Spotlight on Better Uniforms for Female GIs
WASHINGTON — Imagine U.S. combat troops and aviators wearing body armor that fits so poorly that it’s tough to position a weapon to shoot, combat uniforms with knee pads that hit around mid-shin and flight suits that make it nearly impossible to urinate while in flight.
For many female troops, it’s just another day on the battlefield as they wear clothing and protective gear designed primarily for men. Each of these issues is now getting some attention from the military.
Why is this still an issue? Did someone in the Pentagon just now discover the difference?
I know about bureaucratic inertia, but this is just silly.

Heh. The only problem I ever had with the uniform as it was (BDU) was that I found it amazing how great some chicks looked in such drab items. Maybe they should have been models!
Just another brick in the wall. Expect Spike TV and Bravo to come with competing reality shows: “Teh Hawtness with Howitzers” versus “Combat Couture.” RuPaul will host.
Dave–I’ll expect that right about the time Top Chef does a cookoff on military food and one of them tries to do a twist on SOS, baboon’s ass, cat turds, horsecock sandwiches, or elephant scabs.
“A better fitting uniform “raises motivation and the performance level because a person feels more professional,” Robinson said.” Hu? That’s funny, my motivation and performance level was raised when some jackhole was aiming an RPG at me. I didn’t give a crap what my uniform looked like.
If we in the Army would actually start reserving the Army Combat Uniform to combat and not the office, a good percentage of the complaints would go away.
Sparky,
Great, now my keyboard is all sticky with pop!!!
A rather well-endowed MP I attended PLDC with told me she didn’t care for the ACU. We were talking one day and she told me the BDU better complemented her assets. I glanced down and told her I completely agreed. We need a BDU-style uniform for women like her…

I agree. Why do 4 star generals, in garrison/pentagon/DC, etc; wear these. In my Army day, (’60-’64), they wore class “A” uniforms to show respect for the branch/military. Hell, when I was in it was solid green fatigues, and we weren’t allowed to wear them off post. “Shackrats” could wear them in their POV, but weren’t even supposed to stop for cigs or a six-pack in ‘teages.
The times they’ve changed.
LOL, Master Chef on Fox, and Throw Down with Bobby Flay on the Food Network, have both done numerous military pieces in the last 5 years.
My momma always told me the difference between boys and girls was that girls have an inny and boys have an outy. I’ve been confused cuz I have seen girls with outies and and boys with innies…………oh, we’re not talking about belly buttons??
I kind of like the frumpy look of ACUs on females. If we’re going to have a co-ed army, I think it’s best that their figure not be apparent all the time.
