Chief Tango sends us a link to the story about Clyde Thomas, who was turning his life around, but found himself discharging a weapon in someone else’s home;
Police say Thomas broke a glass door. They say the homeowner and Clyde Thomas’ wife and daughter were in the home at the time.
“Once inside, he had fired several shots inside the residence,” said Tony Watts with Kentucky State Police.
Then, officials say, the homeowner returned fire and hit Thomas several times. They say Thomas was the only person injured.
Police say there are few options in dealing with a home break-in.
“If someone is trying to gain forcible entry into your residence, make sure you call 9-1-1 as soon as possible, and you do have the right to protect yourself,” Watts said.
Some folks who used to live in the neighborhood say they are all too familiar with these precautions.
Well, the folks in Pippa Passes, Kentucky are marginally safer tonight while Clyde turns his life aroound from a hospital bed.

I think they have their order of operations kinda out of whack: call 911 then return fire? I don’t know, I think if someone is shooting at me I think I might return fire then call 911, but what do I know.
The cop said you should call 911 as soon as ‘Possible’. I think that I would be so shaken that I would not be able to dial a phone until I knew the Goblin had bled out.
I agree with Just Plain Jason. Shoot first, call later.
911? Some areas of the country, you’ll be lucky to get a timely response (if any at all) for burglaries/home invasions…Chicago, Stockton/Oakland CA, parts of Oregon come to mind from recent events. Go 1911 first than 911.
I would love to turn an armed intruders brain to mush. Although the ringing in the ears from my sks would be painful it would be worth it.
I would feel sorry for Thomas’ wife and daughter, but the homeowner needs some range time. The perp lives, wounded, recovering in a hospital bed?? Taxpayer money wasted. Tsk, tsk. He should be on a slab instead.
Too bad it wasn’t two to the center mass and one in the melon. What kind of idiot perp announces his entry with gunfire? He’s going to have fun in lockup once he gets out of the hospital. To bad WE have to pay for it all. I agree with 6…more range time.
For anyone who doesn’t know – “Pippa Passes” is a long poem by Robert Browning which includes this famous passage:
The year’s at the spring
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hill-side’s dew-pearled
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in his Heaven –
All’s right with the world!
…great name for a town with such happy endings. (Wikipedia tells me the town was named after the poem, and this part of it in particular; see how prescient they were?)
The news report shared: “Police say Clyde Thomas is being treated at UK Medical Center in Lexington… his injuries are most likely not life threatening.”
“Most likely not life threatening” caught my eye. A little more time on the range would cure that.
