  • Hollywood stuck in the 60s

    I’ve long been a “student” of  Che Guevara in that I read every word of his that I could find. I studied his life and his activism – and I kept him at arm’s length. It’s easy to succumb to the romanticism of a iconic figure like Che if you read the romanticism of the Left that has him the symbol of the struggle against the United States and democracy as a whole.

    Just like if you only read the Left’s version of Nixon, the Left’s version of Reagan, the Left’s version of…oh, well, just about anything, really. And it’s that romanticism that attracts young minds of mush to the Che T-shirts, the Che beer – it’s easy to fall in love with notion of Che as long as you don’t think about him too much.

    Reason has put out this video entitled “Hollywood’s Sick Love Affair with Che Guevara”, that, characteristic of everything Reason produces, makes more sense than any crap coming out of Hollywood these days.

    The event is the release of Benecio Del Toro’s portrayal in the new movie “Che” which Del Toro opened in Cuba the other day – sweet, huh? I’ll admit that Che is an underachiever when it comes to mass murder, at least when you compare him to Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot and other successful mass murderers, but then how many people do you have to kill to be despised by the Left? Cuba Archives lists 132 executions directly attributable to Guevara – it’s certainly not the millions of other communist thugs, but how many does it take (hat tip to Babalu Blog)?

    According to Cuba Archives, those 132 weren’t given the benefit of a trial;

    During its on-going investigations, Cuba Archive has found that most of the men executed by order of Ché Guevara were career or low-ranking members of the Police or Armed Forces of Cuba who had performed their constitutional duties and had committed no crimes despite serving under a 7-year dictatorship. In many cases, they came from families that had served their country for several generations. A few were members of paramilitary groups or protective forces that had committed crimes under the Batista dictatorship. But, none had the benefit of trials conducted with basic rules of jurisprudence.

    The American Left has been whining for years about the abuses of the criminal Bush Administration. Have 132 been executed? Has even one been executed? Their greatest complaint about the Bush Administration is the water boarding of two people and the outing of Valerie Plame. But Che is a fricken hero worthy of worship.

    This how I remember Che;

    Stretched out in a jungle hut with a Bolivian sergeant’s bullet in him – after a failed revolution that Castro sent him on to get him out of Castro’s hair.

    If the Hollywood Left is looking for a Cuban to make a movie about, why don’t they make a movie about Yoani Sanchez, a cuban blogger who has been systematically harrassed and persecuted for blogging about the Cuban regime and conditions in Cuba. Doesn’t that sound like a story worthy of a movie more than a story about an idealist who becomes a thug-murderer whose only claim to fame is to look dashing in a beret?

  • OK, here’s a question

    Which of these guys look like the real Santa Clause?

    This picture is from a Free Republic party I was invited to attend this last weekend (You can see all of the pictures here). The guy who looks most like Santa is a frequent visitor here.

  • Iowahawk: Mumbai terrorists missed email

    Iowahawk seems to have the transcript from the lone surviving Mumbai terrorist’s initial interview in which he blames an email mixup for their attack;

    “What? Oh bloody hell, now you tell me,” said Kasab, as he was led away in handcuffs by Indian security forces.

    Kasab, 21, apologized to Indian President Pratibha Patil, explaining that no one in his group had known about the recent U.S. election results.

    “Boy, talk about having egg on the face,” said a visibly embarrassed Kasab. “If we knew Bush was on his way out, obviously we would have called off the crazy random baby-shootings and martyrdom stuff, and signed on with the Peace Corps or Habitat for Humanity. At this point I guess all I can say is ‘my bad.’”

    Enjoy the rest here.

  • The Liberty Tree Network

    Two of my favorite bloggers Kate from Blatherings Blog and Beth at Blue Star Chronicles have paid us the greatest compliment – they’ve asked us to join their new network of blogs called The Liberty Tree Network. You can read the history of the name of the group (pre-Revolution history – my favorite kind of history) at the link. Kate wrote that she really enjoys ya’all’s comments over here says that’s why I got the offer – because of my unique readership (she doesn’t know half of your uniqueness).

