  • Shame

    This blog is about shaming people – we shame people who dress up in costumes and try to be something they aren’t. We shame people who believe things that aren’t true. We shame people who commit crimes against the rest of us. We shame journalists who don’t do their research. Unfortunately, there’s collateral damage to our business. People who aren’t a part of the process get splattered by the blood and guts of the people who we eviscerate on these pages.

    I’ve been in an email exchange over the last few days with someone who is upset that we exposed the leader of his little club as a pretender. Somehow it’s my fault, and I’m supposed to backtrack on the story because of an upcoming event that this club was supposed to be involved with. No, I don’t think so.

    Last week, a lawyer representing Phillip Monkress called to ask us to take down the posts and comments about him because it was damaging his business. We didn’t do that either. Since the Supreme Court won’t let the government punish the phonies, this is the only thing we have left to police our ranks. I’m pretty sure that no one here cares that Monkress’ business is failing.

    I don’t care that Dick Stoops didn’t get into the Missouri National Guard Hall of Fame, based on his lies, either. I don’t care that Ike Densmore killed himself because of his lies. I don’t care that Todd Hamilton‘s charity fell to pieces.

    What I do care about is that people understand that there are now consequences for their bad behavior. Apparently most people weren’t taught that by their parents, I guess that part of their childhood development is left to TAH.

    But, what I’m really tired of are the empty threats to my health and well-being. I’m not doing all of this and hiding behind a screen. I use my real name and I put the TAH Corporate Headquarters on Google Earth, so anyone can get driving directions and come up to visit anytime they want – I’m always home.

    This Ain't Hell

    I guess my whole point is this; if you don’t want to be shamed on TAH, don’t do shameful things. Before you write that email telling me what a scumbag I am, think about the scumbag you’re defending. And, if you really want to kick my ass or anything else, use the map and say it to my face. Or STFU.

  • Right Wing News: The 20 Most Annoying Liberals of 2012 (10th Annual)

    Our buddy, John Hawkins sends us a link to latest iteration of “The 20 Most Annoying Liberals of 2012 (10th Annual)“. That must have been a gargantuan task to pare down the list to just twenty. But here’s a sample of his piece;

    20) Chris Hayes: He’s a smarmy, politically correct beta male who would probably be irritating even if he wasn’t talking about politics. If you had to pick the MSNBC host most likely to hold Rachel Maddow’s purse while she shops, it would be Hayes.

    Defining quote: “(It’s) very difficult to talk about the war dead and the fallen without invoking valor, without invoking the words ‘heroes.’ I feel … uncomfortable about the word hero because it seems to me that it is so rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war.” — Chris Hayes

    5) Harry Reid: On the one hand, it’s great to see that the farmer from the American Gothic painting doing so well. On the other hand, Reid still achieved a new low in American politics (which is saying something) when he, as the Senate Majority Leader, very publicly accused Mitt Romney of not paying his taxes for a decade based on what he claimed were anonymous sources.

    Defining quote: “I am not basing (the claim Mitt Romney hasn’t paid taxes) on some figment of my imagination. I have had a number of people tell me that. I don’t think the burden should be on me. The burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid any taxes.” — Harry Reid

    4) Debbie Wasserman Schultz: She’s the Caps Lock key of American politics because she sounds like this all the time, “THE REPUBLICANS ARE HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD PEOPLE WHO WANT TO EAT YOUR BABY AFTER THEY FINISH THEIR WAR ON WOMEN AND THEY’RE LYING IF THEY DENY IT!” The fact that someone as utterly unappealing as Schultz is in every single way could not only be elected to Congress, but could be the Chair of the Democratic National Committee is probably a sign of the apocalypse.

    Defining Quote: “If you go back to the year 2000, when we had an obvious disaster and – and saw that our voting process needed refinement, and we did that in the America Votes Act and made sure that we could iron out those kinks, now you have the Republicans, who want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws and literally – and very transparently – block access to the polls to voters who are more likely to vote Democratic candidates than Republican candidates. And it’s nothing short of that blatant.” — Debbie Wasserman Schultz

  • TSO hard at work

    TSO forwarded this picture sent to him by Michelle Malkin. That’s JR Salzman (His blog is “Lumberjack in a Desert“) with them.

