kind of stuff; “No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.” But, we know that no one named “Barry Strange” is in the military and he’s currently sitting in jail wondering how he’s ever going to come up with the $25,000 “cash only” bail money.

    Sheriff Mike Johnstone, opposed “shall issue” in Iowa, shoots self

    Sheriff-Johnstone

    Des Moines, Iowa Sheriff Mike Johnstone famously opposed his state becoming a “shall issue” concealed carry permit state four years ago. He claimed that it would be difficult to determine the metal health of applicants, that unqualified people would be able to get concealed weapon permits, according to the Washington Times;

    Indeed, that is the essence of Sheriff Johnstone’s criticism of easy-carry laws — that people on the margins of accountability might become likelier to carry and that situations that might not have involved deadly firearms before will do so now. Before the new law, he said, he issued permits based on applicants demonstrable need. Now, hes required to issue permits to those who possess the qualifications.

    “It’s putting weapons out on the street, and my deputies are very concerned about that,” he said.

    “The idea of running across armed individuals on patrol stops and those kind of things are very concerning to them,” he said, noting that meetings have been held in his department to discuss handling the possible rise in armed citizens.

    Apparently, he’s right, according to KBUR Johnstone failed to properly clear his weapon the other day and shot himself in the forepaw. He forgot that when he drops the magazine out, he should check the chamber, so he used his hand for a clearing barrel.

    I guess we need to properly administer background checks on some law enforcement personnel, too. Especially the ones who think we’re as incompetent as him.
