  • Getting it Right

    Retired captain given belated medal
Copley receives Distinguished Service Cross for actions during Vietnam

FORT BENNING, Ga., May 4, 2011 — Capt. Jay C. Copley fought for three hours after sustaining a bullet wound through his neck. The men of 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Regiment, assumed he was dead after they watched him be evacuated.

They presumed he was dead for 40 years – until they noticed his name wasn’t on the Vietnam Wall.

It took some help from congress, and the efforts of his fellow soldiers. From a separate article:

Copley, who received The Purple Heart, was recommended for the Distinguished Service Cross but never received it because of an administrative error and three-year statute of limitation. U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, who attended, worked with U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss to get language in a defense appropriations bill to allow the award.

    Welcome home Captain Copley!

  • Hmm… Someone thinks this is funny.

If you’ve ever worn The Dixie Cup or a blue chambray shirt, maybe.

Seems like it might be fuel for the basis of a inter-service joke fest

From one of the posters over at The Donovan.

Just click the link… I told BillT I’d post it.

  • You can’t make this stuff up

    Unless you are The Sniper?

I haven’t had much luck posting videos here so hit the link.

Someone bought him fancy video editing software… I figured he was gonna become a porn producer.

    This is pretty good though.

  • Navy Chaplains to Perform Same Sex Marriages in Navy Chapels

I wanted title this post WTF, but maybe it’s just me and my inner geezer who is confused?

One version of the story is here.

Anticipating the elimination of the military ban on homosexuality, the Office of the Chief of Navy Chaplains has decided that same-sex couples in the Navy will be able to get married in Navy chapels, and that Navy chaplains will be allowed to perform the ceremonies — if homosexual marriage is legal in the state where the unions are to be performed.

For various reasons this seems to be a proverbial ‘cart before horse’ scenario.

Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, is concerned that, in its haste to “hustle-in homosexuality,” the Navy may be violating federal law – the Defense of Marriage Act.“Offering up federal facilities and federal employees for same-sex marriage violates DOMA, which is still the law of the land and is bound to the duties of our military, including chaplains,” Steve Taylor, communications director for Akin, told CNSNews.com.

“The administration and various states may be operating as if DOMA doesn’t exist, but the Navy and Marine Corps and all the Armed Services are sworn to obey the law, which this new instruction violates,” he added.

And DADT is STILL official policy as far as I can tell anyway? The article goes on to say this particular Navy policy change is in preparation for the time if and or when, the overall policy is changed?

Yep, I’m confused… Geezer or not.

  • The rebellion continues

    Gird your loins…

The Scottish People say NO to Empire.

On May 5th, as the media hyped up an ‘alternative vote’ campaign that many people knew and cared little about, another, far more significant election was taking place.  In Scotland, a Parliament was being elected.

Being a genuine hillbilly (vs Jonn the carpetbagger) this story fascinates me.

It is a sign of the arrogance of the English media that the Scottish elections have been so greatly ignored up until now, because their impact will be strongly felt.  The SNP have promised to hold a referendum on independence, and have summarily won in a landslide.  So, where would Scottish independence leave the so-called “United Kingdom”; England, Wales and the six counties of Northern Ireland isn’t such a Great British Empire, is it?

The simple tone of the article is entertaining. In truth WE may be on a similar path here.  I can not help but to look at states rights issues cropping up around the corner.

Our civil war had multiple elements unresolved 150 years ago. This seems far simpler??

  • A Mothers Day Post – Boudica

Boudica was one of the earliest known ‘Mama Grizzly’ type mothers. Sarah Palin may own the current title, but Boudica was a warrior as well.

From Wikipedia – other sources agree:

Boudica’s husband Prasutagus, ruler of the Iceni tribe who had ruled as a nominally independent ally of Rome, left his kingdom jointly to his daughters and the Roman Emperor in his will. However, when he died, his will was ignored. The kingdom was annexed as if conquered, Boudica was flogged and her daughters raped, and Roman financiers called in their loans.

She didn’t win, but she took on the Imperial Roman super power in Britain. There’s a mythos surrounding her that is of no small note, but she stood up for herself and her youngins…  Any better definition of MOTHER?

  • A beautiful day in Maine for a Christening… BUT

Airdale Tim went to the Christening of the USS Michael Murphy DDG- 112 earlier today only to be greeted by:

How about a couple dozen of America’s stupid & clueless, the arrogant, narcissistic and terminally adolescent leftists who demand to be heard. Yup: protesters. Moonbats.

Tim equates THIS lot with The Phelps Gang and I can only agree.

The highlight was when they decried the “assassination” of Osama. Unbelievable. Lt Murphy’s father and friends were right there, along with current & former SEALs. They couldn’t help but hear the callous and insensitive spewage from these lowlife scum bags.

I could have quoted his whole post, but he has some pictures worth seeing… Check it out.

What Tim doesn’t mention is the general restraint that must have been present amongst the Naval personal.

  • My Personal Quote of the Day

    From Don Surber:

From Dr. Charles Krauthammer: “Evil does not die of natural causes.”

Evil can be cured with an injection of lead by the Navy SEALs.

Doesn’t quite fit the PC worldview, I’ll admit… but it cracked me up.
