An admin announcement thing

In case you missed the weekend post about our battle against spam, I was averaging more than 50,000 spam comments/day, and some of you were getting caught up in the spam filter and I got tired of reading all of the spam comments to find yours so I changed the settings on the blog to require that you use an email address when you make your comment – and you have to have a previously approved comment to make it to the forum. I also closed all posts over ten days old to comments. I hated to do that, but I’ll probably turn it all off after the holidays when the spam lightens up a bit.

If you’re having trouble getting the blog to accept your email address or sign in name, like MCPO and Pinto Nag, just email me the email address you’re trying to use and the screen name you want and I’ll set up a profile for you – that seems to cure the problem. But, you’ll still have to get your first comment approved. I’m sorry that we have to do this, but I was overwhelmed Friday and Saturday and had to do something drastic.

I hope you all understand.

    You know what’s good in weather like this? Chilimac. Long or short pasta, some good, meaty chili, top with shredded cheese and onions, enjoy with cornbread and favorite adult beverage. And celery.

  2. TopGoz

    Spam… Spam… Nope, I got nothin’.

    A link to recipes from ‘A Taste of Guam’ cookbook, which includes spam hash. http://www.paulaq.com/atasteofguam.html

    Watch it! She has bouncy music in that video. And chamorros eat about 16 tins of Spam per person, per year.

    And from Hormel, the company that makes Spam, more recipes.

    SPAM Orthodics:

    Slice SPAM to thickness desired based on severity of foot problems.

    Slide SPAM orthodics into shoes.

    Live a foot pain free life.

    @51

    I’m lazy (and not a good cook); I usually just make a box of macaroni and cheese, and heat up a can of chili to stir in.

  6. Smitty

    Just for a first comment.

  7. Ex-PH2

    @55 Malclave, it’s on Steak n Shake’s indoor menu. But they make their own chili. I use canned chili, too.

    Flagwaver, just go here to find psul. http://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=38704#comment-1051885

    Since you guys are so pre-occupied with unicorns, you’ll probably like this series of westerns co-written by two guys who are idiots, and not afraid to show it. It’s titled ‘Unicorn Western’. http://www.amazon.com/Unicorn-Western-Full-Saga-Books-ebook/dp/B00CXAEC4A/?tag=lesgedi-20

    They’re nuts. And they don’t care who knows it.

    @2 – because there’s a sucker born every minute.

    I spend a chunk of my work time killing scam ads (we do online classified ads for papers). It’s utterly amazing how many people will want to buy a pure bred puppy (usually an English Bulldog or Yorkie) for $200 that has to be shipped from Africa.

    I have one scammer who places dozens of ads every night, even though I kill them within minutes. He’s done it for at least 5 years. Why? Because sometimes a couple of them are out there long enough to get some idiot to respond.

    Public service announcement: Don’t buy dogs online, adopt from shelters or rescues. They always have puppies because they rescue the mamas from puppy mills. They provide initial healthcare, discounts on pet insurance, vaccinate and microchip them.

    Cabinet doors are open. Facuets are set at minimum draw. Temp outside right now is a balmy 4F, wind chill -10F. I’m good.

    It’s warmer here than Antarctica, which set a new cold temp record of -135.8F in August 2010. That’s chilly.

  15. Ex-PH2

    That should be ‘faucets’.

  16. Bobo

    Funny, it looks like I’m still having problems.

  17. BCousins

    Working? Working? Are you working?

  18. OWB

    @ #37: I’ll take two of each. Hold the Spam, hold the baloney.

  19. OIF ’06-’07-’08

    Understand completely, and does this also mean that you will also eliminate all of the TOR user’s(Psul & Wittless One) along with the sock puppets that just have to come here and stir the Sh!t pot.

  20. MrBill

    Okay, test comment…

  21. I’m not sure I know what’s in Spam and I don’t think I want to find out….

  22. FatCircles0311

    I hope I’m not on Santa’s naughty list!

  23. Ohhh Man…
    #50 and #47 you should have told me there was a test on this stuff… I didn’t study for it and I am gonna get creamed like a can of spam on a deuce and a half intake manifold…

    Great, just what I needed, a test before Christmas…

    Dad gummit…

    And as for SPAM (the meat) I like it occassionally.
    But give me scrapple (fried) any day, every day. Ummmmmmm. . . .

  26. @30…remember this classic 2MC song?

