  • Well, looks like the long awaited civil war in the “Iraq” Veterans Against the War is about to start!

Big doings in phony baloney land!

First, it was announced yesterday (?) that Kelly Dougherty is leaving her position as Executive Director of IVAW. I like Kelly, have from since when I met her and she was very nice. (Jonn liked her fishnet stockings as well as I recall.) Kelly seemed to be a mollifying factor to the more extreme elements, so her leaving is a good thing from our point of view. And they’re [spelling corrected for all 30 comlpaining] replacing her with a doozey!

Alex Bacon comes to us from the Fort Lewis chapter, with extensive experience with nonprofit management, finance, fundraising, and administration. As the former Administrative Organizer for Jobs With Justice, he spent the last three years helping organize strategic direct actions and campaigns in support of workers rights. He also comes with a strong commitment to GI organizing and resistance, as one of the two creators behind Coffee Strong, the GI Coffeehouse at Fort Lewis. Alex is also a long time GI Rights Counselor and leader within the GI Rights Network. In 2006 Alex was active in organizing support in the NW for IVAW members like Ehren Watada and Ricky Clousing who were resisting participation in the occupation of Iraq. Alex holds a BA in Labor Studies, and prior to getting involved in this work enlisted in the Coast Guard shortly after graduating high school where he served for two and a half years before being discharged in July of 2003 for going AWOL.

Awesome! A coast guard deserter who left prior to OIF! I mean, you just can’t write humor like that. Add in that he’s an activist with Watada who deserted his men and his responsibilities and has worked with Socialist organizations and this guy is money.

Secondly, our own frendemy Army Sergeant is making a stand, and it’s a good one.

  • Regarding the bidding on Jamie

OK, starting a new thread just to clarify where we are now.

Tankerbabe will identify a soldier for this date, to take place next Saturday. I can’t even figure out what all the bids are over there, but we are pooling our money and we will exceed all other bids, since SD has emailed and he was just being a pest to help us boost the bidding.

    I am in for $50.
Matt Burden of Blackfive added another $50.
Kate of Blatherings Blog is in for another $50.
War on Terror News is in for $25
Tankerbabe is in for an amount I can’t even tell what it is, but will assume is $50.

That puts us at $225 at least.
If you are adding to this, put a note in the comments and I will do updates.

Either way, bear in mind this all goes to a great cause. And I will add provocative photos which I can almost definitely not say will not not be photoshopped. (That’s your que Sniper.)

  • Is Matthis Chiroux really just a trained bird?

Everytime this mental midget grabs a microphone I half expect him to ask the crowd if Polly wants a cracker. But I will give this to him, he’s a friggin gold mine for bloggers looking for something to bloviate about.

In his latest bit of media whoring he gave an interview with Digital Journal, who are also apparently retarded because Matthis and the interviewer talk about his up coming “court-marshall.” Um. Are you kidding me? It’s “Court Martial” jackasses.

Anyway, Matthis is being defended by some poor bastard JAG named Thomas M. Roughneen and will also have “Marjerie Conn, president of the National Lawyers Guild on hand to offer constitutional testimony.” They might want to start by telling Matthis to stop citing to Article 6, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution when he clearly has NO EFFEN CLUE what he is talking about.

SD: Are there legal precedents for your actions?

Chiroux: Sure. The Nuremberg Trials come to mind. However, many have decided International Law should not apply, despite Art. 6 Para. 2 of the Constitution. I don’t think anyone’s outright won a war resistance case in the U.S., but there’s a first time for everything.

OK dipshit, let’s go through this one more time. And I will use small words, that you might understand it. The paragraph in question reads:

This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

Presumably you are trying to draw attention to the treaties portion thereof. Fine. The Nuremberg Trials were not a treaty. Further, the only thing (long lasting) to come out of the Nuremberg Trials was the International Criminal Court and the United States has never ratified anything with regard to it.

I for one CAN NOT FRIGGIN WAIT to hear what Constitutional basis you have for refusing to honor your contractual obligation. Unfortunately, we likely won’t get to find out since no one gives two shits what your activist Constitutional “expert” has to say.

    Matthis closes by assuring us:

That war resisters are not criminals. We are not cowards. We are the best, brightest, most dedicated and conscientious folks America has to offer. It’s time for the conscience of our nation to stir. We are so intelligent, yet we are serving ignorance, and there are few more pathetic sights to behold. Rise up my people rise up!

    Your people? Um. Ok.

  • OK boys, here’s your chance!!!

Let’s be honest, a lot of you guys NEED a date. And man-o-man-o-shevitz do I have one for you.

My internet wife is doing an auction to raise money for the charity Defenders of Freedom.

“Defenders of Freedom” is a 501 c 3 non profit organization with the purpose of raising money to support our troops who are currently deployed around the world. Because our troops are actively working to keep America safe, “Defenders of Freedom” believe passionately in showing them as much support as possible.

