  • That $1.7 trillion loss

    Now that I work from home most days, I get to have the news on in the background. So I finally got to hear Obama talk about the economy to supporters in Wisconsin today. He really is a lying piece of shit, ya know. To hear him tell it, you’d think the economy is in such trouble, it’ll never recover. Of course, that’s the same line we heard after 9-11, too.

    But, I want to explain this huge lie about the supposed $1.7 trillion loss earlier this week. The only people who lost money are the people who shifted it around at the bottom of the market, sold off stocks and locked in the lower value. There was no loss since when you buy stocks or mutual funds you’re buying shares. The number of shares you own didn’t change (unless you sold them). What changed was the value of your shares.

    Obama claimed that $1.7 trillion was “lost”. It wasn’t lost…it’s still there when the market recovers. In fact, I usually buy shares when the market makes wild swings, because that’s when the market is headed back north.

    Suppose you had a new car and had an accident with it. It lost value in it’s battered condition. You certainly wouldn’t sell it in that condition and eat the loss, would you? So you take it and get it repaired as good as new and the value recovers. It’s the same with the stock market. You don’t sell off your battered stocks off while they’re still dinged up.

    Obama is hoping you’re stupid enough to think that everyone lost their collective shirt the other day. If the market worked like that, no one would ever buy stock. The Democrats want you to think that they are your salvation, the only chance you have for a future.

    The economy will recover…regardless of whether the bailout happens or not. The bailout will speed up the recovery, which seems to be everyone’s big concern here, but the US economy is the strongest in the world and it’ll always recover, the value of your stocks will return. But knowing that doesn’t make you vote for Democrats.

    Speaking of the bailout, you’ve probably all seen this video by now (I’ve been up to my ass in aligators since last Friday so I’m catching up on email and news) but Bev Perlson (of Band of Mothers) sent me this today at MsUnderestimated. It’s the best eight minutes you’ll spend on YouTube.

    Reader cbullitt asks a good question about the bailout;

    Question: Since the oil drilling moratorium expired today, has anyone checked to see if the ban has been inserted into this Dumbshit bailout? Its seems like the perfect solution for the Dems because it will pass this time thaks to the other 300 pages of pork in it.

    Hell, we might find Jimmy Hoffa in the damn thing.

    Another great ten minutes spent on YouTube (thanks to EagleSpeak and Rurik);

  • McCain supporters greeted in NYC

    No, not really. This video (which I found at Weasel Zippers) is of McCain supporters marching through Manhattan and the reception they get from their fellow New Yorkers. It gives you a sense of the feeling I get everyday walking to work in DC;

    Since I’ve been accused of putting my readers in an angry mood, here’s a video that will brighten you up today, from Iowahawk, by way of Bookworm at Webloggin.

    There. Feel better?

  • New McCain ads

    They must be reading the blogs over at McCain Central.

    The first ad is entitled “Rein” and quotes Bill Clinton bragging about him and the Congressional Democrats blocking Republicans’ attempts to rein-in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae;

    [youtube r2RZ0sUcVcE nolink]

    The second uses the video I posted the other day of Obama admitting that the fundamentals of our economy are strong – just like McCain said last week;

    [youtube VVB5rd-azXM nolink]

    Now I just saw an Obama ad where he claimed that among a littany of other things, “change” meant we won’t allow banks to rip people off. I’m pretty sure we’re in this mess because people were ripping off banks by not paying their mortgages…but I might be wrong.

    But over in Camp Obama, they’ve got real topical videos like this one of some child molester and her child groom;

    [youtube TFVfNYVT298 nolink]

    By way of The Weekly Standard Blog, Politico‘s Ben Smith quotes Obama admitting he really doesn’t mean all of the bipartisanship blather of his;

    “I don’t think me calling House Republican members would have been that helpful, I tend not to be that persuasive on that side of the aisle,” he said.

    But according to Conservative Punk, he couldn’t even convince Sheila Jackson Lee to vote for the bailout, but she touts his ability to deliver votes.

  • No media conspiracy here

    Yeah, there’s no media bias in favor of the Obama ticket. Well, unless you include some of this stuff;

    An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings sets the mood by quoting Tony Blankley;

    This is no longer journalism — it is simply propaganda. (The American left-wing version of the Volkischer Beobachter cannot be far behind.) And as a result, we are less than seven weeks away from possibly electing a president who has not been thoroughly and even half way honestly presented to the country by our watchdogs — the press.

    From Little Green Footballs apparently the media doesn’t mind  being free of recording the Biden gaffes;

    Earlier this week the networks threw a major tantrum when the McCain campaign tried to limit their access to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s meetings with foreign officials.

    Today, Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden met with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and completely excluded the press.

    And not a peep from the mainstream media.

    From Ace of Spades, I guess we’re still going to be subjected to the most ridiculous rumor thus far this century in perpetuity;

    The Washington Post yesterday asked the McCain campaign on the record whether Trig Palin is Sarah Palin’s biological son. Howard Kurtz, one of the most prominent media journalists in the world, asked that question.

