Chattanooga victims awarded Purple Hearts

MustangCryppie sends us a link from the Military Times which reports that the families of the Marines lost in the terrorist shooting last year in Chattanooga, Tennessee received Purple Heart Medals;

The families of Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, Sgt. Carson Holmquist and Lance Cpl. Squire “Skip” Wells received the medals from Lt. Gen. Rex McMillian, head of Marine Corps Forces Reserve, during a ceremony at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga.

[…]

Purple Heart medals were presented in separate ceremonies earlier this year to the family of Navy Petty Officer Randall Smith, the sailor also killed in the attack, as well as Sgt. DeMonte Cheeley, a Marine recruiter wounded in the first shooting.

The Marines and sailor became eligible for the Purple Heart after an investigation by the FBI and the Navy Criminal Investigative Service concluded that Abdulazeez’s attack was inspired by a foreign terrorist group.

So I guess the government is willing to admit that war followed the troops home after the Fort Hood, Texas and Little Rock, Arkansas shootings by terrorists on US soil.

Yeh and about damned time! Took the morons that long to figure out it was a plot by our enemy the freaking mooslimes?

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Hmmm, so does this mean that admitting a few hundred thousand “refugees” is now a bad idea or is it still a good idea?

I mean if the government can decide that this was a terrorist act and as Jonn said the war followed them to our own shores wouldn’t it be a good idea to maybe put a hold on allowing a few hundred thousand potential terrorists free access to ports of entry and economically setting those potential terrorists up in a variety of communities across the nation?

Or am I missing something in this?

Geez, I sure wish somedays I was as smart as our current secretary of state so I could comprehend all the subtle differences at play here.

Hondo

VOV: I presume the “is it still a good idea” was a rhetorical above. You and I both know damn well that admitting marginally-screened or unscreened “refugees” was NEVER a good idea.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Indeed very rhetorical….politically correct maybe, stupid as fuck certainly…

I say leave those rat bastards in their own country to sort out their own shit.

FatCircles0311

Took them long enough. I guess it’s a start.

In spite of believing all those wounded in the Chattanooga shooting deserve appropriate recognition, somehow a purple heart doesn’t register. I mean WTH, are they all going to talk about the war they fought in Chattanooga? Desks and fox holes are a bit different. Now if B O wants to finally man up and admit the fanatics who created the hell at all the other shootings on military bases were extremists acting on behalf of Allah…that might make a few of us feel better. It just appears a P H is going a bit far for whatever reason.
If these awards represent courage in battle, then please somebody admit our brothers are put into harm’s way without weapons.

IDC SARC

“I mean WTH, are they all going to talk about the war they fought in Chattanooga?”

I understand your point, but the purple heart just signifies being wounded by enemy action. The PH has been awarded to other service members for similar situations, such as the USO bombing in Italy and the murder of Robert Stetham to name a couple. In principle isn’t it the same?

IDC SARC

Stethem btw was also awarded a bronze star and posthumously promoted.

Yef

Courage in battle?
Please. For years the Army been giving purple hearts to Fobbits that never done a mission outside the wire for indirect fire.
So that cook that got cut by a flying fork when a mortar round hit the roof of the DFAC? Purple heart.

Then it was PH for TBI, then for PTSD, and now who knows.

There is a reason why the PH goes after the BSM.

Hondo

Prior to mid-1985, the Purple Heart was worn after ALL personal decorations, with the service medals. It was moved in precedence order to its current place following the BSM in 1985. Prior to then, it ranked in precedence immediately above the GCM.

twist

Do they really give the PH for PTSD now? I know they were thinking about it a while back. IMHO people who get TBI deserve the PH. Just because they aren’t bleeding doesn’t mean they aren’t injured.

FatCircles0311

No different than most War On Terror purple hearts.

Some shithead shows up out to nowhere and shot me.

Eden

‘Bout freakin’ time! Rest in peace, brothers!

Wonder if this was done without King 4 Putt’s knowledge?
