Another Wedding Poser

Ok it has been awhile but I figured that this was worth the time. Granted with the poser bar being raised on a daily bases, I am not sure it will have the same “Shock and Awe” as some of our others phonies. But it should be enough to give a general WTF theme going on here. I present you newest Wedding Poser: Daron Soard.

Ok, lets see. Here he is wearing a Ranger Tab on BOTH shoulders. His Rack is completely out of order. In there I see a Afghanistan Campaign Medal, but no Combat Stripes on the right arm. Also according to his Facebook page he is a Scout and is Airborne certificated.

POWNETWORK have been following him since October of last year. But I considering the photos of his way out of regulation uniform would be worth writing about.

Update:Seems that he also has a criminal history too.

Isn’t he wearing the Antarctic service medal lol

  2. Elric

Well he was certainly a busy boy in 2006-7. Why does he look so fat on his FB page…must be the camera angle.

  3. David

Overseas service ribbon near the top…with no number? Nice try.

  4. streetsweeper

Its really going to suck to be him when any of the 75th(?)Rangers catch up with him…..*woofta*!

  5. Rangers? How about any of the 173rd?

Jeez……. I wonder what his new bride is going to think of his ability to keep his wedding vows, if he can’t even be honest about his service?

I mean, what else might he be lying about to her?

  6. CI

He lists a class number……someone at RTB should be able to make short work of this guy.

  7. @6
I work at RTB and there is no record of him in the student database. I would have to check the actual paper records to really confirm it, but I’ve got other work to do today.

  8. Bobo

AKO shows a Daron Soard (same e-mail as on his Facebook page) as a retired specialist with his organization listed as “2nd Ranger.” Of course, I can edit my AKO organization to show that I am lord emperor of the 1st Earth BN, so that doesn’t mean shit, either.

  9. Bobo

A good friend is commanding 1/91 CAV, 173rd ABCT. I’m sure that he’ll get a kick out of it.

  10. The dead-giveaway? The lack of ANY deployment pics in his FB photo page. I mean, everybody that has deployed has at least one, no?

  11. Oh, and where is his Blue Cord and Blue Disks?

  12. And an outstanding citizen as well:

Wish I were closer to Tuscola, IL. Anyone here that is near there?

  13. At the link above:

TUSCOLA – A Tuscola couple was sentenced Monday to probation after admitting that they burned a toddler’s buttocks.

Douglas County State’s Attorney Kevin Nolan said Brandi Soard, 24, and her husband, Daron Soard, 26, pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated battery, admitting that in June 2009 they caused great bodily harm to Brandi Soard’s then 3-year-old son by burning his buttocks.

The couple was to have been tried by a jury in Douglas County this week but chose to plead guilty instead.

Nolan said the matter came to the attention of authorities after the child’s natural father found blisters on his son and took him to the doctor. The injuries occurred while the baby was visiting Brandi Soard, Nolan said.

As part of the plea agreement, each of the Soards was sentenced to 30 months of probation, 150 days in jail, and a $500 fine. They were also ordered to get mental health evaluations, participate in counseling and cooperate with the Department of Children and Family Services regarding a younger child that they have in common. More serious charges of aggravated battery to a child were dismissed.

Brandi Soard also agreed to give up her parental rights to the child, Nolan said.

  14. PAO Sgt

    According to AKO People Search:

    Spc. Daron Soard
    Organization: 2nd Ranger
    Account Type: Army Retired

There is also his contact info for those who want it, however I’m unclear on whether posting that is allowable or not.

  15. What the heck is “Scout School”? You either go to OSUT (One Station Unit Training), or you go to AIT portion of you are a re-class. What a turd.

There’s a “Recon Course” or something to that nature, but even scout’s don’t go to that. It’s for non-scouts.

I went through “Scout School” in 2005, Ft. Knox as well.
G Trp, 6/15. Graduated “Scout School” that August. I made the list for SSG by Oct of 2010, right before ETS…..and this dude’s only a Corporal? Scouts with combat experience get promoted FAST.

  16. Hondo

Interesting. POWNetwork – usually extremely reliable – indicates they did a FOIA request on the individual and received a “No records found” from NPRC.

    http://www.pownetwork.org/phonies/phonies1270.htm

  17. Hondo

Gee, the Facebook page that’s linked above showing him to be Airborne “Certificated” seems now to be “temporarily unavailable.”

