Sunday morning feel good stories

From TEXARKANA, TX

One man is dead after an alleged early-morning robbery attempt in Texarkana Texas, according to the Texarkana Texas Police Department.

At 2:28 AM, TTPD officers were dispatched to a report of a robbery at a residence in the 800 block of Bowie Street. Dispatch advised officers the caller had indicated he shot someone who had been trying to rob him.

Upon their arrival, officers made contact with Joseph Walker, 32 of Texarkana, Texas, who lived at the residence.

Officers also located Rodney Richardson, 40, of Texarkana, Texas, lying on the ground near the porch of the home. Richardson was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

During the preliminary investigation, Walker told officers he parked his vehicle in the front yard and began walking to his house.

As he was walking, Walker said Richardson began walking toward him and asked for a ride.

Walker stated he didn’t know Richardson, so he told him he wouldn’t give him a ride and continued onto his front porch to enter his home. Walker advised Richardson then threatened to take his keys and other belongings.

Richardson started to grab something from his waistband, Walker claimed, adding he thought Richardson had a weapon on him, so he began to back down the stairs of the porch and away from him.

Walker advised Richardson continued walking toward him in an aggressive manner and at that point Richardson was shot.

Richardson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Walker was transported to the Bi-State Justice Center to the Criminal Investigation Division, where he was interviewed and later released. During the investigation of the scene, Officers were unable to locate a weapon on Richardson.

  1. I don’t think this was Richardson’s first rodeo in crime, but it certainly was his last. Nice shootin’ Tex!

  2. This case could turn out very badly for Walker. Good thing that Richardson won’t be available to testify.

Not many good things happen at 02:28, too bad they were both not doing rack-ops.

    1. Daughter lived there and center line on the highway east and west through town separates the 2 states, here center line of my street separates 2 voting districts of city.

  3. Aah, the old ‘hand to the waistband’ ploy. Works well if there is actually a weapon there. Same as ‘putting one’s hand in his pocket’ ploy. Better be able to pull a weapon out of there. Here’s a novel idea to save your life. Don’t play any ploy. Just leave. There is no shame in living to see another sunrise. Acting as a tough guy but unable to back it up doesn’t work well.