    So what does this mean? Nothing much to you guys except that you should visit the blogs down in that Liberty Tree widget in the side bar when you’re tired of our yammering. That’s what I love about blogging – readership isn’t a zero sum game.

    I’m honored that they asked us to join them, and I’m honored that you guys got us this recognition.

  • Blue Star Moms Light of Love Tree

    My favorite Soldiers’ Angel, Laurie from back in my old stomping grounds in Upstate New York is just like a softer version of Sarah Palin – she doesn’t shoot moose, but she sent me a picture last year of her leaning over her freshly-killed buck. In fact, when I saw the picture of Sarah Palin, I immediately thought of Laurie.

    Well, anyway, Laurie asked me to tell you all about a favorite project of hers – the Blue Star Moms Light of Love Tree;

    In honor of those who are still serving our country and for those who have been injured trying to preserve our American way of life for our veterans and in memory of those who gave their lives for our freedom…

    The City of Canandaigua will place a tree in the gazebo of Kershaw Park and the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. NY Chapter #1 will place Blue, Gold and Silver Stars on the Tree. Small pictures of past and present servicemen and women will be placed in the center of each star. Branch insignia’s will be in place of photo if no picture is sent. The lights will be Red,White and Blue and turn on at dusk and off at dawn.

    Go check out the rest of the post and give these great ladies a hand.

  • The Blogosphere reacts

    I’m not bothering to read the news this morning. Somehow, I know what they’re all saying. So, instead I took a tour of the folks in my blogroll and since I have to go to work in a minute (across the dining room) I’ll make this brief.

    Michelle Malkin pretty much says what I did first thing this morning (emptying my head of those nightmares I had last night) – except she says it like my drill sergeant would have;

    There is no time to lick wounds, point fingers, and wallow in post-election mud.

    I’m getting a lot of moan-y, sad-face “What do we do now, Michelle?” e-mails.

    What do we do now? We do what we’ve always done.

    We stand up for our principles, as we always have — through Democrat administrations and Republican administrations, in bear markets or bull markets, in peacetime and wartime.

    We stay positive and focused.

    We keep the faith.

    We do not apologize for our beliefs.

    Chris at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy must’ve watched me struggle to lift my body from bed to bang on these keys this morning;

    It didn’t happen like we wanted but it happened. So what do we do now? There are a lot of people who will just want to stay in bed. Not me. There are a lot of people who will be depressed. Don’t. You have to believe in America. That’s not just a line. In my heart, I believe in America. I believe that America will overcome anything and prosper. We survived 4 years of Carter. We survived 8 years of Clinton. We survived 8 years of Bush. WE WILL SURVIVE THIS. Even if he bombs as president and is worse than Carter, we will survive it.

    Jennifer Ruben dissects the McCain campaign and counts his major mistakes;

    The results are in and the recriminations have begun. Sure, it might not have made any difference, but the number of sins of omission and commission by the McCain campaign is breathtaking. Let’s get a head start on the finger-pointing and give you the top thirty mistakes John McCain and his team made:

    Bryan Pick (my mole at VFF) at QandO gets introspective;

    I saw Obama’s supporters with tears in their eyes. I heard that some are actually dancing in the streets. I saw many of my friends and family jubilant about the outcome of the election, proud of and in love with their country. And what was my response?

    I asked everyone who’s celebrating tonight to record their hopeful expectations for an all-Democrat federal government, and later, to compare with the real-world consequences.

    Curt at Flopping Aces thinks Obama has already peaked;

    Congratulations to Barack Obama, our first pure socialist President.

    At least we at FA are going to have a TON to write about over the next four years.

    Bloodthirsty Liberal reports that change has already reached Israel;

    Well, more of the same, actually:

    More than 35 Qassam rockets and mortar shells were fired at the western Negev communities early Wednesday, following an Israel Defense Forces operation in the Gaza Strip aimed at thwarting a terror attack.

    JammieWearingFool writes that Tim Robbins was feeling another chill wind yesterday. VanHelsing at Moonbattery reports that MSNBC has finally come out of their Obama closet.

    Oh, and while I’m typing this, Fox calls Coleman the winner over that angry little shit Franken he was running against – by about 600 votes.