    Steve Gilbert at Sweetness and Light catches Biden in a baldfaced lie that he never said that Iraq should partitioned;

    Mind you, Mr. Biden’s latest claims can’t be explained away as a gaffe.

    To claim he was never for partition is just a flat out lie.

    So where is the media to bring this the attention of the voters? Why haven’t they bothered to mention that Joe Biden, the self-proclaimed foreign policy expert of the Democrat Party has been wrong on every foreign policy pronouncement?

    A two-fer from Blue Crab Boulevard;

    I realize that the abject “main stream” media will suppress this, just as they suppressed the contents of Iranian president Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s vile speech at the UN. But had a major Republican fundraiser done this, the media would be positively spasming right now.

    An Obama fundraiser – a major one – has proudly met the Iranian president and overtly offered to subvert American law to suck up to the vicious, little anti-Semite.

    And that lie about Sarah Palin charging rape victims for their own rape kits? Gateway Pundit and Confederate Yankee put that to rest finally.

    ** There is not one single record of the Wasilla police department charging any rape victim for an examination.
    Not one.

    The Finance Department searched all financial records on our system for fiscal year 2000, 2001 and 2002. There are no records of billings to or collections from rape victims or their insurance companies in our system. The financial computer system goes back to the beginning of fiscal year 2000, and accounts receivable backup documentation goes back six (6) years per our records retention schedule.

    But that doesn’t prevent the New York Times from publishing an opinion column that asks questions that have already been answered;

    Ms. Palin owes voters an explanation. What was the thinking behind cutting the measly few thousand dollars needed to cover the yearly cost of swabs, specimen containers and medical tests? Whose dumb idea was it to make assault victims and their insurance companies pay instead? Unfortunately, her campaign is shielding the candidate from the press, so Americans may still be waiting for answers on Election Day.

    They’re showing the world why the media was so supportive of campaign finance restrictions…so they could have the only show in town and elect their candidates.

  • Chickenhawk Express on YouTube

    My alter ego, Robin at Chickenhawk Express dipped her toe into the video editing pool this week and created this;

    There’s really nothing to say after this well-produced video. Good job, Robin!

  • Rest easy America: the Trial Lawyers are manning the walls

    Biden:

    There are two people — you’ve heard me say it before — two groups that stand between us and the barbarians at the gate. It’s you [Lawyers] and organized labor. That’s it. That is it. So, mark my words, mark my words, if we lose this election, you are going to continue to see a continuation of the onslaught on everything we care about. For real. For real. So, I’m not only thanking you for your help. I would think you’re all absolutely brain-dead if you didn’t help. And I mean it.

    Great, the Lawyers are our force protection. Look, I went to law school, I wouldn’t let most of my fellow students guard a banana shack near a monkey cage. If I had to spend the rest of my life around a certain demographic of people, it sure as hell wouldn’t be lawyers or law students. There were some I liked, but most were vapid, inane and more interested in where they stood on the class rankings than where they stood on the issues.

    I’ll take my chances with the 11 Bravos gaurding the gates. We may sleep and try to pick up any woman who walks within 50 meters of it, but we sure as hell won’t sell it out.

  • Astroturfers busted cold by Ace and Rusty

    If you’re not reading Ace of Spades (here and then here) and The Jawa Report, you’re missing the big blog story of this election. The Astroturfing saga continues.

  • The politics of “Change” change back

    After telling us for 19 months that he’s for changing national politics, Obama has decided you’ll let him get away with the old politics of fear that have worked so well for Democrats in past elections. In Florida yesterday, he told seniors that Republicans were plotting to get their social security money according to Wall Street Journal‘s Washington Wire;

    “If my opponent had his way, the millions of Floridians who rely on it would’ve had their Social Security tied up in the stock market this week,” Obama told 2,500 supporters at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He also told voters that half of elderly women would be living in poverty without Social Security. The Democratic nominee said that McCain would gamble with their life savings. “Millions would’ve watched as the market tumbled and their nest egg disappeared before their eyes. Millions of families would’ve been scrambling,” he said.

    Not really. Not even close. Under President Bush’s proposal, current Social Security recipients would have been able to opt out of the new plan…and the new program would have only invested a miniscule portion of Social Security accounts in the stock market. Besides, I’m sure Obama wouldn’t want you to know that the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 40% in the last five years as of Friday while your social security money earned about 12% over the same time period.

    Every time the stock market takes a hit, the Democrats drag out this fantasy…but I noticed no one mentioned the 30% rise in stock indexes in 2003 or the 19% in 2005. But those “Change” signs have just become background decorations rather than anything substantial in recent months. The Democrats are just going back the same old vacant strategies of the Clintons, Gores and Kerrys.But the McCain campaign didn’t let the vacuous charges go unanswered;

    The McCain campaign said that Obama’s attacks were “desperate” and unfairly scared voters. “This is a desperate attempt to gain political advantage using scare tactics and deceit,” said Tucker Bounds, a campaign spokesman. He also pointed to Obama’s book, “The Audacity of Hope,” where the Democratic nominee said that a parallel pension system was needed to complement Social Security.

    What’s next for the Obama campaign? Threatening that Black churches will burn if McCain is elected?