    They’re in Vegas, baby, with a whole slew of wounded warriors;

    Dozens of wounded veterans and their families are getting a taste of the high roller’s life in Las Vegas.

    For the next several days, they’ll stay at the Venetian and Palazzo resorts for free as a thanks for their service.

    Venetian owner Sheldon Adelson and his wife actually loaned the airplane to fly the vets in from Washington, DC.

    Arriving to the cheers of their hosts, more than 30 wounded warriors and their friends and families walked a red carpet at the Palazzo Waterfall, Atrium and Gardens.

    TSO says he’s awaiting a meeting with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw today, and hoping that “Tatersalad” makes it.

    Michelle Malkin has been a great friend to this blog since we began, in fact she emailed us yesterday to ask which of us was in Vegas and that she wanted to see us again. Unfortunately for me, it was TSO.

  • TAH 6th Blogoversary

    It was six years ago today that I made the decision to leave the forums behind and carve out my own corner of the internet. So here we are 10,775 posts and 145,217 comments later. Our traffic over the last year has been stratospheric. This is just those of you who read us on the blog, not including the folks who read us on Network blogs and and Facebook;

    The most popular post remains the one about Soup Sandwich with 95,000 reads in the last year. The second most read page is the Stolen Valor page with the links to our candidates in the last tournament. The spike in the chart above is from TSO’s unmasking of Tim Poe. I’m kind of proud of the fact that we were responsible for 6000 days of wasted manhours in the last year.

    So welcome to our 7th year. Here’s the interview I did a few months ago about the founding and my vision for TAH. Thanks to all of the bloggers who think we have something important to say and thanks to you readers and commenters who find some measure of value in our ramblings through the English language.

  • For the TSO fan club

    Yeah, I’ll admit that I’m a member of the TSO fan club, but it’s good for my image that I’m not alone. Parachute Cutie has been with him all week at the American Legion Convention and she put together a photo essay of the man at the Legion’s parade. So you should go read it.

  • Mea Culpa? Well Maybe…

    Based on the response to my most recent post, Feats of Clay, it is obvious we’re going to have to clear the air here at TAH if I’m going to continue posting. As an old soldier who first began writing for the Internet in support of the Swift Boat Veterans back in 2004, I’ve come in for my fair share of criticism. When it comes from my liberal detractors I shrug it off as meaningless and inconsequential. For them I’ve developed a hard shell. I must confess, however, when it comes from fellow soldiers and veterans, it tends to sting a bit, especially when it is misdirected friendly fire.
    First off, I am, in fact, a cantankerous old fart (a recent examining physician referred to me as irascible) with little respect for timidity or false bravado. If you believe something then be prepared to stand up and say so and then, more importantly, be able to defend what you say. I realize that many people aren’t capable of doing that by lack of forcefulness in personality. However, I’m not one of those which is why I sit here pounding this damned keyboard into expositions of my views which many of you seem to like but some of you don’t.

    As has been pointed out to Ol’ Poetrooper by editors, if your humorous writing is not perceived as humorous by the majority of your readers and you find yourself having to explain it, then you are not a very good writer of humor, so it is best to stay away from that genre. That’s good advice. However, irascible old bastard that I am, I find that constraint upon my writing difficult to observe, having been possessed since childhood with a bent toward dark, sarcastic (yes some would call it black) humor that resulted in my Army superiors frequently referring to me as Sergeant Wiseass and more than a few of my professors, especially the lefties, definitely unamused by my caustic observations.

    So periodically I return to the keyboard, hell-bent on being darkly (dare I use that word, Insipid?) funny. Obviously with this most recent piece, Feats of Clay, I failed. Few readers understood the word play of feats for the black idiomatic usage, “feets,” and the references to Greek mythology were over the top, with the upshot being I was called from the very first comments a racist and my supposedly humorous piece attacked as a racist rant and diatribe. Worse, some of you questioned Jonn for allowing the posting of such a racist rant.

