Yeah, I think my girls were in love with this Mark Wahlberg doofus in the 90s. I’m sure it was because of his towering intellect;
In the February issue of Men’s Journal, Marky Mark says that he would could have stopped the 9/11 attacks from happening had he been onboard one of the planes.
He told the magazine (read aloud in your best Boston accent):
“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” Wahlberg said. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”
Of course, that’s because he would have had the benefit of foresight, and because he’s just so bad ass. I mean he’s a star, right? They’re all better than us and see things the way we can’t. Maybe next he’ll tell us how he would have taken down bin Laden with his bare hands in the first ten minutes after his plane landed on 9-11.
Thanks to Tman for the link.

That’s the problem when (most) actors and entertainers are allowed to run loose with their Godzilla egos. and hummingbird intellects.
With that kind of bravado, he should head down to the nearest recruiting office. Clearly we need men of his caliber….
I saw this earlier today, but I thought it was an Onion article……
Hey, Wahlberg played a Gunnery Sergeant, sniper and all around bad ass in a movie once.
Karma listens when idiots make statements like that.
I just hope there’s someone with a camera around to capture the moment when reality stomps on him.
After applying makeup he would have his fight scene stand-in double deal with it…
Fucking idiot. Before 9/11 no one had ever hijjacked a plane and used it as a weapon. That’s why no one did anything on the first three planes, they thought they would spend the next few days on a runway somewhere, not crash into buildings. I’m pretty sure if they had known the hijackers purpose there would have been three more Flight 93’s.
I did love him in shooter, and have always liked him. This was of course about as big an eff up as you can do, not mitigated even slightly by his subsequent apology.
TSO…Sniper did for grunts and Marines what Crimson Tide did for submariners. IOW, even I called bullshit on that movie although it was nice to see Danny Glover take one in the chest.
that was a pretty stupid thing to say and perhaps out of context but I did appreciate his thoughts on turning his life around, religion, and family during a recent interview with Piers Morgan. Kinda makes me think a little more highly of him for a Hell A inhabitant.
I think he has figured out that what he said was STUPID:

Sounds like he pulled a Maaatt Damon.
Hey didn’t you know Marky Mark was also a Special Airborne Ranger Forces?
I drove over the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis exactly 23 hours, 59 minutes and 31 seconds before it collapsed in 2007.
Clearly, because I have dreamed about it, I would have saved everyone from dying and possibly even prevented the collapse itself.
Then you had the timer for the device, Mr. Thul…..
Another Hollywood pretty boy who believes too many of his own press clippings! I lost ALL respect for ‘entertainers’ when Comrades baldwin, penn, serandono,, etc claimed they would move to france or Canada if Present Bush was elected. Hmmm, they all stayed here. He’s as delusional as the rest.
I did like the movie “Shooter”…maybe that’s what he’s confused about….
TSO…Sniper did for grunts and Marines what Crimson Tide did for submariners. IOW, even I called bullshit on that movie although it was nice to see Danny Glover take one in the chest.
Wahlberg’s best movie scene was when he shot douchebag Matt Damon in the head at the end of The Departed.
Marky Mark was a cheap street thug and is a convicted felon. He makes a fortune pretending to be what I am…a cop and a combat soldier. I am glad he wasn’t on that plane, but for him to suggest that he would have slew the terrorists and landed the plane is both pathetic and laughable.
No comment on his “acting ability.”
Slew….slayed? Slain?
Hollywood is pure fantasy…simply he is caught up in it.
@18: thanks jack ass I haven’t seen that movie 😛
Sparky- read the book (Point of Impact) by Stephen Hunter. They changed some stuff obviously, in PoI the guy was a sniper from Viet Nam, etc, but man is it an awesome book.
I did read the book about 15 years ago. Again, as with all things it seems, Hollywood took a perfectly good book and totally fucked it up.
I particularly liked the opening sequence in the book where he hunts the deer, and the FBI agent is a much more developed character.
As stupid as it was I’ll just say at least it was a different spin on what we normally hear from the Hollywood types. I’m just thankful he didn’t say he would have sat down and talked to the hijackers and convinced them the error of their ways. At least he said he would actually try to kick their ass instead of trying to understand how we have wronged them in oh so many ways and how we really have ourselves to blame.
Stupid bravado? Sure, but that is at least marginal better than Stupid rhetoric we usually hear from the Film Actors Guild. 😉
see…this is what happens when you start believing your own press releases
@TSO Most of Stephen Hunters books are AWESOME,Marky Mark Not So Much.
