  • Richardson investigation dead

    I’m reading Michelle Malkin‘s Culture of Corruption on my way to work every morning. It’s a good way to prepare for my occupation in downtown DC by getting my blood pressure and my brow furrowed. It’s also why I’m not surprised by things like the pay-for-play case against New Mexico’s governor Bill Richardson dropped at the highest levels of the Justice Department – with barely a whisper from the media;

    The decision not to pursue indictments was made by top Justice Department officials, according to a person familiar with the investigation, who asked not to be identified because federal officials had not disclosed results of the probe.

    “It’s over. There’s nothing. It was killed in Washington,” the person told The Associated Press.

    Can you imagine the hue and cry had the Bush Administration’s Justice Department done the same thing in similar circumstances?

  • Drunken sot’s town hall turns into shouting match

    Jim Moran, carpetbagging Congressional drunken sot, presided over a raucous townhall last night with Howard “The Scream” Dean. I wish I’d gone – it would have been a dream come true. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against drunken sots, having spent some time as one myself. But, Moran has made a career of it. Link from the Examiner;

    Inside, the scene was just as raucous. Moran — fuming that his introduction of Dean was met with jeers — finally lost his temper with the crowd.

    “There are hundreds of people in this gymnasium who can’t hear [Dean] because of a handful of people,” Moran said. “These folks are not from the 8th District, they don’t really belong here, and I’m going to ask them to leave.”

    I don’t know where he thought the loud crowd came from, but from the videos I’ve seen, most of the people identified themselves as his constituents. I guess it’s just easier to ignore the fact that he’s unpopular in his district.

    Here’s a video from our local news Fox 5;

    Sweet. Moran gets to see what his own behavior looks like to others. Is anyone going to ask where the health care supporters are getting those slick signs they hold up when their opponents, who are supposedly backed by the insurance lobby have hand-lettered signs?

  • Democrats discuss cut and run again

    Yesterday, I wrote that Admiral Mullen’s statement athat the public support for the war in Afghanistan slipping was actually the White House putting out feelers for a chance to abandon Afghanistan to the Taliban. Last night, Greyhawk sent along a link to the latest proof that Democrats are walking back from the war;

    Sen. Russ Feingold, D-WI, called on President Obama to announce a timetable for withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. “This is a strategy that is not likely to succeed,” Sen. Feingold said about the troop buildup in Afghanistan.

    “After eight years, I am not convinced that pouring more and more troops into Afghanistan is a well thought out policy,” said Feingold. The liberal Democrat said he has expressed his reservations with President Obama, Admiral Mullen, and others inside the administration and he says he has “never been convinced they have a good answer.”

    “I think it is time we start discussing a flexible timetable so that people around the world can see when we are going to bring our troops out,” said Feingold. “Showing the people there and here that we have a sense about when it is time to leave is one of the best things we can do,” he added.

    Yeah, a flexible timeline for withdrawal from Iraq has worked so well, hasn’t it? I guess they can just dust off their old Iraq timeline speeches and change the place names.

    It’s all because they’re losing their base on their domestic agenda and the Democrats want to appease the intellectually vacant MoveOn crowd – with lives. al Qaeda lost Iraq in a humiliating defeat, and I guess the Obama Administration wants to give them a morale raising victory in Afghanistan. All so we can have socialized healthcare. Sweet.

  • Poll numbers vs. National Security

    So, I just think it’s funny (not ha-ha funny) that when Obama’s approval ratings take a precipitous drop, his “non-political” Justice department decides to name a prosecutor and begin investigations into the previous administration’s war against terrorists. What’s even funnier is the LA Times providing cover for the Obama Administration;

    At a time when healthcare and other signature initiatives are in trouble on Capitol Hill and President Obama’s approval ratings are slipping, he now faces the prospect of a long, distracting probe into policies of the Bush administration — policies Obama has already denounced.

    And the furor is likely to be all the sharper because it pits the most liberal elements of Obama’s base against the most unyielding elements of the Republican right.

    Time magazine wants the terrorists to know that help is on the way;

    If the release of the declassified 2004 CIA inspector general’s report fills people with disgust at the use of power drills and mock executions in secret prisons, the Obama Administration wants them to know that Americans need no longer be embarrassed by how their government treats detainees.

    Oh, and buried somewhere in the news, you might have accidentally heard that the Obama Administration used the cover of their announcement to take over interrogations and the investigation into the previous administration to release a Afghan Guantanamo alum back to Afghanistan. That news from DrewM at Ace of Spades. Apparently the guy had been arrested after tossing grenades at Allied troops – hardly a crime, I suppose, worthy of a lifetime of imprisonment.

    In Obama’s defense, though, he promised to put 22,000 more troops into Afghanistan. I don’t remember him saying on which side those troops would be fighting.

