  • About that Nazi symbolism

    You’ve probably been reading this story all day;

    frank-nazi

    Well, what you haven’t read anywhere is in this post at Ace of Spades;

    Despite the fact the woman toting the sign specificially says “LaRouche has defeated” the death-panel/end-of-life-counseling-intereventions — obviously a LaRouche follower if she is giving this goofball non-factor all the credit for the opposition’s success — the media will of course continue claiming this is a Republican phenomenon.

    Lyndon LaRouche is the perennial Democrat candidate for president and consummate crackpot. So we’ve got the Far-Left carrying around the Nazi posters, the Far-Left making the Joker-Obama posters…and it’s the Right that gets the blame.

    And the media is AWOL.

  • Professional Presidential stalker heads for Martha’s Vineyard

    Say what you want about Cindy Sheehan, but she’s consistent. Byron York reports that she’s packed her little bandana on a stick and headed to Martha’s Vineyard to camp out at President Obama’s vacation site;

    Will Sheehan’s stay in Massachusetts attract as much attention as her time in Texas? Probably not. Even the left wing of the Democratic party seems unconcerned with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan these days, compared to their bitter opposition during Bush’s time in office.

    From another York column;

    I asked Sheehan about the fact that the press seems to have lost interest in her and her cause. “It’s strange to me that you mention it,” she said. “I haven’t stopped working. I’ve been protesting every time I can, and it’s not covered. But the one time I did get a lot of coverage was when I protested in front of George Bush’s house in Dallas in June. I don’t know what to make of it. Is the press having a honeymoon with Obama? I know the Left is.”

    I guess she’s just jealous that Obama gets more news coverage than she does. I guess like everything else these days, there’s an expiration date on “absolute moral authority“.

  • 60,000 resign from AARP

    I’ve hated AARP as long as I can remember because they’ve so blatantly opposed to everything that has stood in their way to soak seniors out of their savings. They’ve sold crappy insurance and crappy annuities under the guise of a special club for seniors. They were nothing more than an insurance brokerage.

    Despite their attempts to refute the president’s announcement that AARP supported his health care proposals last week, Americans knew from their past behavior, it wasn’t outside the realm of possibility. Now they’re voting with their feet, according to CBS News;

    CBS News has learned that up to 60,000 people have cancelled their AARP memberships since July 1, angered over the group’s position on health care.

    Elaine Guardiani has been with AARP for 14 years, and said, “I’m extremely disappointed in AARP.”

    Retired nurse Dale Anderson has 12 years with AARP and said, “I don’t wanna be connected with AARP.”

    Many are switching to the American Seniors Association, a group that calls itself the conservative alternative as CBS News Investigative Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports.

    It was inevitable. By spending a little bit of time doing the research, you can buy better insurance and annuities than AARP offers and probably save yourself some money in the bargain. They’ve tried to instill fear in their members when the Bush Social Security plan might have saved it for a few more years. They used fear to prevent younger Americans from being able to invest part of their Social Security contributions and have a shot at having real returns and a real income in their retirements.

    I hope AARP dies a quick yet painful death.

  • Elitist arrogance in the flesh

    Back in my home state, in my home congressional district, they’ve elected a Democrat to Congress for the first time in my memory. His name is Eric Massa. Here’s a screen shot from his website;
    massa-website

    See that line in his welcome letter? The one that says “…my #1 priority is serving you. This is your Congressional Office and your Congressional staff and your opinion on the critical issues facing Western New York matters.” Looks and sounds nice, doesn’t it? Well, his tone in person seems a little different.

    During a discussion with a constituent, he was quoted by a Rochester, NY TV station;

    MASSA: I will vote adamantly against the interests of my district if I actually think what I am doing is going to be helpful. I will vote against their opinion if I actually believe it will help them.

    Monday night, Massa spoke one-on-one with News 10NBC and residents in Honeoye Falls. We asked the Congressman if he would have made those statements in his own district.

    “Absolutely,” he replied. “I’m saying it here now. I stand by my comments. I mean what I say, and I say what I mean. Being independent sometimes means not being popular.”

    ‘If I THINK what I’m doing…”, “…if I actually BELIEVE…” I think “being independent” means being independent of your party, not independent of the people what brung ya.

    I hope they play that quote over and over during the next campaign.

  • US to underwrite off-shore drilling

    I’m sure you remember the fight last year over extending off-shore drilling rights to wean ourselves off of foreign oil. Well, the Obama Administration has decided that they’re going to make loans to a large company so that they can drill for oil off the coast – in Brazil. From the Wall Street Journal;

    The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

    The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a “preliminary commitment” letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.

    I’ve written for years that the key to our own economic well-being as well as our foreign policy independence is finding and processing our own energy resources – so what can the Obama Administration be thinking by helping to develop foreign sources? Millions of jobs would be created if we invested in the construction of refineries and oil fields, instead we continue to be slaves to foreign countries who hold our future in their hands, and we are forced to crawl to tinpot dictators.

    Yeah, I blame Republicans, too.

  • A privacy issue

    A reader emailed me about the following situation;

    Hello, I don’t know who else to ask. My 70 year old mother shops at the base commissary at Luke AFB in Arizona. They have posted the signs saying no more cigarettes and booze after Jan 1, 2010. She was REQUIRED to give the cashier her SOCIAL SECURITY number before they would let her purchase a carton of cigs today. When she asked why they told her that the “government” wants to keep track of who is buying cigarettes at the commissary. What an invasion of privacy! Who do I tell? My Dad is probably turning flips over at the Veterans’ Cemetery. I am glad he is not here to see what is happening to our beloved country. Mom said she is really worried about being on a “government black list” of smokers. With the recent email addresses being spammed out of the White House, I feel this is just one more invasion that needs to be brought to light. Any contacts or advice you may offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, I look forward to your reply.

    Well, I’m stymied. With the vast knowledge base we have among our readers, what would you tell this fellow reader?

  • Left puts foot down

    The Obama Administration let word out through Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius that the “government option” isn’t “essential” to their healthcare plan. Apparently, the rest of the left doesn’t agree. Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva, the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucas issued this statement;

    The public option is central to healthcare reform. Real reform, which lowers costs and ensures all Americans get the quality, affordable healthcare that they deserve, cannot be accomplished without a robust public option. As we have stated repeatedly for months now, a majority of the members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus will oppose any healthcare reform legislation that does not include a robust public option.

    They sound angry, don’t they? Pretty adamant about foisting a huge debt on taxpayers. Well, they’re not alone according to the Associated Press;

    “You really can’t do health reform” without allowing the government to compete with private insurers, said Howard Dean, a former Democratic Party chairman. “Let’s not say we’re doing health reform without a public option,” he added in a slap at the administration’s latest move.

    His remarks were echoed by lawmakers as well as AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, who said the option was the only way to force “real competition” on the insurance industry.

    The Hill writes that Congressional Democrats are warning that what they think is an attempted Senate compromise will cost Obama votes in the House.

    Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) asserted that rumored compromises on a Senate bill to win centrist votes would torpedo healthcare reform’s prospects with liberal members of the House.

    “If the president thinks he’s cutting a deal to get Senate votes, he’s probably losing House votes,” Weiner warned during an interview on CNBC this morning.

    The liberal New York Democrat said that healthcare reform would be essentially meaningless without having a public option made available for consumers.

    Me? I’m just buying popcorn. Democrats aren’t in the business of finding solutions, they only want issues. They did the same thing in 1993 and now we can sit back and watch them do it again.

    By the way, it’s the townhall protests that are doing this to them – so don’t stop that stuff.
