  • Right Wing News: BlogCon 2012; Charlotte

    Our buddy, John Hawkins of Right Wing News is a real social gadfly at these conventions, and he didn’t stop at Charlotte this weekend. You should see your favorite conservative bloggers – he posted 37 pictures. All it does for me, though, is remind me that I spend too much time with you guys these days, because I don’t recognize most of those names.

    It looks to me like the news of the week at the convention was that President Obama ate dog at least once. But, I have no room to talk – I haven’t eaten dog, but I’ve eaten cute little holler monkeys, some iguana, various snakes and any number of insects. To my credit, I never put any of them on top of my vehicle, though.

    By the way, it was Jim Treacher who was the first Conservative finally read past the first page of Obama’s memoirs to discover that morsel. And the Democrats must think that it’s a serious blow to the campaign because they spend more time talking about it than Conservatives.

  • Voting open for Milbloggies

    Voting for your favorite blogs has opened for another year;

    Voting will close on Friday, April 20, at 8pm EST/5pm PST.

    Just like last year, the names of winners will be sealed until Friday, May 11, where they will be revealed at the Seventh Annual Milblog Conference.

    I honestly don’t care who you vote for, just so long as you vote. Well, you have to vote for Parachutecutie (in the Military Supporter category), but other than that I seriously don’t care. If you don’t vote for us in the Veteran category, vote for the Burn Pit.

  • Welcome Russ Vaughn

    I think I peed myself a little. Going through my emails this morning, I came across one from Russ Vaughn. I didn’t think he even knew who we were. If you don’t recognize the name, Russ wrote “The Sheepdogs“. He used to write at Old War Dogs, the project created by the late Bill Faith (who credited Russ with the idea for OWD) and currently writes at The American Thinker.

    Anyway, Russ asked if we had room here at TAH for him. Lemme see, we have 18 people who can post here, one is bouncing around currently in some ‘Stan, somewhere, two are on Capitol Hill and the rest have lives, apparently, so lemme see if I can squeeze you in here, somewhere, Russ.

    Anyway, even if I didn’t have room, one of them would be getting their walking papers so we could get our clutches on a bit of Russ’ time. So join me, if you will, in welcoming an icon of the Vietnam generation of blog writers, Russ Vaughn to the already stellar staff at TAH.

    By the way, Russ earned his Combat Infantry Badge in the 2d Bn, 327th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, when they were still paratroopers in Vietnam 1965-1966.

  • RWN interviews Hermann Cain

    Our buddy, John Hawkins at Right Wing News, famous for doing the interviews no one else does, has posted the interview he did last week with Hermann Cain, former presidential candidate, CEO and founder of Godfather’s Pizza and former talk radio host;

    Would you accept a position in a Republican administration — including possibly the VP slot?

    I never say never…

  • Milboggies voting open

    We were just notified that nominations for the Annual Milbloggies are open.

    Below are the categories. To nominate a blog, just write a comment and include the URL. It takes five nominations for a blog to make the Finalists.

    I’m not soliciting nominations, I just think it’s important that more people participate in the process for the benefit of the entire Milblog community. I know, I sound like a collectivist or something, but I’m proud of the way the entire Milblog Community has changed and shaped the debate in this country and their commitment to the troops.

    I don’t need an award, I have you guys dickweeds.

  • Preliminary report on Neptunus Lex’ accident

    509th Bob sends us a link to an article from Lahontan Valley News with the preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board’s relating to the accident that killed our friend retired Navy Capt. Carroll LeFon earlier this month;

    According to the NTSB, LeFon’s flight had left NAS Fallon at 7:52 a.m., and after an adverse training mission, LeFon attempted to return to the field. The NTSB reports LeFon tried to make two Ground Control Approach radar approaches to NAS Fallon, but because of the weather, LeFon attempted to divert to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Reno-Tahoe reported minimal weather conditions, and as a result, LeFon returned to NAS Fallon and told air traffic controllers he was in a “critical fuel state.”

    The report further stated LeFon descended and maneuvered first toward runway 31 and then runway 13 before the F-21 the accident.

    “The airplane struck the ground in an open field in the northwest corner of the airport property and impacted a concrete building on the field,” stated the NTSB report.

    Bucking the odds stacked against him, Nep Lex managed to minimize the damage to the air field and other casualties besides himself. As I said initially, I’m sure that’s the way he would have wanted to leave us; doing what he loved most and with his boots on.

  • That SEAL who Christie called an “idiot”

    Someone sent us this link early this morning about Governor Christie calling a former SEAL an “idiot”, so I did what I always do when I smell a phony SEAL. I sent the link to Captain Larry Bailey. He just responded a few minutes ago that William Brown is indeed a SEAL.

    It wasn’t a story like you guys are accustomed, so I wasn’t going to mention it. But then I found out, from XBradTC in the comments that Ace of Spades had written about it and then I started getting email tips linking to Ace. I emailed Ace about what we learned from Captain Bailey, so there was no misunderstanding over there.

    Then I didn’t want you guys to think I was ignoring the story and your tips, so there you have it. A little excitement on a slow news day.

  • Thanks, dickweeds

    Mark Christianson, my old buddy from paratrooper.net, just wrote to tell us that you guys came through for his daughter, Amanda, last month when I asked you to vote for her charity. She’ll be going to the 2012 Olympics in London thanks to your clicks. I guess I used the right motivation. I was worried because you dickweeds never vote for me in the Milbloggies.

    Congratulations, Amanda. Hope you have fun and your dad doesn’t worry about you too much.