Think it’s one of those all-too-common “technical difficulties”?

    Nah, I didn’t either.

  18. AGEFMB

I should be ‘shocked and awed’, but I guess I am becoming a little desensitized to these types.

  19. CombatCAsh

Another day another Poser, this will never end until Stolen Valor is a crime that punishes with jailtime, and they will still lie. BURN.

  20. OrdSoldier

@17: Looks like he edited his FB page, it’s back up. It only lists U.S. Army and Jump/School now.

  21. Ben

Those “no records found” hits at NPRC are usually seen with former ARNG. Their records are held with the state MILPO in the retired records section. I’m not sure if the states eventually send copies to HRC or NPRC, but the easiest way to get them is find out which state he belonged to and FOIA them. That’s my hunch, fwiw.

  22. Sustainer

    SPC, Retired? Really? 20 years?

  23. A civilian here who tends to write about this stuff for my paper. This is just a question for me; not for publication so don’t worry. Why is it that everyone who is a faker, it seems, puts themselves in for duty in sub zero weather? To me, and I am not saying anyone should lie, but lying about being a Ranger, SEAL, hanging out with Killer Whales and Penguins, is pretty easy to check. Saying you were a clerk in some random unit, not as much. Again, Just wondering if any of you have thought about that as well? Thanks.

    Andy in Peoria

  24. Hondo

Andy Kravatz – It’s simple human nature. Everybody who’s making BS claims wants people to think they’re a “glamorous and glorious” hero. Ergo, most of those fakers claim to be from those parts of the military that have a well-deserved reputation for doing dangerous, hardcore, and exciting stuff: Rangers/SF/SEALs/Force Recon/82nd Airborne/fighter pilot, etc . . . .

In contrast, virtually nobody who’s making false claims wants people to think they were one of the troops doing essential support. That’s why you rarely hear of people falsely claiming to be a truck driver, intel analyst, maintenance guy/gal, IT specialist, etc . . . . Those tasks are just as essential (just try fighting without supplies, intel, working equipment, or communications), but just aren’t perceived as being as very “glamorous”.

    — break —

Sustainer: my guess would be a medical retirement, particularly if it’s the same guy (the name matches) as referenced in comments 12 and 13 above. (The link in comment 12 seems to be broken; the full link is
    http://www.news-gazette.com/news/courts-police-and-fire/2010-07-21/tuscola-couple-sentenced-aggravated-battery-over-childs-burns )

That’s the only way these days I know of to get retired with <20 years of service.

  25. JP76er

F.O. – I’m not far at all from Tuscola. What do you need? I would be glad to help.

  26. Old Tanker

    Sustainer,

You can be medically retired I supose

    Andy,

Fakers are never cooks, clerks or REMF’s….just not sexy enough!

  27. Ben

Sustainer: He was most likely fully medically retired or placed on the TDRL.

  28. Daniel

Woo hoo finally a 173rd faker. Though I do believe a 1st CAV patch would have added a little more color to the uniform.

  29. Steadfast&Loyal

its because they don’t know how much work Logistics does. You tread heads didn’t move without me and my troops making sure those beasts ran right.

I was an Ordnance Officer. Damn proud of it.

  30. Well, as someone who wanted to be in the service since I was a kid and coudln’t due to diabetes, i’d love to be a cook or a truck driver in the service. Besides, I did a cool story on a 88M who got a silver star for his actions on 9 April 2004. You don’t need to be a Ranger to be a stud. Not saying Rangers aren’t studs. Lord knows I don’t need that grief.

And I cover the courthouse for the Peoria Journal Star so if you all need help with court records from around here, just shoto me an email.

  31. Old Tanker

    Daniel,

I was 1st Team and it’s nice to see a poser NOT wearing my patch!!

    Steadfast,

No one ever pretends to be a tanker either!! Unless they were airborn tankers! I could swear they had a poser on here once that tried that….

  32. Hondo

Old Tanker: I’m pretty sure that Airborne Tankers did exist at one time. Sheridan unit at Bragg – I think it was 4/68 AR.

