We might ask ourselves how we would be reacting if Iraqi commandos landed at George W. Bush’s compound, assassinated him, and dumped his body in the Atlantic. Uncontroversially, his crimes vastly exceed bin Laden’s, and he is not a “suspect” but uncontroversially the “decider” who gave the orders to commit the “supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole” (quoting the Nuremberg Tribunal) for which Nazi criminals were hanged: the hundreds of thousands of deaths, millions of refugees, destruction of much of the country, the bitter sectarian conflict that has now spread to the rest of the region.
He writes like he’s at least brain dead. George W. Bush led a nation, bin Laden led a band of blood-thirsty thugs who cut off the heads of non-combatants for entertainment. So, I guess we’re (Americans) all Nazis, because not only did we elect George Bush once, we re-elected him after the wars were in full swing.
Same with the name, Operation Geronimo. The imperial mentality is so profound, throughout western society, that no one can perceive that they are glorifying bin Laden by identifying him with courageous resistance against genocidal invaders. It’s like naming our murder weapons after victims of our crimes: Apache, Tomahawk… It’s as if the Luftwaffe were to call its fighter planes “Jew” and “Gypsy.”

Ok, I’ll bite. I’m pretty sure the Apache was named as such due to the ferocity of the warriors…. and a Tomahawk was the name of a weapon from jump, so that doesn’t even make any sense.
I gotta tell you, I imagine you were being facetious, but I really thought Chomsky was dead. Jeez.
Their hatred for GW Bush knows no bounds, thank God that Bush wasn’t the president during WWII or they would have sided with the Nazis.

Since this operation happened under Obama and he has kept all of Pres. Bush’s policies intact why didn’t chomskyite use Obama’s name in the piece? Because he couldn’t really care less about the policies, he just hates Bush.

Clearly, he has no idea how code names are chosen. Most are just pulled out of the air, or they just use what pops into their mind at the time. Symbolism is not often considered. If so I’d ask where the code name for a P-3 assigned to us in the Med in ’73 got the name “Punchy Trials.” We thought they were scraping the bottom of the barrel on that one.
Its easy to think Chumpsky is dead. he’s practically interchangeable with that asshole Howard Zinn, who really IS dead. Made the same mistake myself.
When I first read the codename “Geronimo” I thought it a very apt description.
Henry Ware Lawton was awared the MOH for capturing Geronimo. After many, many years of crossing borders to escape pursuit, killing soldiers of America and Mexico, and being the spiritual/moral leader of the Chiricahua Apache.
They could have given the op the codename of Pancho Villa, too. Except Villa was never caught.