    If you read my own comment following the post, you will see I am not about to allow the Left to control my speech. When the liberal trolls such as Insipid, feel free by dint of their liberal bonafides to smack us in the face with the term Nigger, which by rules of political correctness only liberals like Insipid and blacks may use, I say screw you. If I want to use that term of invective in my writings to make a point, I damned well will, liberal scorn be damned. A society where only certain persons and groups within that society can use a specific word is not a free society. Here’s what LTC Allen West, a black politician I support, has to say on the topic:

    “I don’t care about my critics; I understand that my country is at a very perilous situation and I’m going to use the type of words that are necessary to get the attention of the American people.”

    Bravo, Master-Blaster, a paratrooper politician who always wears his master parachutist wings on his suit lapels, something no other of his congressional colleagues can or would do.

    Colonel West also said this:

    I really feel that it is demeaning to me to think that I need some individual to justify me and my existence. Look, I went through 22 years being in the military, I rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel, I have a bachelor and 2 masters degrees. And for these white liberals to believe they can have this condescending manner toward black conservatives that we need to have approval from our quote unquote, I guess “masters”, for us to be able to speak–see that’s where the true racism really lies, governor, is with the white liberals who don’t want to see someone such as myself that broke away from their dependency class and is out here and able to possibly contend against them with the policies that they are promoting that’s destroying the black community. I know I’m their #1 target and it just emboldens me to speak out even stronger.”

    Sorry old racist bastard that I am to some of you, I’m getting ready to send the good colonel another campaign contribution and I’m ready to write another supportive blog post for him. While I don’t think he has the political experience to be Romney’s VP selection, I do think he would be an excellent Secretary of the Army in the Romney Administration. I have little doubt that he would do a tent fumigation of the Pentagon, sending all those politically correct roaches entrenched there running to a well-deserved drowning in the Potomac. Maybe he could just have orders cut sending them all to Ranger School, male and female alike. Yeah, that ought to please all the libs agitating for the feminization of our military. Gee, maybe I am self-censoring: the first expression that came to mind was the castration of our military.

    So those of you who were too quick to label Ol’ Poetrooper a racist, need to walk away from this with a couple of thoughts: I’m not a racist and being called one by liberals doesn’t faze me a bit. However, when it comes from fellow warriors I feel the bite. I kid you not, it hurts. Secondly, and more importantly, just like Allen West, I won’t curb my opinions or my writings to conform to some liberal (or too-sensitive conservative) imposed concept of civility. I do not write to offend needlessly but I sure as hell will not self-censor because my writings might hurt some tender sensibilities on either side of the political spectrum. Consider the Poetrooper to be an equal opportunity offender.

    And from my observation of TAH postings, if you’re too eager to be offended, you’re probably at the wrong blog.

  • Right Wing News; The 20 Hottest Conservative Women In The New Media (2012 Edition)

    John Hawkins of Right Wing news sends us his annual iteration of “The 20 Hottest Conservative Women In The New Media (2012 Edition)” and all it does is make me feel old and disconnected from the conservative blog world. I used to know personally about half of John’s picks, and half of those I used to toss beers back with.

    In fact, when TSO first joined the team, he asked me once “How come you have friends who look like that and I have friends who look like you?”

    But I hardly recognize any of them this year and the only one in the crowd with whom I’ve had beers is Mary Katherine Ham. As always, Michelle Malkin is in the mix and she’s been a friend to this blog since the beginning. I’ll admit that I have a huge crush on Kira Davis and I’ve been a fan of S.E. Cupp’s work since she was working at The Washington Times. I’m not sure Ann Coulter really counts as a “new media” person.

    But, enjoy.

  • TAH on the DC Post

    The folks at DC Post approached me yesterday and offered me another place to post my pointless blather and get some more ad clickers. It’ll be the same stuff you read here, but if you stop over there sometimes, you might find something that interests you that we don’t talk about here, since they seem to be more politically oriented than us.

    But they liked the post I did yesterday about Obama out-Cheneying Cheney, so stop over and wave at the folks there.

    Yes, all of the pieces of my plan to take over the world are falling into place.