What the Mission Capable percentage for their Sheridans was after a drop, I won’t guess – except to say it was greater than zero. Maybe. (smile)

    — break —

Steadfast&Loyal: No argument from me. There’s an old saying: “Tactics may win battles but logistics wins wars”.

But your folks didn’t do your job without IT/comms. Or supporting security forces at base locations (unless you pulled your own perimeter security). Or intel support. Or medical support. Or (fill in the blank with any number of other military functions/specialties).

And none of those folks could have done their jobs without you and your fellow logisticians, either.

ALL the various military specialties and disciplines are important to the mission. They’re all interdependent. Which one is most important is the proverbial moving target – that depends on the particular situation at a given point in time. Anyone who argues otherwise (and isn’t joking) is IMO naive to the point of folly.

Some specialties do get a lot more press coverage than others, though.

  33. CI

@32 – That was 3/73 at Bragg with the Sheridan.

  34. Ah…medically retired..you could be right…. 90 % disabled from the herniated discs from carrying around all the phony shit on the Class As!

  35. Hondo

CI: I’ll take your word regarding the unit. The one source I found said 4/68 AR, but I didn’t research it extensively – and it wasn’t an official DoD source. I seem to remember such a unit being at Bragg in the mid/late 70s or early 80s, but I wasn’t in the 82nd and can’t remember the unit designation. It’s also been long enough since then that I won’t trust my memory about such things with which I wasn’t personally associated.

  36. @#25 JP76er
His phone info would be nice……. Just sayin’.

  37. charlie six

Hondo and CI (#s 32 and 33) are both correct. 4-68 Armor was re-designated as 3-73 AR, prior to the battalion’s eventual inactivation in 1997. Airborne 19Ds are still around in the RSTA Squadrons in each BCT in the 82nd (1-73, 3-73, 4-73 and 5-73 CAV), and in 1-91 CAV for the 173rd. 1-91 CAV is headquartered at Schweinfurt.

  38. JP76er

    F.O. Working on it.

  39. JP76er

I have it. How does Admin want me to give it out?

  40. jonp

IDK, since Soupy all others seem rather lame. He set the bar so high I’m not sure anyone can jump over it now.

  41. Jon

He claims to have been 19D and with the 173d, and to have lived in Italy. Most of the 19Ds with us are up in Schwienfurt, Germany with 1/91 Cav, we have some of our BSB Bn, 1-503 In and 2-503 In here in Vicenza. I don’t know of any 19Ds actually here…

  42. Hondo

Warhawk: any chance you’ll have time to verify/refute this “fine individual’s” Ranger claim this week?

  43. Hondo

Not sure I’m ready to buy that one just yet, Hellboy. CJD would indeed explain his behavior (it destroys the brain much like Alzheimer’s), but it also would have given him a defense on diminished capacity grounds against those child abuse charges. He plead guilty instead.

Frankly, I hope it’s not CJD and that he conned the filmmakers. I really wouldn’t wish CJD on any but a very select group of low-life bastards worldwide, and what the guy’s done here just doesn’t seem bad enough to put him in that group. Although IMO the child abuse charge comes pretty close.

  44. David

    “SPC, Retired? Really? 20 years?”

Could be medically retired. Unfortunately, I have seen that happen.

  45. Daniel

    @41

There are only 4 x 19Ds stationed at Vicenza in the 173rd. All of them are E6 and above and only one has a Ranger Tab.

  46. […] I wanted to talk about why people want to imitate people like 2nd Lt. Matt Blount. Imitators like Daron Soard. Just like 2nd Lt. Matt Blount both wear 173rd as a combat patch. Unlike Daron Soard 2nd Lt. Matt […]

  47. […] Daron “burned my 3 year olds butt” Soard […]

  48. Ryan

I don’t care if he was medically retired. you don’t put “retired at 20 yrs” if it was a medical retirement. you put how many years you actually served. I myself am being medically retired “20 yrs” (spinal cancer is a bitch) but if anybody asks me I have served for 3 years (25 days shy of my four year mark). YOU DIDN’T SERVE THE 20 YEARS, DON’T BE A DIRT BAG AND SAY YOU DID JUST CAUSE THAT’S WHAT IT SHOWS ON PAPERWORK.
