As to the stock of GM, one would do a whole lot better to buy Wal-Mart, last I looked at the store the wife works at, it was at about $64/share.
And, as you said, their “sales” are mostly manufacturer to dealer, MOF that’s the norm now, for GM. Hell, to move cars around here, GM is offering nothing down, no security deposit, nothing up front leases to move cars, plus anywhere from $5K to $10K in “discounts” for sales.