100% of the profits are used to:
Send “support boxes” to our men and women in uniform
Support wounded soldiers with encouragement and needed items, especially those with no support
Support the families of our wounded soldiers both physically and emotionally
    Support the USO

So, to raise money, Caro is auctioning off a date with Jamie, either to take place in Dallas, TX, or up here in DC for next weekend during the Milblog Conference. Trust me, Jamie is even hotter in person, and I guarantee you laugh as you watch her nimbly jump around trying to get in every single tourist picture with goofy faces etc.

So, apparently the bidding is at $140. Which is way out of my price range, but I am willing to toss $50 towards whoever covers the rest. Or, we could all pool our money and find a wounded warrior up at WRAMC and give him the date with Jamie. Either way, it is for a good cause.

Go to USO Girls Blog linked above to see more pictures, you can bid on the DC date here in the comments.

(P.S. If an attractive female wants the date, I will pay $100, and I am guessing the lowlifes at The Sniper might pitch in too.)

  • Quick update from the DC Tea Party

It is pouring out there. Like biblical flood proportions. And cold.

Given that, the number of folks there is outstanding. And people were flooding in (pun intended) even as I was returning to my office. I don’t know the numbers, but it was enough that we were pushed at least 100 meters from the stage. I was there with Lt Nixon, Superbowl6Romeo, Lilyea and Hooper from Age of Hooper. I saw Medea Benjamin there, but she bolted. For some inexplicable reason she was wearing a hat with pink cardboard affixed to it proclaiming her love for Fox. I assume she was referring to Vincente Fox, but who knows. I think she thought she could just blend in.

Per standard, there were your general assortment of other protestors there lamenting Gitmo. I honestly have no clue what they were doing, but had the standard orange jumpers on with black head things. All very odd.

Jonn will post the pics and stuff later, but wanted to let you know it is looking good down there.

  • The Claymore Conceptual Series

Just a bit of backstory on Claymore. He’s one of my best friends in the world, despite never having met the guy. We met up on a forum YEARS ago and have stayed in close contact to the point he sent me stuff in A-stan, and I send his kid legos on occasion. He never served in the military, but is about the most pro-military guy I’ve ever seen. And he knows more about guns than I ever will, so if you find an error in his writing, it is entirely intentional. Also, if you don’t get his references, odds are good it is from World of Warcraft.

Without further ado, I give you Claymore’s “no shit, there I was….”

Those guys are making fun of my experience, but they weren’t there, man. I remember it like it was yesterday…the stench of burnt chickenshit and burnt shit from chickens…stomping on spent 22mm shell casings, not knowing if all them zoomies from the DU would end up frying my nads and causing my kids to come out with two heads. They have the luxury of not knowing what I know…that while my existence may seem grotesque, they need me on this blog…they WANT me on this blog. I use words like “WTF”, “sum’bitch” and “do you smell something”…they would use them as a way to pick up drunk chicks that hang around outside of Planned Parenthood. I have neither the time nor the registered account to respond to their wholly inaccurate characterization of my actions. I’d rather they just chuckle and post more on how effin’ great I am. Either way, I don’t nothing about birthin’ no babies!!!

I remember it like it was yesterday, man. Our squad had formed up per the CO’s order and we were waiting on the battle to begin. Several of the guys were exchanging chow, a couple were chatting…the usual stuff before an impending furball. That’s when we starting getting moved around…mixed into other units. I was like “WTF, man!” but I had no sayso. Next thing I know, the horn goes off and we’re elbows and assholes headed toward the enemy. Bossman starts yelling orders…wants me and my crew to split off from the main column and defend some damn bunker, hopefully hold off the hordes of badguys in-bound while they take out the insurgent leaders. I’m like “fuck this shit! I ain’t dying for this!” and I hightail it into this small cave adjacent to our staging area. Things were quiet for a long time until I spotted this enemy soldier sneaking in…he was clearly looking for a place to hide too. I raised my hands, showing him my campfire and that I had no desire to hurt him, but he wasn’t having none of that. That dude cut loose on me like a whirlwind…I never saw what hit me. Next thing I know, I’m back at the starting area…our guys won the battle, I even got a medal, but I knew that I didn’t deserve none of the honor that they’d earned.

  • You know who we really need to worry about? You right-wing veteran maniacs!

UPDATE:  Looks like Ms. Malkin is none too pleased about the report either.

That, according to our own Department of Homeland Security.  You should start by reading this report from DHS, entitled  Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.”

The essential premise of this document is straight forward enough:

The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing  terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment.

Now, one of the specific groups it is worried about is “Disgruntled Military Veterans.”

DHS/I&A assesses that rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to exploit their skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat. These skills and knowledge have the potential to boost the capabilities of extremists—including lone wolves or small terrorist cells—to carry out violence. The willingness of a small percentage of military personnel to join extremist groups during the 1990s because they were disgruntled, disillusioned, or suffering from the psychological effects of war is being replicated today.