    The khakis never appreciated that one.

    Temperature at 4:45AM was -5F, WC was -19F.

    Temperature at 8:20AM now 9F, WC is -11F, cloudy with a chance of spam hash with shredded cheese, baked in the oven.

  29. nucsnipe

    MCPO@ 33 Been there done that. Had to run the aux boiler on the Arkansas. None of the other nucs wanted to do it cause they were afraid of fuel leaks on the thing

  30. OldSoldier54

    Remember the Pork steak in Charlie Rats? I always thought that was Spam, Army style.

    Mmmmmm … nothing says joy like cold, salty spam … congealed fat and all. Enough hot sauce makes nearly anything edible … well, perhaps edible is too strong a term.

    Used to think, “Choke it down, son. Nothing but the best from Uncle Sugar!”

  31. OldSoldier54

    But then again, as I recall, when you’re hungry enough, dang near anything is ambrosia … πŸ™‚

  32. Ex-PH2

    Isn’t Spam what was in the ‘ham patty with beans’ in C-rats?

  33. Sparks

    As a side note to all the Spam, I just looked at the Member’s Gallery for the first time. Ex-PH2, you are as cute as a button! And MCPO NYC Ret. you look sharp in your uniform and as hard as boiler plate! I wasn’t in the Navy. Army then Air Force for me. But I had Drill Sergeants and Tops that looked like you. They could scare a troop straight with a glance. Thank you two and all of you here for the pictures and for serving.

    1. I want to know which of you trouble makers thought it would be funny if I got a load of Justin Beiber-related spam? Not cool, man.

  34. Sparks

    Not me Jonn. Wouldn’t do that to someone I didn’t like.

  35. Pinto Nag

    @84 It wasn’t me! That little twerp makes me gag.

  36. Ex-PH2

    It was the squirrel that’s been stealing birdfood from the birds on my front steps. It’s her vengeance on me. I have pictures.

    Biebs? Oh, I’m gonna gag right now.

  37. MCPO NYC USN Ret.

    @ 79 nucsnipe,

    Auxillary Boiler!

    I laugh at you and spit in your general direction!

    Saying you steamed boilers because you brought to life a cute little wee tiny AUX BLR is knda like saying, “I once almost had the best blow job of my life”.

    (sarc)

    # 83 Sparks … Results of unresolved childhood issues!

  39. parachutecutie

    Oh the inappropriate “first” comments I am tempted to write here just to see if you will “ok” me or not. *sigh* Knowing my luck you would and I would be the one embarrassed.

    Love ya buddy

  40. Sparks

    @89 LMAO. Know what you mean brother.

  41. And how much steam does a 1200-psi plant kick out in lbm/hr, Master Chief? I’ll see that and raise you one S6G plant.

  42. Twist

    @84,Jonn, My 11 year old daughter has Beiber fever. I’m trying to figure out where I went wrong as a parent.

  43. Daren

    Testing… Testing.

  44. Flagwaver

    @84,

    Jonn, that’s not funny. That, I believe, is actually a war crime under the Geneva Convention…

    1. Here’s a sample of the Bieber spam;

      9999 Justin Bieber can only be eighteen yrs outdated, but it is no magic formula that the pop sensation has already reached a level of successes which is surely incredible for anybody, a whole lot fewer a youngster. She’s a large troop supporter in addition to a great American.

      Well, they got the “She” part right.

  45. Pinto Nag

    {I am wondering how a man can construct a sentence that includes steam boilers and blow jobs in the same sentence and still be allowed to walk the street without a tracking device.]

  46. A Proud Infidel

    It’s in the mid-70’s again here today, will I EVER get to turn the A/C off? As for Spam, I just had a thought, how ’bout sliced, battered, and deep fried? Hey, down here, there are VERY few foods, entrees, sides, and desserts that they DON’T do that with!!

  47. Ex-PH2

    Sparks, you’re a sweetheart. I’d like to be that young and cute again.

    @92 NHSparky. I know! I know! 34.7826087/hr.

  48. Ex-PH2

    Proud, how about mince the Spam, mix it with shredded cheese and put it on bread, grill it, serve with barbecue kettle chips?

  49. Pinto Nag

    @99 Geeez, Jonn, did you have to post that? What’s next, pictures of roadkill?

  50. Sparks

    @100 NOW you’re talking Spam!
