NBC4 New York City took the opportunity that Esteban Santiago, a Puerto Rico National Guardsman, shot people in Ft Lauderdale last week to highlight 11 incidents of veterans and eleven “high profile mass shootings” over the last twenty-five years. Yes, eleven incidents in twenty-five years deserves scrutiny.
Some of the veterans listed in the slide show were deployed to war, but most weren’t. The ones who did deploy weren’t in military occupational specialties that would have trained them in their nefarious endeavors.
They include Nidal Hasan without mentioning that he was actually a terrorist on a jihad at Fort Hood, Texas on November 5, 2009. In fact I wonder if they have a slide show for folks that singles out mass shooters of the jihadist variety.
The list includes Micah Johnson, who even the New York Times admits “had an affinity for Black Power organizations”.
Wade Michael Page was dishonorably discharged for being a racist more than ten years before his crime, but he makes the list for shooting Sikhs at their temple. Aaron Alexis, the Navy Yard shooter is on the list, but he had his military career cut short because of his mental problems, again several years before he committed his act.
Regardless, eleven incidents in twenty-five years is not an epidemic – nothing more than click-bait for low-information voters.
But, unfortunately, many of those from the state of my birth, mostly those from “Da City”, will just gobble this shit up.
Just for shits and grins…I’d like to see the numbers of Active Duty and Veteran members who STOPPED shooting situations.

If these hacks were truly interested in finding the elusive common denominator for these crazed killings, they are more likely to find one in the type of car the nuts drove or whether they attended private or public school. The exception, of course, is the glaring common denominator for the terrorist types. It’s their religion, but that’s too sensitive to point out.
Seems to me that the New Yawkies are trying to paint all veterans with the same brush, because they want the 1960s back, or something.
I guess they didn’t do a survey of how many LEOs who don’t do stupid things are ex-military, too. That would spoil their disinformation racket no end.
If you are looking for a way to slam a population group, you do cherry-picking like this. Maybe someone should look into the useless lives of the people at NBC New Yawk who came up with this crap.
Given New York’s prior, and Chicago’s current, crime rates, you could probably make a pretty good case that civilians are the problem. 11 incidents over 25 years among the vet population… probably get higher numbers from Chicago last weekend.
Think about what an infinitesimally small percentage eleven perpetrators constitute out of the total veteran population of tens of millions over a period of 25 years. Those assholes went searching for the proverbial needle in the haystack and happened to find it. I hope the vets out here ram that sucker right through their journalistic thumb.

Why not do the same thing with African Americans or Latinos involved in street gangs? See, that would throw off their results and blow a massive hole in their conclusions. It would also make them into racists.

An article in yesterday’s Mpls. Star and Sickle said the shooter was a “private” and “decorated”. I doubt he was a private, unless he got busted before discharge.
I guess the three ribbons and one unit citation I wore upon my discharge made me “decorated”.

According to a Breitbart article he was in Guard units (first Puerto Rico, then Alaska) 9 years before getting discharged as a PFC. One year in Iraq in 2010. Army Public Affairs lists an ARCOM, GCM, NDSM, IRaq service medal, GWOT, and several less ‘prestigious’ awards than the distinguished set already listed.