    But anyway, it looks like the Obama Administration is once again going to trade our national security for a few points in popularity polls. And the treacherous media, once again, firmly plant their knees on the ground to cover for him.

  • IVAW’s Lennox Yearwood, Jr.

    Lennox Yearwood, Jr. calls himself “Reverend” but I can’t find a church where he ministers. He calls himself a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve, but I can’t find a record. There are volumes about him on the internet, for example, on Wikipedia, that wax endlessly about his “activism”, but hardly mention his military service. When it suits him, he mentions it, but only as a shield. Here’s his profile at IVAW;

  • Shuffling the interrogation deck chairs

    There’s a new old policy in town for interrogation – the Associated Press calls it “a new, special terrorism-era interrogation unit to be supervised by the White House”.

    The Washington Post says the new unit will be named “High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group” or “HIG”.

    It sounds like something out of a Brad Thor novel. I’ve nicknamed it the “PPACP” unit – it stands for “Pretty Please, Aw C’mon, Please” because now that the White House has no one to blame except themselves, that’s the only acceptable interrogation technique from here on out.

    AP says interrogators will be limited to interrogation techniques in the Army Field Manual. Here are the actual prohibited techniques from FM 32-54;

    interogation-techniques

    In other words, the Obama Administration is taking over the responsibility of interrogations just to prevent waterboarding – all of that other stuff has always been frowned upon and discouraged. the only thing on that list that was used legally by the Bush Administration was waterboarding. And there have been more hippies waterboarded at their demonstrations than all of the terrorists have suffered since 9-11.

    Even pussywillow Matthis Chiroux survived his voluntary waterboarding.

    I think this is nothing more than a token to the peace crowd who are still angry that Obama stepped up troop levels in Afghanistan (which may change soon) and because he hasn’t shut Guantanamo yet.

    But, you can be sure of one thing, now that Barack Erkel is directly overseeing interrogation, the terrorists are shaking in their boots.

  • Obama/Biden responsible for hurricane deaths

    I was shocked when I read the Washington Times this morning and discovered that President Obama and Vice President Biden were responsible for at least two deaths along the Eastern Seaboard this weekend.

    A 7-year-old girl who was pulled from the sea near Acadia National Park later died, and a 54-year-old swimmer died after washing ashore unconscious Saturday in Florida, authorities said. The girl, her father and a 12-year-old girl were all plucked from the water by rescuers.

    It could have been much worse;

    The three were part of an early afternoon crowd of thousands who lined the national park’s rocky shoreline to watch the high surf and crashing waves, which were “absolutely the effects of Hurricane Bill” coupled with the effect of high tide, Park Ranger Sonya Berger said.

    At Acadia National Park, the waves swept over 20 people, Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam Sansoucie said. Mr. West said 11 people were taken to the hospital, mainly for broken bones after being slammed onto the rocks.

    Now, I’ll admit that the Times doesn’t say that Obama and Biden are at fault, but, they must be if we use the same standard that was used during the Bush Administration’s handling of Katrina;

    Despite repeated warnings, people gathered in Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, and along the boardwalk in downtown Halifax as swells grew steadily in strength and size.

    Warnings? That’s it? Didn’t we learn our lesson at Katrina that warnings aren’t adequate enough to convince stupid people to act in a responsible manner? And what did Obama do? Why he acted like nothing happened;

    In Massachusetts, President Obama and his family arrived in Martha’s Vineyard on Sunday afternoon for vacation after the storm had passed well to the east.

    How callous can one man be? People being slammed into rocks and drowning while they’re swimming in the churning seas – and the Obama family continues on with their vacation. After the storm passes. Doesn’t Obama care about middle class people?

    I’m not serious, of course, but you get my point.

  • Those shrinking Social Security checks

    The Associated Press is warning (or frightening) seniors that their Social Security checks will be smaller next year if President Obama doesn’t fix healthcare this year under the headline “Millions Face Shrinking Social Security Payments

    The trustees who oversee Social Security are projecting there won’t be a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for the next two years. That hasn’t happened since automatic increases were adopted in 1975.

    By law, Social Security benefits cannot go down. Nevertheless, monthly payments would drop for millions of people in the Medicare prescription drug program because the premiums, which often are deducted from Social Security payments, are scheduled to go up slightly.

    The headline should actually read, “government healthcare costs seniors more”, but that would probably upset the Obama Administration, wouldn’t it? Can’t have that.

    Despite the fact that Republicans (and now Senator Joe Lieberman) have been telling the Obama Administration to fix Medicare before he takes on a new single-payer health care system, the administration has forged ahead blindly and the elderly are the folks that are going to pay the price for Obama’s inattention.

    Is it any wonder that’s it’s the elderly who’ve been dominating the townhall debates? They saw this coming. Hell, Ray Charles could’ve seen it coming…from space.