    And just to rub a little salt in our wounds, Kenya named November 4th a National Holiday in honor of Barack Hussein Obama (can we use his middle name yet, by the way).

  • Vets For Freedom gunning for Murtha/Murphy

    John Murtha has made himself vulnerable in his own district and the Vets For Freedom are exploiting that breech as I’ve mentioned a few times this week. They’re also targeting Murtha’s partner in Pennsylvania, Patrick Murphy.

    Pete Hegseth writes in National Review Online;

    As my friend David Bellavia, co-founder and vice-chairman of Vets for Freedom always says, “don’t use your valor awards from previous wars to tell me about my war.” This holds true for Murtha, and brings me to Patrick Murphy, a representative of “our war” and the only Iraq war veteran currently serving in Congress.

    Murphy has used his status as a former soldier to lead the charge against success on the battlefield, standing at every turn with Nancy Pelosi and other anti-war members of Congress. Clamoring to be our generation’s John Kerry (minus the gravitas), Murphy even co-sponsored the “Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007,” which aimed to set a timeline for withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq.

    Even after the remarkable success of the surge became apparent, Murphy continued to oppose it, with no desire to understand Iraq as it stands today. Using 2007 talking points, his campaign and congressional websites still claim that we are “bogged down refereeing a religious civil war in Iraq.” With the civil war completely over, and Iraqis stepping forward to lead their own country, Murphy still won’t acknowledge success.

    And then there’s this petition;

    Dear Congressman John Murtha;

    In May 2006, you accused a group of United States Marines of killing “innocent civilians in cold blood”. You made these allegations during an ongoing investigation. In fact, a Marine Corps spokesman said that you made your statement a week before you had even been briefed.

    You continued to accuse these eight Marines of “cold-blooded murder and war crimes”, even after the Marine Corps itself said your comments on the matter “would be inappropriate and could undermine the investigatory and possible legal process.”

    As a result of the investigation, the charges were dropped against 7 of the 8 Marines and the other Marine is awaiting his day in court.

    However, you have not withdrawn your statements or apologized for your defamatory remarks.

    Marines implicated in the incident believe that you have committed slander and libel against them. These United States Marines, whose honor you have attacked, deserve to hear an apology from you.

    We, the undersigned, implore you, Representative Murtha, as a man who serves the public in Congress, as a man who once served in the Marine Corps, to do the honorable thing.

    You must apologize.

    Signed,

    You can sign the petition from here (thanks to my mole that sent me the slick widget) By signing the petition from here, you let VFF know that This Ain’t Hell supports them.

    There’s also this powerful, yet tasteful ad which is running in Murphy’s district;

    Finally, this weekend, Uncle Jimbo is leading a contingent of VFFers and Blackfivers into heart of Murtha’s District. Join them if you can.

    TSO: Just to make this even more of a fight between the forces of light and the forces of darkness, Murtha has sent a letter appealing for help from his sith lords at MoveOn.org:

    Dear Friends,

    After decades of fighting for this country and our troops, I am up against the right-wing attack machine again.

    Because of my work to end the Iraq war, they have thrown hundreds of thousands of dollars behind my opponent, who lives in Virginia with his family, not in my district in Pennsylvania. Now, I am suddenly being outspent 3 to 1.

    They are up to the same old tricks, “swiftboating” me again as they did two years ago. So I am asking people who have stood with me on Iraq to stand with me again to stop them in their tracks.

    Another Update;
    Here’s a photo someone just sent me of greasy, slimy fatass, scum sucking, cowardly Veterans For Peace thug Bill Perry (the guy that testified at the first Winter Soldier hearings that he let his platoon walk into an ambush while he sought his own safety despite the fact that he had been forewarned) hugging Patrick Murphy;

  • TSO “In The Crosshairs”

    TSO will be “In the Crosshairs” with Uncle Jimbo and Dave Bellavia after his stellar appearance last week. Among the topics of discussion will be my sighting of Geoff Millard last night at an Obama Rally. The show has already started but TSO is scheduled for a 1330 Zulu appearance. (That’s 1:30ish Eastern Time for any squids or zoomies who might read this- Zulu means wherever I am when I’m writing).
