Tuesday feel good story

Preston sends us a link to the story for today in which an elderly Bedford, Iowa couple turned around the life of a recent prison escapee;

Authorities said Rodney Long forced his way into the couple’s home at 2609 Highland Avenue about 10:15 p.m. and held them for the next four hours.

The couple said Long was armed with a semi automatic handgun. He had also taken their phones.

The couple, ages 71 and 66, decided to defend themselves, authorities said. They were not seriously hurt in the incident.

About 2 a.m., the couple called 911 to report the shooting. An Iowa State trooper was on the road nearby and responded immediately to the home.

The trooper found Long dead face down on the kitchen floor of the couple’s home.

Apparently, Mr. Long had shot a sheriff’s deputy earlier and the deputy is recovering from his confrontation with Long. So high-fives all around.

Cobalt Blue sends a better link to the same story.

Wendy (who says she lives near there and has been carrying a Glock around her house the last few days) sends us a video report;

  1. The only regrettable thing in the is story is the mess they’re going to have to clean up, once the forensic part of the investigation is over.

  2. I feel sorry for the fact that even the old folks can’t be left in peace by these shitbags. I hope they don’t worry too much about killing him.

  3. No real details on the actual shooting, but that’s ok.
    So, good shootin’, Elderly Couple! No range time needed here.

    And what was wrong with the perp? He had one year left on his sentence before being “honorably” released. I could do that much time twiddling my thumbs. But that’s what makes a perp in the first place — no impulse control.

  4. @4 – Another report I read said that after 4 hours, he started roaming around the house. Authorities think he was gathering stuff to further his escape.

    The elderly couple, a retired prison guard and his wife, decided to get out their shotgun. The former prison guard shot him in the kitchen while his wife called 911.

  5. Good job, folks. Yet another one that the taxpayers don’t have to support any longer.
